@ukrainman20: That's a very interesting theory - for which you do not have even a shred of evidence. There is no evidence that such a thing is happening. But there is much historical and archeological evidence that the Bible is true. And you say that the universe "creates" things? But there is nothing that anyone has found (including scientists) that shows that the elements of the universe (energy and matter) have any such creative power or ability. But God does.
Did you watch the video? The very word "privileged" refers to "special" or "out of the ordinary". The scientists in the video do a compelling job of making the case that the Earth is extremely unique rather than extremely common. And it points to intelligent creation.
And I would direct you to Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot." You can look it up on youtube, it really puts thing sinto context in a beautiful and stirring way. For such an important planet as you would claim ours to be, it seems awfully small and insignificant...
And I would direct you once again to PRIVILEGED PLANET. The scientists in this video reference Sagan's pale blue dot concept and give evidence against it.
Are you referring to the film PRIVILEGED PLANET? If so, I think the film does a good job of explaining how "special" points to intelligent design and flies in the face of modern atheistic evolutionary theory (as expressed by the words of Carl Sagan in the film). I have no more to say that the film didn't say and if you actually watched the film, I don't understand why you are confused about this. You may disagree with it, but the film is actually very clear about what it is saying.
I find it hilarious that christians think that if they prove evolution wrong...OR prove the big bang theory wrong that it means their monotheistic beliefs are correct!! How many beliefs are there in human culture? Why should anyone believe your book over someone else's book? If I found an ancient book in my attic about how the planet was farted out of a giant space elephant I would have as much evidence to prove that correct as christians have to prove themselves correct. We all might be wrong.
What you have just said shows how little you know about all the historical, archeological, and textual evidence that backs up the narrative found in the Bible. There is no book that compares to it. No book that comes close - the Quran, the Bhagavad Gita, nothing.
And concerning evolution and the big bang - there are many scientists who have been able to see the flaws in atheistic scientific theories and have looked past these flawed theories and found the living God.
Although I am not a scientist, I am intelligent. I scored in the top 1% in math and science in my college entrance tests. But along with the intellect, I have powerful, spiritual experiences with the God of the Bible that have convinced me that He is real, even though I do not have all the answers that my intellect seeks.
Try learning something about molecular biology and math.
The probability a single protein forming in the correct sequential order is 1 to the 72nd power. They are a 150 amino acids long.
And 20 to the 150th power of possible ways of arranging the amino acids. The probability of generating one single shore protein through random mutation is 1/70 power. That's 100, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion.
It is amazing in a way that cannot be explained by natural forces. Mere matter and energy have not shown anything close to any such creative ability. Only something immensely creative, intelligent and powerful could have made such things. I am sorry that you cling so tenaciously to your anti-God stance, even though acknowledging that the universe is amazing beyond natural explanation. Perhaps you are more biased against the supernatural than you know or are willing to admit.
WelI...I mentioned the universe having been created by something that is creative, intelligent and powerful and which transcends the limits and laws of time and space. That is what we typically call God. It is funny that you may be willing to admit that such a "thing" exists, but you do not want to call it God.
You could call it "God". In fact, Einstein and Hawkins use the term in that way. But to call it a god by your definition, I would need a reason to do so. So far we don't have any evidence or even a non-biased observation to suggest that somewhere, hiding in the unknown, is an intelligent being that caused the big bang. To assume it as truth on this basis, is irrational. To assume it's a very specific type of god with attributes given to it by a bronze age story book, is even more so.
Cool. At this point, I just want you to at least be willing to admit that there may be an intelligent design behind the cosmos.
Concerning the Bible itself, I admit that it is an extremely complex and, at times, troubling book. I believe that God meant it to be that way, and that He meant it to be specifically a challenge to those who are seeking after God in a merely intellectual manner. He has chosen to hide things from the merely intellectual and to reveal them to the spiritually hungry.
Big bang and evolution have nothing to do with each other. Evolution explains the complexity of life. The Big Bang explains the origin of the universe itself. Funny how christians equate both to being the same thing. Newsflash: the Earth is NOT the center of the universe. The Universe is far older than the Earth.
