i went there again quite recently and me and my friend explored as much as possible. We went through about every room we could find. It's a really cool place to check out
I have been in this exact silo 5 times. For some reason I can just keep going and be entertained just walking around. its amazing how something so huge can just go unnoticed and forgotten underground.
@wilkrazor2 It's ok. That's really cool that your dad worked on one of these. Theres a lot of history there. Unfortunately they turned it into a dump. It is now the Elbert County Trash Compactor. According to .cdphe.state.co.us/hm/titanmissiles.htm the site is leased by Elbert County and is used as a solid waste transfer station, and was formerly used as a solid waste landfill (using trenches, not the silos)
Where was this taken? My father worked on silos that I believe were just outside Elizabeth in Elbert County. We lived in Castle Rock. My brother and I were toddlers.
@AsylummWorthy The first time I went it was pretty creepy. Total darkness except in a couple areas where there are some escape hatches that are open. But once you get acclimated, the awesomeness of the place takes over. It is a really neat experience. I went back awhile ago and got a few more pics and some video (not much it was too dark) so I might post those in the future as well.
Thanks for the info! I found it on Google map. Everything is so developed now around there, unlike 25 years ago when I went. I'm sure the silos are sealed up for good.
Yeah, I wonder how many people know there is a missile silo in their backyard :P
That one is owned by the City and County of Denver and they sealed it pretty good. There are a couple others I have not been to that I would like to see if there is a way in. If you look on google maps, just east of Aurora Reservoir you can find more now that you know what they look like from the sky ;) There are 5 in Arapahoe county and one near Elizabeth.
All the Titan 1 Missile bases were Constructed starting in 1959 and all were closed by 1965 when the Titan II missiles were developed.
I'll put a link in the description to some interesting web pages about the Titan 1 Bases. The last link is from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and talks specifically about the Colorado Titans.
Back in the 80's I went to an abandoned missile silo just East of the Smokey Hill/Aurora area. Is this the same silo? I tried looking for the silo I went to on Google map but couldn't locate it. Not sure of the name or title of the silo I visited.
The one you went to is right near Gun Club and Quincey. You can see it on Google map just north of the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. (That's not this one though...)
Nice! I plan on going again sometime as I was there a good 3 hours and still didn't see silos 1 and 2. I heard they were more flooded than #3 though...
was this missile silo 2B? right off I-70? im thinking of going there

I live close to the silos and I have always wanted to go check them out. Have any of you gone in to the other silos?
BenderThaMagnificent 2 months ago
@BenderThaMagnificent I haven't been any others yet. They are all sealed up pretty tight.
:/ Just went to the one in Elizabeth today as they are digging it up to sell it for scrap. Couldn't see much with all the snow though.

@SaintPatrick33 Since they are digging it up, does that mean it's completely unaccessable?

Amazing what lengths and depths the corrupt US regime will go to protect its survival at all costs.

@cobrachoppergirl Isn't it? I wish the citizens of the US would wake up like the Egyptian people did...

This is fascinating! Do you know what year the silos were closed down? Is there a website regarding these silos out in Aurora?
