Hilarious video. I see you have discovered how short the Sickle's reach is. If you do some more cutting you might want to try including a wrist movement like you are flicking a whip. It helps a lot. By the way, what did you use to sharpen the blade?

@Djemps yeah, i gotta study your video more with the wrist movement. it seemed like the more my wrist flicked, in the practice cuts before the video, the easier it went through the bottles.

i gave it a few passes with my bastard file, it didn't do a hell of a good job, i'm gonna let my nephew borrow it, he's got a grinder at his house, should be quite a bit sharper after that.

@FatGuyWithAKatana Technically a Sickle should be peened thin and then kept sharp with a stone, but I don't even have the correct tools for that. I wouldn't suggest a grinder for any serious sharpening because it creates a concave edge that is less effective than a straight edge. But anything is better than a file! Have you tried sharpening with sandpaper? You can use 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit sandpaper on a wood block and work the blade this way. 1000 and 2000 can be found at Automotive stores.
