  • Some people are really overplaying this battle. Yes. The Americans suffered very heavy casualties. But they weren't "wiped out" or "annihilated" The battle was a blunder tactically and pointless strategically but it wasn't a disaster. Hell, the Americans ended up taking the forest a month or two after the battle was over.

  • Who else thinks Ron Eldard would've made a good Solid Snake for a movie?

  • i studyd and learned. it has bin forgotten because historians didnt tell about a battle were the americans were comletly wiped out. in the roman age roman legions were ambushed and massacred in these woods i live half an hour away from it and gonna visit the hurtgen see the terrein see if i can find some bunkers

  • why oh why is this battle so forgotten because of the abttle of the bulge yeah. but i think there to less credit and tribute for the people in this battle would like a good documantary about it too

  • I met a WWII vet that was in the Hurtgen forest. It was like meeting a celebrity, he was surprised I knew about the battle

  • well done Bradley & Hodges for making the most monumental cock up in American military history!!

  • It amazes me how Europeans have fallen in grace and class. Imagine many Americans aspire to be like you, including our own president. Your countries are broke and bankrupt like ours, your histories are full of death, destruction and appeasement of the perpetrators of such. Show me one country in the world whose modern day culture is not despised by someone. At any rate, you may as well express your opinions before sharia law is imposed because you are too damn politically correct to stop it.

  • this was a great movie it showed how it wasnt like 2 Americans killing 50 Germans or whatever it did a pretty good job of showing how it really was the only thing I dont like about it is how green they made the Americans look, I mean they were not powerhouses in this battle but they were not cowards either

  • One of the best movies about WWII, and one of the most underrated ever.

It shows the Americans without being overtly pro-American.

    I LOVE the musical score!

  • What does the red spot on the sergeants helmet stand for..?

  • @Samsungs1234567890 it is the symbol of the 28th infantry division and this division was nicknamed the bloody bucket division by the germans

  • I'm not a fan of America, nor am I a hater. However they did help us (England) out greatly in the war. For that matter, they helped everyone out in the war, as well as holding their own with Japan. So don't hate them because of their modern day culture.

  • Having said that, I would say it's better not to categorise everyone into one "side" or the other - human beings are individuals after all.

  • @NotesCollector It is not wrong to categorise people on one side or the other because of the war, because it is what happened, Axis consisted of Germany, Japan, Italy etc. Where as Allied were Americans, British, Canadians, French etc. I'm not exactly going to say:" The humans attacked the humans however the humans fortunately managed to contact the other humans to battle the humans." It is not wrong to categorise people because of their nationality. Hope this is what you meant x

  • Yes of course, We couldnt be going around saying that " The human with a defective nut went on a harvest of carnage against the other humans because of their religion and ethnicity" , could we? :)

  • @NotesCollector Exactly, so its not wrong to categorise everyone into one side or the other is it?

  • @NotesCollector Exactly: This further proves my point.

  • @hubbabubbly that credit indirectly goes to us their are existing rather flourishing only Bcoz of us n they dint come to help us out in Africa SAS did it by itself we r gr8 n v never do surrender :)

  • @hubbabubbly England did help in Asia, the sent a few ships, planes and soldiers while the war in Europe still raged, then a few aircraft carriers after VE day

  • @hubbabubbly god bless you

  • @hubba bubba Well said, except for the Japan comment, I thought we practically removed them off the map with the atomic bomb.....

  • @Metalmanmania357 When I say "Held their own" I mean that America was able to fight in more than one places.

  • @hubbabubbly Ahh I gotcha, ok, I see what you meen. I cant even begin to imagine you the pilots felt after delivering those bombs, It is something that I myself could not probably do, or if I did, I would have serious guilt issues, ya know.

  • @Metalmanmania357 I know what you mean, but that's war my friend.

  • @hubbabubbly Not a fan? If it wasnt for the USA bailing out every friggin country in the world that has been invaded by another foreign body, the whole world would be either facsist or communist by now. Every country except Japan, that the USA has whipped or helped has bad mouthed or spit at the USA for over 100 years. The next time there is an ivasion of a European country I hope the USA stays out of it and lets you get your asses kicked. I dont think our blood is worth your freedom.

  • @JoezVendetta Erm, excuse me? I wasn't having a go at America, I was praising them for how well they done in WW2 and how they heroically defeated multiple countries whilst battling on their own front. In no shape or form did I ever dis regard them as being bad. I have no idea why you are getting upset over me saying how well put together America is when it comes to battlefronts. What's your problem man? Can't take appreciation for your country? I'm only acknowledging the heroism from USA.

  • @JoezVendetta I agree too many countries love socialism until it is forced upon them. Just read Animal Farm George Orwell, who knew how socialism worked.

  • @hubbabubbly Look our modern day culture is not who we are, it is a small percentage let me remind you very small.

  • I've never love the Army, but I felt sorry for the Infantries who have to serve for those politicians sons of bitches.

  • This is pretty much the Peleliu of the ETO.