I think it perhaps you that is not looking at the big picture. Essentially, both the existence of the universe, and the existence of the Earth and the species that live there are explained (by atheistic science) as energy plus matter plus time plus chance = reality. That is what we mean when we (as Christians) lump the big bang and evolution on the Earth together. And that is what intelligent design theory seeks to refute.
And concerning the Earth's place in the cosmos, more and more scientists are rejecting the extension of the Copernican Theory (which assumes that there are many Earth-like planets in the universe) and are realizing that all the factors that are necessary to support advanced, complex life make the Earth actually very special: w w w ( . ) viddler (.) com/explore/HeadOfDays/videos/197/
Infact, there are some scientists that now belive its more likly that other life exists. True its very hard to get the right conditions for life to start, however the universe is very big.
According to the scientists who spoke in the video THE PRIVILEGED PLANET (see above link), the necessary ingredients needed to support complex life far outweigh the size and potential of the universe. This video was shown at the Smithsonian.
There are a lot that believe this actually. With trillions of stars that resemble our own, it seems unfathomably odd that there wouldn't be life somewhere else in the universe. Maybe even intelligent life.
That's why I mentioned the film PRIVILEGED PLANET, which was shown at the Smithsonian a couple years ago. Have you seen it?
w w w ( . ) viddler (.) com/explore/HeadOfDays/videos/197/
This film was created by scientists who have done the math and found that the necessary factors needed to support complex life far outweigh the size of the universe and the number of stars and planets. You might want to check it out.
Funnny this is great!!! I agree Evo has no place in Creation!!! how can you serve two masters. You cannot serve a Lie and the Truth. so get off the fence!
Another reason evolution can't possibly be true- Evolutionists believe the bing bang happened..but how could it have happened if there was NOTHING there at first? What nothing just exploded out of nowhere? Yaaa.. and WE are the ones chasing after fables and fantasies? No. I don't think so. Evolution makes no sense. God. Makes. Sense. I could go on but i'm running out of room lol
What we Christians are saying is that matter and energy do not, in and of themselves, demonstrate the kind of transcendent reality and ability that can explain their eternal existence. That is why we must look beyond the physical universe for answers.
And we have found the Answer in Creator God, a transcendent being who exists beyond time, matter and energy. A creator whose existence, since it is transcendent, is beyond the ability of the human mind to totally grasp. And we have seen this transcendent God show Himself in many miracles. He raised a friend of mine from the dead. You can read about that here: w w w (.) theministryofthree (.) com/ArtWebsite/pg_miracle-story (.) htm
That is EXACTLY correct. And THAT is why evolution sucks. Without God, the equation is time plus energy plus matter plus chance = reality. In other words, there is no transcendent purpose to life. One day, the atoms that make up our bodies and brains will be off doing something else and nothing we have done will matter. Without God, love is just a chemical reaction and debating the truth is a waste of time, since regardless of what we know, we all will end up as conscious-less worm food.
And that is why it is so pointless (from an atheist's view of reality) to waste time trying to convince any Christian that there is no God, since ultimately (again, from an atheist's point of view), it doesn't matter what any human thinks, since all humans are pointless, purposeless meat sacks who will all decay one day and what ever "truth" they may have come aquired will have done them no more good than the lies they believed.
BUT...the very fact that the concept of truth actually is very important to everyone (including atheists and Christians) glaringly contradicts the foundation of all atheist theories/philosophies. And this desire for truth has been placed in us by God.
hey - i see you're from ND. i grew up there (in DL). as i'm sure you know, they have had some problem with flooding there also and the lake has reclaimed a lot of land.
hahaha Well...it's not supposed to be an academic discourse - as you said yourself, it's a parody. My main goal in making it was to have a little FUN. My goal was not plumb the depths of the Christian experience or evolution in a short little video. That is better left to discussions on blogs and in coffee shops...
Hey Katibug! I cannot tell a lie - I believe that God created the heavens and the earth, and all the people and fish and birds and bugs and energy and matter and everything else. It may not be clear to everyone who watches it, but this video is a sympathetic, tongue-in-cheek commentary on the "evolution" of the Christian walk, which I ironically present using the Darwinian theory of evolution as a sort of partial metaphor.
