Just look at the joy of these young people playing especially at 9:10. Many of these kids are from extreme poverty and even though Venezuela is a crap country, the musical system for young people is amazing. The orchestras (and there are quote a few) have kids from 16-25, I believe. Dudamel was about 27 when he conducted this piece in London at the Proms.
Ok I am officially tired of these fawning, smiling, nancy-boy conductors standing up there acting like they are nearly orgasmically overjoyed when the orchestra actually does what they told them to. Please, give me another aristocrat.. a Mravinsky, a Klemperer, a Furtwanger.. who got what he wanted by the iconic strength of his conception and fully expected that to be enough. And if it wasn't, well, you can always cancel your subscription.

played this in high school symphony freshman year, and i think it's one of the pieces that made me start to appreciate music. my orchestra conductor left from our school the next year and said of all the things he did, the highlight was making the danzon a success. i am going to argue to play it again before i graduate

@zyon18 I heard Dudamel say on an interview in Ven. TV say that when he conducts Beethhoven he adds something Venezuelan to it. He does this as well when he conducts the Gothemburg SO, and interprets nordic composers like Nielsen.

my wind ensemble played this at nationals and we got a standing ovation but i dont think a WE could ever bring this music to life the way the strings do. this is truly magnificent. i have shivers :)
is going with my high school wind symphony to Michigan Music Conference and we are playing this song. this is possibly one of my favorite songs and i can't believe that i'm lucky enough to be in a band that's good enough to play music that makes people want to get up and cheer at the end, music that can pull the audience away from their uncomfortable auditorium seats and take them on a musical journey that only a song like this can provide.

This is so spectacular! Its funny when in 9 minutes and 7 seconds when the violinist grins and then his pal on the oboe grins aswell.

my wind ensemble played this at nationals and we got a standing ovation but i dont think a WE could ever bring this music to life the way the strings do. this is truly magnificent. i have shivers :)

is going with my high school wind symphony to Michigan Music Conference and we are playing this song. this is possibly one of my favorite songs and i can't believe that i'm lucky enough to be in a band that's good enough to play music that makes people want to get up and cheer at the end, music that can pull the audience away from their uncomfortable auditorium seats and take them on a musical journey that only a song like this can provide.

I went to an orchestra concert in which my mother was playing. They played this song at the end, and sice then I've listened it like a 1.000.000.000.000.000 times... It's so great and it never gets boring!