  • My grandfather on my mother's side was a British Para. But served with the Yanks a few times during the war. He liked the Yanks, but he thought they were sometimes extremely inadequate fighters. Making stupid mistakes. He spoke highly of the US Airborne though.

  • @padookieking well, so did the British...more than a few times against the Germans....

  • @PeterMayer Just like the Munich Act signed by Neville Chamberlain! Who thought seriously that the Germans were not going to start a war. OOOPS! You mean those Nazis went back on their word? Hell, Churchill tried to tell you this since Hitler was placed as German Chancellor in 1933 eight damn years!!! Before this fiasco of being invaded. We are seeing it now with the President of Iran..

  • my grandfather was in this battle

  • @Tigergruppen88 Did he survive?

  • 5:35 warren recieves his new brown coloured GI pants.

  • Dwight Yoakam ruined the movie

  • Really great underrated movie. Special effects are terrible but the dialogue is great

  • By the way the stars are in the 28th infantry division called by the Germans the Bloody Bucket division. Thank you for uploading this film

  • I know quite a bit about WWII, but I don't know much about this battle. Anyone got info?

  • @MACKINBLAK2896 this is what happened before the battle of the bulge the germans pushed back into the argennes forest

  • @MACKINBLAK2896 Theres a book available by Charles Whiting - good reading - tells the truth of what really hapend.

  • @malcjow what is the book called?

  • @sgtcamp1246: Greetings. Have you learned upon which book this movie is based? Amazon has several books written about the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. Wikipedia just stated: 'When Trumpets Fade' is based on a true story of the Battle of Hürtgen Forest. Currently I am reading 'A BLOOD-DIMMED TIDE' (Battle of the Bulge) by Gerald Astor based on personal accounts.

Thanks to you or anyone that is knowledgeable about the book in question and will share that knowledge.

  • @MACKINBLAK2896 If you don't know about this then you don't know "quite a bit" about anything, bucko.

  • by the way, they called this the "meat factory" not the death factory

  • called it both, as well as the "green hell"

  • great film 5 star

  • The victors write history, so it isn't a surprise that this battle was left out of the history books. Also not mentioned is the US's brutality towards German POW's, especially after Germany fell. Ike hated the Germans!

  • Or the Germans treated American POW's during the bulge? American's don't even know about that one..

  • @astranine Sorry, the Germans treated the Americans sometimes a little worse. And I'm German/American.

  • This is intense, I love the background music. Thanks' for uploading.

  • This was just before the Battle of the Bulge and some of the units that got hammered in the Hurtgen Forest were sent to the Ardennes for R & R and refitting. Ended up being the first to smacked around by the Germans when they launched their offensive. How's that for damned unlucky??

  • It was also forgotten because it was a tactical disaster, and the Americans almost got completely annihilated, so the history books usually don,t mention it.

  • @camaro76 um not exactly, this battle was taking place at the same exact time as the battle of the bulge and this one was small in comparison. But yes it was considered a tactical blunder on part of the U.S. It achieved little to nothing. Supplies were hard to bring up, replacements,

  • @camaro76 4th Infantry Division barely made it out. So was the Ranger Battalion that sticks with the battle.

  • Oh ok, thanks for the information!

  • So was this the Battle of the Bulge before it started snowing?

  • lol "theyll call out to you in english and try an spook ya"

  • Blood Buckets in German Blutiger Eimer

  • ROLL ON 28TH ROLL ON

  • Haha awesome. "I don't smoke" "You will" A couple hours later... He's lightin one up. Awesome.

  • Thanks, great feedback. That's very interesting.

  • These guys are wearing the red keystone of the 28th Infantry Division... a National Guard unit from the Pennsylvania area. Because of the shape and color of the 28th's insignia, and the fact that so many of them died in the battle, the Germans nicknamed them the Blood Buckets.

The lingo, like "walk point", and "go home in a box" wasn't used then. Casualties were buried in-theater... not shipped home in boxes. The phrases are Vietnam era.

  • how do you say "Blood Buckets" in German?

  • warren is like wtf did i get into

  • Are these guys Rangers, please say they are.If they attack Castle Hill 400, then they are either F-company or D-company of the 2nd Battalion Rangers. Probably F-company, they were almost decimated there.

  • Yep they are.

  • They don't look like Rangers, they don't have the Ranger tab. But oh well, they might have had to remove it.

  • could be Rangers they were in the Area during the time but i think there just GIs the Sarge could be a ranger cause he the only one who has his shit together

  • No, the divisional patch on their shoulders and on the Sergeant's helmet is the 28th Infantry division, A.K.A. the Bloody Bucket division. No they are not Rangers.

  • Why do they swear in this movie so much? It brings down the fun and seriousness of the movie. :(

  • Many men swore like that, it's called talking like a sailor, or swearin' like a soldier. Very common today and back then.

  • Thanks for the upload, it's a great movie so far! Cheers buddy:)

  • You are welcome ^^

  • @NotesCollector thanks for the subtitles i dont have speakers :)

  • nice

  • YEAH High Q awsome^^

  • first time for me seeing this so far so good,