My friend...don't get mean and sarcastic on me now. I wasn't the one who said I was looking for a "proper" theory. I know that in one sense, the idea of an immortal, transcendent, all-powerful creator is pretty wild. But in another way, it makes total sense, since I do NOT view the universe as random, but as a very beautifully designed work of art.
hey, what what if there was a universe before us? really are we so self-centered that we believe we were created first? what if a more advanced race that had been screwing around with atoms and what not brought about the end and begining of the universe? hows that for a change.
I encourage you to hold out for an explanation that is better than merely being "close." It seems clear to me that matter and energy do not have what it takes within themselves to bring forth the universe or to last forever (with no beginning!), which they need to have done if there is no God. Nor do they, as impersonal forces and objects, have it within themselves to transcend themselves and bring forth personal beings. You cannot get something more from something less.
Photons can be destroyed, and so make for a pretty poor god. The one true God is a transcendent being who exists outside of time and space and yet moves within time and space. Because of this, He has no beginning and no end. This concept is beyond the ability of finite minds to totally understand. But it makes sense that the Creator of such amazing things as the universe, the human mind and DNA is something more amazing than mere photons or atoms or energy, which cannot think or reason.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." (John 1:1-5)
"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." (John 1:14)
The Big 'BAND' theory, and The 'Christian Fish' is a little sarcastic to young minds.. I guess most viewers of this video are.
The primordial life is way different representation here than what the children learn from school. Let's teach our children about faith without contradicting the teachings of science.
I'm a Christian and that's just my opinion. Happy New Year!
I suggest that you find this too sarcastic for "young minds" because the theology it represents is not something you agree with. The Christian people I've interacted with regarding this animation aren't offended nor do they find it overly sarcastic - but a little silly perhaps. And this wasn't meant to painstakingly represent the theory of evolution in all it's detail - it is merely meant to, in a humorous and general way, use the theory of evolution as a metaphor of the Christian experience.
And "the teachings of science" are much broader and more contradictory than that which is disseminated through our public school system, whether it concerns the origin of the species, global warming or whatever:
Dude, sorry if I misunderstood what you were saying. But when you said, "The Big 'BAND' theory, and The 'Christian Fish' is a little sarcastic* to young minds.." it sounded to me like you were saying that it was TOO sarcastic for young minds... But I have found that children generally love this animation... :oD
Perhaps by sarcastic, you really meant to say that the humor is too mature for kids to understand.
You seek eternal life and it is only in that context that you are prepared to agree that such words as 'nobility' and 'morality' have a meaning. By assuming that position you automatically denigrate anyone else who has a contrary view.
I am content to cease to exist when I die. My nobility and morality only attach to my actions whilst I live. I am content to leave that as my testament to life.
My friend...I don't seek it, I have it. I have had a real confrontation with the living God and He has entered my life in a real, tangible way that has changed everything - I am born again, by the Spirit. I do appreciate the sentiments you express, but the difference between me and you is that you see it (the desire for nobility and morality) as an end in itself, but I know this desire to be merely a door to the real reality of the life of the Spirit. Merry Christmas!
"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:12-14)
Evolutionary THEORISTS must prove their case. They do so, they believe, with help from the graphic arts' department. Fantastical extrapolations & associations, liberal govt.-funding within a culturally-Marxian climate, makes for the wonderful "science" of Darwinian roulette. Darwinism is a religion: question its tenets & invite persecution. The problem with this widely debunked THEORY is that it relies on species crossing over and beneficial mutations. It's not a "working theory."
I can see that we must agree to disagree. I had hoped that you might be more open to other people's opinions and experiences, but I can see by the way you summarily and unkindly have dismissed my thoughts (you said "ridiculous"), that you prefer to talk AT me and to reject things that you really have no understanding about (spiritual things).
I actually have some understanding re: evolution and science (at one point, I had plans to be a bio-chemist and scored in the top 1% in my college entrance tests in math and science).
BTW - concerning the issues in our "discussion" - My friend, time will tell. If you are right, then it really makes no difference what either of us believes, since one day, both of us will be gone and our atoms will be on to other things, with no memory of this discussion or anything else. But if I am right, then one day, you will meet your Creator -- and you must explain to Him why you so proudly and obstinately ridiculed His gracious offer of salvation and eternal life. Good bye.
Ah, good ol' Pascal's Wager. Tell me, why don't you fear being before the throne of Allah and explaining to him why you ignored and ridiculed his prophet?
