  • Your both right. It's taught as A-B-C But that is only as an easily remembered abbreviation for the general public for "panic" assessment. It really makes more sense as B-A-C. As an EFR instructor-trainer (via Master Scuba*PADI*) i always caution checking airway before breathing. And to add to this, circulation doesn't fit the CPR standard anyways and never has. you can be breathing and consious but have inadequate circulation where CPR will be totaly useless. They don't teach that at the Y. lol

  • Well actually, circulation does fit. In order to do CPR, you need to be not breathing and you can't have a pulse. Pulse checks whether it be a radial pulse check or a carotid pulse.

Also, the skin/ temperature also fits as it's another way to check for shock. Aside from seeing visual signs.

  • if its a child get the parents permission. (they will give it. they will say yes because they are frantic and scared)

if its an adult (get thier permission if they deny wait until they become unconcious then procede)

if it is a child and no adult is present just do it and be prepared to get a lawyer you will win if they sue and you can countersue for legal fees.

these are just the guidelines as i have come to understand them i am not a legal advisor obviously.

  • if someone is unconscious will his heart keep beating?

  • do boxers hearts stop beating when they get knocked out? nope it keeps going

always always always check for pulse and breathing in an emercency situation and go from there. there is no set fact on whether or not the heart will be beating

  • You are forgetting the airway check. Airway, Breathing, Circulation.

  • .... no im not. i said check for pulse and breathing. if they arnt breathing then check the airway but the first step is pulse which proves heartbeat and circulation and then if not breathing procede to check the airway. i kinda assumed that was common sense

  • in your primary survey, It is A-B-C's Airway Breathing Circulation. You check the airway first than the breathing then the circulation. If no airway is present, then you give 2 breaths. After further assessment, you decide whether or not the patient needs CPR. if the person needs CPR then you move to chest compressions and ventalations a cycle of (30:2)

  • thats back asswards check breathing then airway then circulation. if you check the airway and they are already breathing then you just waisted time because the airway is fine. im not gonna stick my finger down the throught of someone who is breathing fine

  • No you check the airway first. and you don't always stick your finger down their throat. you look in the mouth and if it was a choking emergency then, you would sweep with your finger-- only if you see something. YOU ARE WRONG. Trust me, I am an Advanced Medical First Responder, I have 7 years of expeerience under my belt.

  • What TRIXSTER is saying is right. it goes Airway, Breathing then Circulation.

  • looks like anyone i go to save is fucked then because ima make sure they are breathing because if they are then i dont care about the airway

  • If they are conscious, theyn you can check the airway by doing a modified airway/ a visual airway check. For example, if they are conscious and talk to you and you do not hear any form of gurgling, or you hear no obstruction, than the airway is said to be clear. This goes for breathing to. You can ask the patient, "how is there breathing." etc.

  • @TRIXSTER03 johnnyboy922 trixter is right, i am a certified first responder and a lifeguard. when he says check airways that primarily means tilting the head back, or into the sniffers position. But Trixter you should never rely on a radial pulse, because usually in an emergency your body wont send blood there, ALWAYS check the carotid

  • In a CPR emergency, yes you go for a carotid pulse. In any other emergency without using CPR then you check the radial pulse. (unless it's an infant.) We were talking about the ABC's in general.

  • Comment removed

  • depends. people can hear when unconscious, they can breath and have a pulse rate. So yes, the heart can keep beating.

  • For a child, in most cases when you ask the parent, they will say yes. However, you cannot say that they will infact say yes. The fact that they may be frantic and scared can also affect their judgement.

  • Scene safety, BSI, then the primary assessment to vicitm liked the Alertness, Verbal stimulus, PAin stimulus and Unresponsive (unconscious) then that's the time we call for help!!! Dont's forget to induce pain after the verbal!!!!

  • Acctually TRIXSTER the Good Sumaritin law where you are able to help automatically when or if the victim goes unconsious only applies in Canada the GSL's are different in the US

  • Yes for sure. The Good Samaritain Law, is different everywhere you go. Some countries in fact don't even have this law. But yes you are right.

  • You would need to do rescue breathing on a patient who is breathing, because the breathing may be ineffective so there for you need to peform Artificial Respiration.

  • Actually, it is pretty hard to get sued for doing C.P.R. or any other first aid procedure. We have the Good Samaritan Act which will protect us as long as we act in good faith, identify yourself as a first aider [get consent,] use the proper training that your ticket allows and as long as you do not abandon or leave the patient.

  • In which cases can you be sued for performing CPR on someone in emergency situation? I know there is the "Good Samaritan" law, but still, there are laws, and exceptions.

  • First thing to do is check for danger..no good you being in trouble before you reach them!!!

I'd sooner croke than have that lady near me!

  • yes. You always start with a scene survey before moving on to your primary survey.

  • why would you do rescue breathing if the person is still breathing this video needs to be pulled and her firstaide/CPR cert too

  • Rescue breathing AKA Artificial Respiration is used on patients who have Ineffective breathing, or Pt. who are not breathing and have a pulse. The lady is performing CPR, no breathing and no pulse.

  • the three C's check, call, care

  • Go buy the updated version of the first aid manual, get training from a properly trained trainer assessor. Practice on a regular basis.

I have no wish to bring anyone down as we are in the business of saving lives but ON A TABLE........come on!. See the 3 Voluntary Aid Societies in GB

  • They don't really just say "go call for help and come right back" They sa a lot more it's like this."Can you go call 911 and come back with ETA? Do you understand?" Lol she didn't say all that.

  • "If it's a child you do two minutes of CPR THEN call for help"

Er, why? To call for help it wouldn't take more than 20 seconds (either by calling 999/911 or shouting) totally wasn't taught this at uni!

  • Children sometimes revive with CPR, adults only revive with a defibrilator. CPR keeps blood/oxygen flowing to the brain and other organs, preventing damage, while watiing for a defibrilator to arrive.

  • ah okay, thank you for the clarification :)

  • The reason is that it is far more likely, that respiratory or cardiac in infants are children result from a lack of oxygen. They may revive if supplied with oxygen by CPR.

In adults, cardiac arrest tends to be a cardiac cause, that often needs a defibrillator and/or drugs like epinephrine and atropine, so the priority is to make sure that this is on the way by calling 911.

  • She only gives us a taste..but if she thinks she is going properly demonstrate chest compressions on a manikin on the table she is sadly mistaken. This would not fly where I am from. Trouble is, some people think this is how to do it!

  • shit i could do it better im only qualified in basic first aid this is shit and some wrong info unless it slightly different in uk but still it is shit

  • Excellent video...will definitely do some good...helped me so far, got an exam tomorrow :)

  • boobs are good for a 60ish yr old!!! lol...
