  • The puppy mill you were allowed to film is paradise compared to most. My state Dept. Of Agriculture routinely licenses (and seldom inspects) millers who were shut down in neighboring states.

This is an extremely well-done film, though-and thank you for having thee guts to produce and air it. Great job!!!

  • Pet shop owner is and idiot if he thinks the puppy mill dogs are the highest quality.

  • "all of the facilities are USDA licensed, which means they get inspected" BUT what he didnt say is that when there are failures in those inspections, they are not fined or shut down, they're simply given guidance and the inspector 'hopes' they'll fix the problems (like feces covered dogs, untreated wounds, unsafe conditions etc)

  • I have to say I'm not that huge of an animal rights guy, but I've seen firsthand what happens to those extra puppies from kennels like this. It is wrong. I would rather pay more from a private breeder that had higher standards the get a puppymill dog. But thankfully I didn't have too. I got my dog from someone in loogootee, it's close to odon. And I payed 125. Local pet store (srq fl.) would have charged 575. So daviess county isn't all bad breeders.

  • the daviess county indiana humain society has a petition against this. erected a bill board on the highway. does anyone know if anything has been done about this? or if one of the larger national animal rights groups has been contacted? this makes me sick!

  • If there's a demand there will be a supply...

Although keep in mind this video is from 2007. I think more people are turning to shelter adoption and choosing to purchase purebreds from reputable breeders. I've seen a lot of pet stores discontinue carrying puppy mill puppies, and choose to invite rescues to bring their animals in on the weekends for adoption events.

I have to disagree with the comment there is less selection at shelters. There's amazing choice... all ages, all breeds!

  • I live right next to oden and i have talked to that guy before the graber guy he seems like a nice person but guess not

  • i have heard the amish raise these dogs and if they dont sell them within the first few months they kill them. once they are out of their "cute" puppy stage they dont want them anymore. thats sick and disgusting. i went to uncle bills a few weeks ago, they are charging $1500 for some of these dogs that are mixed breeds. its ridiculous and sick.

  • That breaks my heart! My dog was bought from an Indiana pet store, He died shortly after he turned 8! I now know ALL about these awful mills!!

  • Ethical?

    Moral?

Even going as far as saying that it's the "Best way to keep them"?

This guy is nuts. Dogs do NOT like staying in cages

  • who can tell me where else can i buy a puppy?

  • search around for a local breeder, even look a bit further, usually the best can be found somewhere out in the countryside, word of mouth and the net are the best way to find them

  • Don't let this stop you from purchasing dogs and animals from pet stores. SOME are bad, and some are good. If you adopt a dog, there's less good selection, and many are adults. If you find something you like, however, adopt the dog!

  • yes, some are good but most are bad. how will you ever know? if you buy a puppy and it just so happens to be from a puppy mill, then you will be supporting a huge commercial operation that kills millions of innocent dogs every year.

by adopting, you can give hope and a new life to a deserving dog OR puppy (you can find BOTH at shelters). plus, with an adult dog, you already know their personality and what they look like. plus some may already be house-trained/trained in general.

  • Can you back up your claim that "some are good" with evidence? Can you give specific examples of pet stores who get their puppies from reputable, responsible breeders?

Can you provide photos of the puppies parents and their living conditions as well as the genetic testing the breeders have done to ensure they are producing sound and healthy puppies?

  • pinkstrawberry64, have you actually DONE your research on pet stores and puppy mills? By buying a puppy from a pet store you're ENABLING a pet store and hurting the puppy. Pet stores should be selling pet supplies only and NOT selling puppies and kittens there. It was even on Oprah about pet stores and puppy mills and EVERY animal lover will tell you NEVER buy a dog or cat from a pet store! My aunt got a dog from a pet store and now it's sick, I tried to warn her but she didn't listen to me!

  • Bill is an inbred peice of trash. He has to hustle puppymill dogs to pay bills. What a scumbag. Dogs are not happy to live their life in those cages your moroon. What a SLIMEBAG. Levi Graber is a stinking HOG!

  • Dogs actually go mentaly crazy, as in you need to be in a instituded into a nut house, crazy when they're confined into a cage most or all their lives. So its not true that dogs can handel living in a cage.

  • Animal House in cincinnati still sells puppy mill dogs their number 513-9316139

  • Are you mental? Adopt, adopt adopt. It's that simple.

  • uncle bills gets all their puppies from puppy mills me and my aunt went in there and asked them and they didn't have an answer. puppy mills are horrible i just wish i could do more to stop them. we've gotten all of our dogs from shelters thats where people should go to get their pets.

  • oh my god i was going 2 buy a puppy at uncle bills

  • "We are not ashamed of where our puppies come from"-Vice President Of Uncle Bills

    "What Crap!"-Me.

  • lol, at 1:58 the well-cared-for puppies fall off the step rather awkwardly.

    Whoops!

  • You are so naive to think that these animals come from "private breeders". If you want to do some real volunteer work, then maybe you should look into the Humane Society or a No Kill Shelter and find the animals there good homes.

  • Ahh, the usual semantics.

Is this what they coached you to say?

What exactly is a "private breeder"?

Have you personally been to these "private breeder's" kennels? If so, I'm sure you will have no problem sharing what you found.

    What was their setup like?

What are the living conditions of the parents?

How many dogs do they have?

How many of the breeding kennels have you seen?

Please, enlighten us with actual facts. Not what the manager at the pet store told you to say.

  • Anyone considering buying a puppy should only buy from a small breeder like the one seen in this video... someone you can actually go to their home, see the parents, etc...

Never buy at a pet store. Never support a pet store that sells puppies. Only support pet stores that have shelter dogs in them available for adoption. If everyone would spread the word, bombard legislators with letters, and cut off the demand things may change. But it's going to take an army of us to accomplish it.

  • Oh, yes I'm sure keeping a dog in a cage it's entire life, is the best way to raise a dog!! Having it's name be USDA #21562 it's entire life is sure wonderful! Having to run in circles and have no human interaction is just a perfect way to raise a dog! thanks for the advice! I'm sure my Australian Shepherd would love it!

  • Abuse and exploitation of animals is unjustifiable and should be unlawful. These people are a bunch of money hungry crooks. They need to live their lives in a cage without any human attention, namely "solitary confinement" in prison. Publicity is the key to ending the torture of animals.

  • I don't see how this guy could possibly say a dog could be contented spending all its life in a cage that's 'regulation sized'. Let's put a toilet in a closet and deliver food and water let him live his whole in it and see how he likes it. Even prisoners in jail get to go outside in the exercise yard.

  • this is so inhumane. if you want to buy a dog, pick up a news paper and go to the breader. STAY AWAY FROM PET STORES!! GET THE WORD OUT! BOYCOTT!! I KNEW I HATED THEM OMISH FOR A REASON! IM ASHAMED TO BE A HOOSIER NOW.

  • "Pick up a news paper and go to the breeder"? What is wrong with you?!! Don't know you that puppy mills advertise in the paper AND buying from a breeder is NOT the answer to the situation, maybe you should do some research before posting.

  • those puppy pipelines are positively horrid. i compleately agree with justwantyoU2noMe69

  • linda.and richard..are one of the few breeders that are responcable breeders..i commend them for that. there needs to be more like them.

  • Can I add this video to my palylist in my channel page here in youtube?

    kat

  • I'm not sure how it works, but you certainly have permission from us to add it. Thanks.