Because I am convinced, by historical and experiential proofs, that Jesus is God Incarnate. And Mohammed, Allah's "prophet", denies this, so he (Allah) must be rejected as a false deity.
And there are people that believe that, by historical and experiential proofs, that Mohammed is Allah's only prophet, and since Jesus, God's "son," denies this, he must be rejected as a false deity. This same argument could be used for any number of gods and goddesses throughout history.
And I have actually spent a good bit of time with Muslims, in person (in America and overseas), talking with them about their faith, and I have not found any who have said that they have have anything other than intellectual (reading the Quran) or cultural (they were raised in a Muslim culture) reasons for their belief in Islam. But I know of many who have converted from Islam to Christianity because of a supernatural confrontation with Jesus.
I was in eastern Turkey a while back. While there, a Kurdish man (of Islamic background) told me that the previous year, an angel came to him in a dream and told him that Jesus was the Way, but he didn't know exactly what that meant. And a year later, I met him and prayed with him to become a Christian. This sort of thing happens a lot, globally. An excellent example of this is the story of Bilquis Sheikh, in the book I DARED TO CALL HIM FATHER: youtube (.) com/watch?v=EY2Jb8mAwOc
Okay - "Jesus appears to people" is a better argument for Christianity than tired old "if you're right you get nothing but if I'm right you go to Hell." Don't use the latter as any atheist will instantly call you out on it.
So a whole bunch of people have been seeing Jesus in their sleep. I'll guess I'll have to wait for him to get around to me then.
Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I understand where you're coming from. Actually, I don't use that argument to get a person to consider Christianity as much as I do in order to highlight the reality of a God-less universe. Without a transcendent God establishing purpose and "goodness" by His being-ness, this life is mere existence, and there ULTIMATELY is no qualitative difference between a human being and a tree, and one person's opinion is as unimportant as another's.
Cells are made up of atoms. And there is much proof that God exists and that the Bible is true. Here is a movie about Intelligent Design (I.D. is the concept that the universe is not a random, purposeless reality, but rather it was created by an intelligent Being who had a very clear purpose in mind). This movie was shown at the Smithsonian Institute, an noted scientific center:
No offense, but that would surprise me. I have been a Christian for almost 30 years. I have gone through the Bible from beginning to end three times (working on my 4th), as well as having taught and studied the Bible for quite a while. I am an ordained pastor. I used to be the missions director for a church and have led several teams overseas. I have received dreams and visions from God and have seen numerous miracles (one of my friends was raised from the dead). I have led several ministries.
Also, I have experienced God's miraculous guidance for years, including through dreams and visions. Besides studying the Bible, I have hands-on experience with the Author of the Bible. And if you knew Him as I do (personally, intellectually, spiritually and miraculously), you would never have left Christianity. But I do understand why many are offended with Christianity - to many (who do not know Jesus personally and in reality), it can be a very empty experience.
I will try to ignore the sarcasm and act as if you really are interested in me as a person. Among many other things, I have a friend who was raised from the dead. You can learn more here: christian-faith (.) com/html/page/caspar_mccloud
life without god is meaningless is it?? do you people think family, freinds enjoying life, making people happy are unimportant? putting god first just proves that you have zero morality and 100% rule following. you people make me sick with all your false niceties, thats why you have confesion so you can do bad things and then confess to clear your concience. oh and you worship a evil deity, its in the bible look it up ; )
Meaningless in this sense: if you really buy into the theory of evolution, then you believe that all we really are are atoms brought together by time and chance. So all your emotions and relationships are just chemical reactions. And one day your atoms will be doing something else and will have no memory regarding what they were before and all your relationships and noble thoughts will be gone with the wind, never to return.
And if this really is true (which I don't believe), then it really doesn't matter what we do or think, since it really doesn't matter to the atoms what they do -- whether they come together to form a Nobel Peace Prize winner or a serial murderer or a pile of camel crap. And one day the human race will be gone (perhaps devoured or conquered by the next powerful product of evolution - survival of the fittest!), and all the "noble" things in our history and all human memory will be gone as well.
