  • Do not buy this camera, you will only end up replacing it as soon as the warranty runs out. It works well, has pretty good video quality in bright light. Photo quality is straight shit. No filter threads meaning no protective UV filters as well as no fisheye lens adapters. As soon as the warranty expired my camera started having focus issues. I called Sanyo and they were of no help at all. My camera is now useless. Thanks for the shitty product. Not buying Sanyo again...

  • just one thing you missed is menus in playback mode. This camera, like all the other sanyo xacti's has on camera editing features. Cut/trim to delete undesirable footage, such as your hand reaching for the record button to end, and a join feature, allowing you to join up to nine clips of video at a time. This camera and any other xacti is great for vlogs, and when you don't want to edit on a pc. I'm definitely getting one. It has all the features i always wanted on a camera.

  • SOLD!

    me too AMAZON £169

  • Can you put a fisheye lens on it, and if, what is the thread size!? (:

  • is it possible to record whilst the Camera is plugged into the mains? I wish to use it to record an event for about an hour then unplug and use for another hour or so. It will be on a tripod for the first hour, then unplugged and hand held for the remainder.

  • how does this compare to the VPC GH3?

  • @jonolid Sorry, I have not used the GH3. Anyone?

  • SOLD. You sir are fantastic. I have seen quite a few decent reviews which had either great information, or great style. You granted both. I was curious about the potential for this camera and you have definitely made up my mind. I could not be more grateful. I would have liked some "low light" observations but considering the amount of content you gave your audience, I am not holding it against you. Thank you again. Fantastic job. -Adam

  • @Metzhara Thank you.

  • can i pu a baby death lens on it ?? if so what is the thread size ?

  • Hi, great review, I actually bought this camocrder recently however I found that the when the lens was facing any dark object faint horizontal lines would appear and it could not focus to save its life, did you experience any of these problems??? Thanks.

  • @MrDka91 No issues on this one.

  • @davomrmac Thank you, Ill be returning it.

  • this would be my first video camera. does the light on it operate only as a flash for pictures or can i use it as a light while recording video? also can i take a picture while recording a video or would i have to stop recording to then take a picture?

  • @sy5tem3rrer You can take picture whilst recording, but there is a slight pause.

  • Would you say it is a definite buy at around $270?

  • @ernestryles It is VERY good value at that price.

  • What video format does the Sanyo Xacti VPC-SH1 record?

  • can i put a fisheye on it ? :)

  • I have a question about this camera. How is the sound recoding? I want to use it in clubs and at festivals, so the sound recording has to be good. Talking about 100 db without starting failing to get the bass also in good quality. So not the cracking sounds when you play it on the computer.

  • @SainenMusic Pretty good, but for loud music you would really need something that allows you to adjust sound levels.

  • @davomrmac Well I don't need it to be outstanding, just good. What do you mean with loud music? Music that is played at a high volume or music with a lot of kicks, drums, basslines, synths, screeches etc? I don't need a perfect sound recording, just good enough to clearly recognice the leading sounds.

  • @SainenMusic Should be OK, never tried it, but potential distortion might worry me.

  • How does it compare to the Sanyo VPC-SH1EXR or are they the same?

  • @freefullvideos They are the same.

  • Can you maybey show a video that has side by side video with the FH1 and this SH1. Showing things like low light situations and overal quaility.

  • @RoderickBorst Sorry I no longer have both. They are pretty much the same, except FH! seems better in low light and I like the sound better on it too.

  • Can you change the shutter speed on this?

  • so i can attach a fisheye? and does it come with a fisheye or somthing? please replie

  • Hello can you tell me if it has a light at night???i mean a flash that helps recording at night. i have read the manual but i can't find anything about it.and something else, when i watch the clip i recorded i see horizontal lines once in a while on the screen, what's wrong? thanks for the useful review!

  • i want a camera that is better in low light and takes good high speed videos so im wonder if i should get sh1 or fh1 which one better fits these qualities? also is the sh1 compatable with other lenses or just its one?

  • @3njoisk8ing FH1 is better in low light. Though both perform much better with good lighting.

  • My friend, one more question and I promisse I wont bother you more :) as I'm planning on getting my xacti sh1 tomorrow.

What class of SD Card should I use of this camera?

    I thinking of a class 6 Lexar 8GB.

Should I go for the class 10 instead?

  • @Inblut Class 6 or higher is fine.

  • is it possible to adapt any lenses or effect adapters to the Xacti SH1?

  • @Inblut Yes.

  • @davomrmac

Would youo tell me where to find / order those?

I am searching for almost 1 hrs already and did not find anything...

    thank you ;)

  • @Inblut Well, Sanyo say no, but if you try a cheap 37mm thread it should fit.

  • Hey, is this camera better in quality & features then the Toshiba SX900?

