  • The Fragonard-inspired set, the dream cast, Solti, and of course, Mozart's best work of all time—perfection.

  • Why oh why can't someone please post the 1991 performance of the New York City opera of this? It was simulcast on BBC before I die please Sept 25th 1991. Scott Bergeson Conductor Maureen OFlynn played Susanna! PLEASE PLEASE the whole opera, or at least the aria Susanna sings in the garden in the 4th act to tease Figaro!

  • How right you are, the cast is fabulous. What a wonderful Susanna Lucia Popp was.

  • 6:00 starting here i always get goosebumps. even after the billionth time listening to this beautiful piece of music.

  • Wonderful performance. I've just seen the new one a few days ago in Bastille with Luca Pisaroni and Ludovic Tézier and it wasn't too bad. Good opportunity to appreciate in live the nice decor and the marvellous costumes.

  • Beautiful production. I was born the year of this performance (1980). As such, I missed out on even the great opera stars still singing past their prime in this decade - Sutherland, Popp, Janowitz, Price and 80's ladies like Kathy Battle, Jessye Norman, Carol Vaness and Ghena Dimitrova. The 80's was probably the final great era of opera. 90's singers weren't all that. I don't like Fleming or Terfel. Damn, I was born too late!

  • @AmericanEvita - Don't cry Evita, perhaps in you next life you will be born a few years ealier!

    (Is that possible?)

Just a little joke here, so please don't take offence....

You were born in 1980 - so that makes you about 30 years old.

Well, let me say that you do not look 30 years old!

But 10 years ago 'you looked 30 years old'

    Questions without answers:

Why is Abbreviate such a long word?

Why is Dyslexia such a hard word to spell?

Why does Sour Cream have a sell-by date?

  • Heaven...

  • It's a music for your soul... Perfection and such a talent and insight - a work of a true genius

  • hahaha loove it

  • Beauty.

  • the first opera I saw at 13

  • Magnificent Mozart. Who else could compose music like this. The finale must rank among the most beautiful pieces of music ever written.

  • bravo!

  • I love the way that Mozart can pull you between tears and smiles.

  • Beautiful! Well done!

  • omg so amazing mozart was the best

  • Et lux perpetua Maestro....

  • 6:02

  • Everything lovely in life is expressed in this music

  • Whenever this duet starts, I feel very sad, because the opera is about to end.

  • I know that feeling :(

  • @mozartjpn137 Hehe that's how I felt when I finally got to see it live. But then I could live in the theater. Seriously. lol

  • Bonissima!

    Brava! Bravo!

Such great voices bringing Mozart's towering opera to vibrant life!

    I love it!

  • 5:46 onwards! Perfection!!!

  • yay my fav. part :D

  • Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro is the work of a genius. The perfect opera !

  • muy bueno

  • Greatest work of art on Forgiveness ("perdono, perdono..."). As usual in Mozart, music makes characters.

  • 6:00-8:34. Absolutely transcendent.

  • At 6:00 it becomes etheral.

  • Een van de allerontroerendste momenten uit de hele muziekliteratuur: waar Almaviva's "contessa perdono" wordt overgenomen door de Contessa's "piu docile io sono".

  • best

  • which few did you have in mind?

  • too many notes :)

  • just cut a few and it will perfect!:)

  • Are you aware that I have declared Figaro unsuitable for our theatre?

  • hahahaha best movie ever.

    no ballet!

  • Let me continue the quoting if I may:

    And then suddenly - a miracle! :-)

  • "Tea I'm tish"

  • A bit sluggish perhaps, but still very good.

  • Ummm

  • they gotta stop rushing!

listen to the orchestra struggle to stay with them!! =(

  • Simply magical...probably the greatest opera ever written....outstanding performances all around!!!!

  • I went to see this at my local theatre and it was amazing- love Mozarts music :)

  • I' ve got chills!

  • It would have been PERFECT with Te Kanawa in the cast!

  • but this is perfection

  • Agreed. However, there is only one Countess role available. Janowitz or Te Kanawa are both perfect.

  • "Condenza perdono...!" This is one of my litle favorites. So beautiful that hurts.

    Thanks for this!

  • Mozart, Solti, Popp .... they were all so talented!

  • I sit in tears ! Very Beautiful!

  • Wonderful!

One of the best performances I've ever seen.

    Thank you so much!

  • Thank you for this wonderful consideration. Oh, so beautiful to look at, as it melts my heart.

  • Merveilleux !

    Une beauté incomparable.

    Merci !

  • This is great. Do you have the Count's Aria? I would love to hear Bacquier sing it.

  • Totally and utterly sublime. One of the most amazing intertwining pieces of writting anyone could ever have dreamt off. They don't make em like they used too!! Bravo Wolfie!

  • gorgeous...

  • Great cast, but entirely lifeless conducting from Solti. Same as on his recording with Ramey: after the overture nothing really matters any more.

  • firstly i really like evrybodys singing here! especially van dam has such a great voice, perfect for figaro. and theyre singing with so much passion and emotion!!

but i find the tempo is rather a bit too fast for the very final scene! (i guess im abit spoiled by harnoncourts interpretations)can anyone comment, please!

  • I heared (and sing) already lot of Nozze and, for me this tempo is quite normal. But I have to say that I always found Harnoncourt's interpretation too slow !

  • firstly: they all have wonderfull voices and sing with so much passion and emotion! i especially like van dams singing here, simply wonderful.

but i guess zhey could have done more for the staging...

  • I am about to start learning the part of Figaro. I am so excited! Mozarts operas are so wonderful.

  • APPROVED BY THE ANGEL OF MUSIC

  • Approved by the God of Music

  • beautiful

  • lucia popp (sussana) is one sexy vocal animal

  • I don't really like the count

  • Gundula and Gabriel are great. But Lucia is special ... yes, very special.

  • You said it - Lucia was very, very special

  • You're absolutely right, Janowitz and Bacquier are great, and Popp special. But let's not forget José van Dam, the greatest Figaro ever !

  • akef hklasd ejeocjcpw idfjnwk uweho ke oier woçierj eroitle oçier ler

  • I shiver when I hear Suzanna's solo.

  • Lucia is the most adorable Susanna ever! Also, she is quite possibly the most convincing "Coutess" in this duet...

  • In school, we had at least a concert of this! It was great!

  • I am contented with what you've presented, fantastico!!

  • C'est la plus belle interpretation, oú est que je la peut encontrer o acheter?

    México.

  • The duet is wonderful. Both are great singers. The acting of Lucia Popp is pretty cool. I particularly enjoy it! Janowitz has always a beautiful voice: pity for her bad diction.

  • That is one fantastic Figaro!

  • marvelous the final is the maximun climax

  • I love the finale of Figaro. This was a wonderful clip. Thank you!

  • contessa perdono sniff sniff amazing aria

  • wonderful! lovely! thank you for this video!

  • Wonderful production...thanks very much!!!

  • Ce final est à pleurer tellement il est magnifique, et le mot est faible...une telle musique est indescriptible.

    Merci

  • Nuevamente gracias por el video. El Figaro es muy bueno.

  • Merci pour les videos