But the reality of God changes all this. The existence of this amazing Being gives true, transcendent, eternal meaning to all life. I used to be an atheist. But I have experienced the reality of Jesus Christ (including numerous, scientifically impossible miracles) and know better now. But I do understand some of your anger concerning Christianity...there are many hypocrites who claim to be Christian, as well as many true Christians who do a very bad job of following Jesus.
This is the 'pride' argument, not wanting to feel unimportant in the cosmic sence we invent a diety who 'cherishes'us. The more honest, and noble, view is to accept our unimportance but to lead a moral life anyway -that is the ture triumph of human nature.
You are assuming that we DID invent a deity, but actually this Deity created us and because He made us, we have transcendent value. You mention the word "noble". But without a transcendent reality (something greater than chemistry, matter, energy and chance), the word "noble" has no meaning or application -- it is just you, a conglomeration of ultimately purposeless, unimportant atoms saying unimportant things -- mere sound waves going off into the air.
And in 100 years (according to the bottom-line reality of atheism), your atoms will be off doing something else just as unimportant and pointless as they are now - so things such as "nobility" and "morality" are just two more meaningless words. (and all words are unimportant, for that matter!) So why do you waste precious breath on them? WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT?!
hey hey hey.... wait a minute. they said we evolved from fish, to monkeys, to humans, if that's so then why did'nt the cycle continue for each species? why did'nt all the fish evolve into land animals. why did'nt all the monkeys evolve into humans? come on scientists you've got alot of explaining to do. i think fish, and monkeys should be extinct if it was all evolution

And it points to intelligent creation.
verticalhold 2 years ago
And I would direct you to Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot." You can look it up on youtube, it really puts thing sinto context in a beautiful and stirring way. For such an important planet as you would claim ours to be, it seems awfully small and insignificant...
ISDP1337 2 years ago 2
And I would direct you once again to PRIVILEGED PLANET. The scientists in this video reference Sagan's pale blue dot concept and give evidence against it.

@verticalhold I don't understand how saying that something is special points to intelligent creation. That makes no sense...
cyan1dedr3ams 2 years ago

We all might be wrong.
dumdedumscott 2 years ago
What you have just said shows how little you know about all the historical, archeological, and textual evidence that backs up the narrative found in the Bible. There is no book that compares to it. No book that comes close - the Quran, the Bhagavad Gita, nothing.
And concerning evolution and the big bang - there are many scientists who have been able to see the flaws in atheistic scientific theories and have looked past these flawed theories and found the living God.
verticalhold 2 years ago
Although I am not a scientist, I am intelligent. I scored in the top 1% in math and science in my college entrance tests. But along with the intellect, I have powerful, spiritual experiences with the God of the Bible that have convinced me that He is real, even though I do not have all the answers that my intellect seeks.
Is there a hunger in you to know God?
verticalhold 2 years ago
Try learning something about molecular biology and math.
The probability a single protein forming in the correct sequential order is 1 to the 72nd power. They are a 150 amino acids long.
And 20 to the 150th power of possible ways of arranging the amino acids. The probability of generating one single shore protein through random mutation is 1/70 power. That's 100, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion.
HatedChristian 2 years ago
So that just makes it amazing. Doesnt mean something caused it to happen.
simonedday 2 years ago
It is amazing in a way that cannot be explained by natural forces. Mere matter and energy have not shown anything close to any such creative ability. Only something immensely creative, intelligent and powerful could have made such things. I am sorry that you cling so tenaciously to your anti-God stance, even though acknowledging that the universe is amazing beyond natural explanation. Perhaps you are more biased against the supernatural than you know or are willing to admit.
verticalhold 2 years ago
How does this prove there's a god, again? I'm sorry, I must have missed that part.
Mequellios 2 years ago
WelI...I mentioned the universe having been created by something that is creative, intelligent and powerful and which transcends the limits and laws of time and space. That is what we typically call God. It is funny that you may be willing to admit that such a "thing" exists, but you do not want to call it God.
verticalhold 2 years ago
You could call it "God". In fact, Einstein and Hawkins use the term in that way. But to call it a god by your definition, I would need a reason to do so. So far we don't have any evidence or even a non-biased observation to suggest that somewhere, hiding in the unknown, is an intelligent being that caused the big bang. To assume it as truth on this basis, is irrational. To assume it's a very specific type of god with attributes given to it by a bronze age story book, is even more so.