Does it handle well low light situations?

  • @Inblut Not sure about the SX900, but in low light the SH1 is not too bad.

  • Which camera is better? This one or the Canon FS300. How waterproof isn't it? Can it handly a little snow form time to time?

    Thanks a lot, Great videos.

  • @Snowbabidee This is not waterproof. Not sure about the FS300.

  • @davomrmac Alright, Thanks.

  • Does it have an external microphone input?

  • @REALITYB1TES No.

  • @davomrmac Do you know of any similar priced camcorders that do?

  • @REALITYB1TES Not really, you normally have to up the range (and cost) to get mic input. Unless you go for the Kodak Playtouch, that does.

  • Which camera is better? The Sanyo VPC-SH1 or the Sony HDR-CX100?

  • @thecoolest514 This one in my opinion.

  • Thanks so much!!!! You made my day :)

  • @jackXwhite Glad you liked the video.

  • I really want and need a new video camera and i wasthinking of buying for christmas but im very confused about which camera too buy, the VPC-SH1 or the VPC-FH1.

  • @tecnocheezguy247 FH1 has better sound, bigger unit size. SH1 slimline and more consumer.

  • can you attach a tripod for that camcorder ? thanks

  • what is the filter size for this camera?

  • wich one haves better video quality... the cg20 or this one?

  • Can you use a fish eye or a wide angle lens for this?

  • I was thinking of buying this as a christmas gift for a friend. However, the one feature she definitely needs in a camcorder is a good night vision/night mode. How does this camcorder fare as far as that? If not well, then would you maybe have any suggestions around or under $500 U.S.? Thank you for any help.

  • @shroyerdave The VPC-FH1 seems to have better low light performance to me.

  • @chillart02 Good call, glad you got it sorted.

  • would this video camera be good for skateboarding footage?

  • @MIXskate411 Yep, should be good.

  • @MIXskate411 thanks man, nice review btw.

  • @MIXskate411 Just one thing to consider, it is plastic, so don't drop or bash around, no that robust.

  • @davomrmac yeah i know, im very careful with my video cameras, thanks for letting me know anyways.

  • @chillart02 Totally agree, a tripod is a good buy.

  • Great review! I was wondering if the camera had any threads that could be used to attach a different lens though, like a fisheye type?

  • @Gimmynimbles The thread is reported to be 37mm, though it does not look like a very good thread.

  • Im thinking of getting one, im a college student wanting to become a cameraman, and enjoy making short films/adverts and this looks perfect and the full HD video is immense, but ive got a few questions, is it compatible with a mac? Does it feel nice to hold? Is it heavy? Is the battery any good? What is the depth of field like? Does it have a tripod slip at the bottom? Brilliant video! Really detailed. THUMBS UP!

  • @itsmemaverickblue Thanks for your comment. Yes it does work with a Mac (I use iMovie, Final Cut Express and Final Cut). It feels OK to hold and is very light. Depth of field is standard, nothing to shout about. Battery life is about 90 minutes. There is a tripod mount. Good luck :)

  • @davomrmac Thanks for your quick, detailed feedback. because of that im gonna sub! THANKS! I get the camera tomorrow :D

  • is the sh1 significantly better than the fh1?

  • @ernestryles No, just smaller.

  • @davomrmac ok thanks. So would you recommend a purchase of the fh1 over the sh1 as its considerably cheaper?

  • @ernestryles If the extra size is not an issue I would go for the FH1.

  • nice job . thum up

  • @majinproductions19 cheers.

  • I am looking into this camera as a possible addition to a large semi-pro broadcast set-up. Would you happen to know if this camera is able to stream live video to a pc via the USB cable webcam style? I would be forever thankful if you could find out as hours of googling has returned no answer. Thank You so much in advance! -Chris

  • Loved the review, really helpful! Just wondering was that footage taken in Folkestone harbour? I live very near!

  • @themacreation It most certainly is.

  • Hi there,

My company are after a new video device to replace our standard one which is now very old and well has rubbish performance. Would you think this is a good one for good quality product videos?

  • @couzo With good lighting, this is very good for product videos.

  • does the vpc-sh1, vpc-hd2000, or the vpc-fh1 have a mic input?

  • @xbcheungx Not sure on all those, the SH1 and FH1 do not have a mic input.

  • @xbcheungx

The HD2000 has a mic input.

  • Seems that it's very easy to control :)

  • @TheCanCali Extremely.

  • I love when I see ads in front of people's ads that I've been watching for a long time, before they had ads. It's like yea...they made it.

  • okay, I see...thanks for the video follow up.

  • Great review!

Too bad the image stabilization doesn't seem to be the best, even at max wide (35mm) it seems to be a bit shaky.

  • @Sebaring Thanks for your comment.