Mequellios 2 years ago
He has chosen to hide things from the merely intellectual and to reveal them to the spiritually hungry.
verticalhold 2 years ago
Big bang and evolution have nothing to do with each other. Evolution explains the complexity of life. The Big Bang explains the origin of the universe itself. Funny how christians equate both to being the same thing. Newsflash: the Earth is NOT the center of the universe. The Universe is far older than the Earth.
ISDP1337 2 years ago
I think it perhaps you that is not looking at the big picture. Essentially, both the existence of the universe, and the existence of the Earth and the species that live there are explained (by atheistic science) as energy plus matter plus time plus chance = reality. That is what we mean when we (as Christians) lump the big bang and evolution on the Earth together. And that is what intelligent design theory seeks to refute.
verticalhold 2 years ago
And concerning the Earth's place in the cosmos, more and more scientists are rejecting the extension of the Copernican Theory (which assumes that there are many Earth-like planets in the universe) and are realizing that all the factors that are necessary to support advanced, complex life make the Earth actually very special: w w w ( . ) viddler (.) com/explore/HeadOfDays/videos/197/
verticalhold 2 years ago
Infact, there are some scientists that now belive its more likly that other life exists. True its very hard to get the right conditions for life to start, however the universe is very big.
simonedday 2 years ago
According to the scientists who spoke in the video THE PRIVILEGED PLANET (see above link), the necessary ingredients needed to support complex life far outweigh the size and potential of the universe. This video was shown at the Smithsonian.
verticalhold 2 years ago
There are a lot that believe this actually. With trillions of stars that resemble our own, it seems unfathomably odd that there wouldn't be life somewhere else in the universe. Maybe even intelligent life.
Mequellios 2 years ago
That's why I mentioned the film PRIVILEGED PLANET, which was shown at the Smithsonian a couple years ago. Have you seen it?
w w w ( . ) viddler (.) com/explore/HeadOfDays/videos/197/

simonedday 2 years ago
What we Christians are saying is that matter and energy do not, in and of themselves, demonstrate the kind of transcendent reality and ability that can explain their eternal existence. That is why we must look beyond the physical universe for answers.
verticalhold 2 years ago
And we have found the Answer in Creator God, a transcendent being who exists beyond time, matter and energy. A creator whose existence, since it is transcendent, is beyond the ability of the human mind to totally grasp. And we have seen this transcendent God show Himself in many miracles. He raised a friend of mine from the dead. You can read about that here: w w w (.) theministryofthree (.) com/ArtWebsite/pg_miracle-story (.) htm
verticalhold 2 years ago
That is EXACTLY correct. And THAT is why evolution sucks. Without God, the equation is time plus energy plus matter plus chance = reality. In other words, there is no transcendent purpose to life. One day, the atoms that make up our bodies and brains will be off doing something else and nothing we have done will matter. Without God, love is just a chemical reaction and debating the truth is a waste of time, since regardless of what we know, we all will end up as conscious-less worm food.
verticalhold 2 years ago
And that is why it is so pointless (from an atheist's view of reality) to waste time trying to convince any Christian that there is no God, since ultimately (again, from an atheist's point of view), it doesn't matter what any human thinks, since all humans are pointless, purposeless meat sacks who will all decay one day and what ever "truth" they may have come aquired will have done them no more good than the lies they believed.
verticalhold 2 years ago
BUT...the very fact that the concept of truth actually is very important to everyone (including atheists and Christians) glaringly contradicts the foundation of all atheist theories/philosophies. And this desire for truth has been placed in us by God.

My friend...don't get mean and sarcastic on me now. I wasn't the one who said I was looking for a "proper" theory. i happen not to believe in the big bang.
a blast and energy does not explain where all the physical things came from.
yet, it's the closest i get to a proper theory for how this shit was made.
Anonymousdeliverz 2 years ago 2
I encourage you to hold out for an explanation that is better than merely being "close." It seems clear to me that matter and energy do not have what it takes within themselves to bring forth the universe or to last forever (with no beginning!), which they need to have done if there is no God. Nor do they, as impersonal forces and objects, have it within themselves to transcend themselves and bring forth personal beings. You cannot get something more from something less.
verticalhold 2 years ago
well, being a god would raise the question: where did god come from?
and i'd like to think about fotons.
a Foton (or photon i dunno)
is known to be able to create both heat, light, and radio waves by simply moving differently.
someone told me that it is a particle made out of energy, and every kind of energy can be lined back to kinetical energy.
so
if we have movement (kinetical energy)
and it forms fotons, then you got a particle.
who knows.
science is closest to my beliefs. ^^
Anonymousdeliverz 2 years ago
Photons can be destroyed, and so make for a pretty poor god. The one true God is a transcendent being who exists outside of time and space and yet moves within time and space. Because of this, He has no beginning and no end. This concept is beyond the ability of finite minds to totally understand. But it makes sense that the Creator of such amazing things as the universe, the human mind and DNA is something more amazing than mere photons or atoms or energy, which cannot think or reason.
verticalhold 2 years ago
i didn't say that photons = god, i said that if energy can become particles, then we got the understandment of the universe right here.
well, that raises the question: "if we are all made of the same, how can free will exist?"
i'd rather believe in what seems more logical (nothing becoming something) than some overrated timeless guy with no origin.
and if he is timeless, then how come he never show himself?
if he is not human, or animal, how can he be a he?
Anonymousdeliverz 2 years ago
Never shown himself?
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. mephisto008 3 years ago
I suggest that you find this too sarcastic for "young minds" because the theology it represents is not something you agree with. The Christian people I've interacted with regarding this animation aren't offended nor do they find it overly sarcastic - but a little silly perhaps. And this wasn't meant to painstakingly represent the theory of evolution in all it's detail - it is merely meant to, in a humorous and general way, use the theory of evolution as a metaphor of the Christian experience.
verticalhold 3 years ago
And "the teachings of science" are much broader and more contradictory than that which is disseminated through our public school system, whether it concerns the origin of the species, global warming or whatever:

You seek eternal life and it is only in that context that you are prepared to agree that such words as 'nobility' and 'morality' have a meaning. By assuming that position you automatically denigrate anyone else who has a contrary view.
I am content to cease to exist when I die. My nobility and morality only attach to my actions whilst I live. I am content to leave that as my testament to life.
ponybottle 3 years ago
My friend...I don't seek it, I have it. I have had a real confrontation with the living God and He has entered my life in a real, tangible way that has changed everything - I am born again, by the Spirit. I do appreciate the sentiments you express, but the difference between me and you is that you see it (the desire for nobility and morality) as an end in itself, but I know this desire to be merely a door to the real reality of the life of the Spirit. Merry Christmas!

CartCollector 3 years ago
Because I am convinced, by historical and experiential proofs, that Jesus is God Incarnate. And Mohammed, Allah's "prophet", denies this, so he (Allah) must be rejected as a false deity.
verticalhold 3 years ago
And there are people that believe that, by historical and experiential proofs, that Mohammed is Allah's only prophet, and since Jesus, God's "son," denies this, he must be rejected as a false deity. This same argument could be used for any number of gods and goddesses throughout history.
CartCollector 3 years ago

And I have actually spent a good bit of time with Muslims, in person (in America and overseas), talking with them about their faith, and I have not found any who have said that they have have anything other than intellectual (reading the Quran) or cultural (they were raised in a Muslim culture) reasons for their belief in Islam. But I know of many who have converted from Islam to Christianity because of a supernatural confrontation with Jesus.
verticalhold 3 years ago
I was in eastern Turkey a while back. While there, a Kurdish man (of Islamic background) told me that the previous year, an angel came to him in a dream and told him that Jesus was the Way, but he didn't know exactly what that meant. And a year later, I met him and prayed with him to become a Christian. This sort of thing happens a lot, globally. An excellent example of this is the story of Bilquis Sheikh, in the book I DARED TO CALL HIM FATHER: youtube (.) com/watch?v=EY2Jb8mAwOc
verticalhold 3 years ago
Okay - "Jesus appears to people" is a better argument for Christianity than tired old "if you're right you get nothing but if I'm right you go to Hell." Don't use the latter as any atheist will instantly call you out on it.
So a whole bunch of people have been seeing Jesus in their sleep. I'll guess I'll have to wait for him to get around to me then.
CartCollector 3 years ago
Well then, I guess I'll just have to wait for Jesus to get around to me then.
Also, don't use Pascal's Wager. It is a flawed argument and every knowledgeable atheist will call you out on it.
CartCollector 3 years ago
Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I understand where you're coming from. Actually, I don't use that argument to get a person to consider Christianity as much as I do in order to highlight the reality of a God-less universe. Without a transcendent God establishing purpose and "goodness" by His being-ness, this life is mere existence, and there ULTIMATELY is no qualitative difference between a human being and a tree, and one person's opinion is as unimportant as another's.
verticalhold 3 years ago
...and you might try something really strange like you yourself asking Jesus to reveal Himself to you.

Cells are made up of atoms. And there is much proof that God exists and that the Bible is true. Here is a movie about Intelligent Design (I.D. is the concept that the universe is not a random, purposeless reality, but rather it was created by an intelligent Being who had a very clear purpose in mind). This movie was shown at the Smithsonian Institute, an noted scientific center:
youtube (.) com/watch?v=yaAFIlmjDL4

No offense, but that would surprise me. I have been a Christian for almost 30 years. I have gone through the Bible from beginning to end three times (working on my 4th), as well as having taught and studied the Bible for quite a while. I am an ordained pastor. I used to be the missions director for a church and have led several teams overseas. I have received dreams and visions from God and have seen numerous miracles (one of my friends was raised from the dead). I have led several ministries.
verticalhold 3 years ago
Also, I have experienced God's miraculous guidance for years, including through dreams and visions. Besides studying the Bible, I have hands-on experience with the Author of the Bible. And if you knew Him as I do (personally, intellectually, spiritually and miraculously), you would never have left Christianity. But I do understand why many are offended with Christianity - to many (who do not know Jesus personally and in reality), it can be a very empty experience.

life without god is meaningless is it?? do you people think family, freinds enjoying life, making people happy are unimportant? putting god first just proves that you have zero morality and 100% rule following. you people make me sick with all your false niceties, thats why you have confesion so you can do bad things and then confess to clear your concience. oh and you worship a evil deity, its in the bible look it up ; )
spacecoke 3 years ago
Meaningless in this sense: if you really buy into the theory of evolution, then you believe that all we really are are atoms brought together by time and chance. So all your emotions and relationships are just chemical reactions. And one day your atoms will be doing something else and will have no memory regarding what they were before and all your relationships and noble thoughts will be gone with the wind, never to return.
verticalhold 3 years ago
And if this really is true (which I don't believe), then it really doesn't matter what we do or think, since it really doesn't matter to the atoms what they do -- whether they come together to form a Nobel Peace Prize winner or a serial murderer or a pile of camel crap. And one day the human race will be gone (perhaps devoured or conquered by the next powerful product of evolution - survival of the fittest!), and all the "noble" things in our history and all human memory will be gone as well.
verticalhold 3 years ago
But the reality of God changes all this. The existence of this amazing Being gives true, transcendent, eternal meaning to all life. I used to be an atheist. But I have experienced the reality of Jesus Christ (including numerous, scientifically impossible miracles) and know better now. But I do understand some of your anger concerning Christianity...there are many hypocrites who claim to be Christian, as well as many true Christians who do a very bad job of following Jesus.
verticalhold 3 years ago
This is the 'pride' argument, not wanting to feel unimportant in the cosmic sence we invent a diety who 'cherishes'us. The more honest, and noble, view is to accept our unimportance but to lead a moral life anyway -that is the ture triumph of human nature.
ponybottle 3 years ago
You are assuming that we DID invent a deity, but actually this Deity created us and because He made us, we have transcendent value. You mention the word "noble". But without a transcendent reality (something greater than chemistry, matter, energy and chance), the word "noble" has no meaning or application -- it is just you, a conglomeration of ultimately purposeless, unimportant atoms saying unimportant things -- mere sound waves going off into the air.
verticalhold 3 years ago
And in 100 years (according to the bottom-line reality of atheism), your atoms will be off doing something else just as unimportant and pointless as they are now - so things such as "nobility" and "morality" are just two more meaningless words. (and all words are unimportant, for that matter!) So why do you waste precious breath on them? WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT?!
verticalhold 3 years ago
