I'm not sure if anyone has posted this as a comment, but does anyone else think that The Knights in SEL remind you of Anonymous in real life? Maybe they are worse, but still that keeps popping up in my head.
For an anime that wants to stress how important communication is in the real world, many of the characters in the show can't even do that right, except Lain's friends.
I wonder if this was the original "creepy existential cyber-powers manhandling children's psychology" series. Y'know, how they always ask really simple questions that a child might ask, and the context makes it seems very strange.
I feel terrible. I saw the blinking eyes on the screen, and you know what came to mind? Surely a philosophical or otherwise meaningful interpretation! But no, all I could think of was Magibon.
and finally, the sister, what's her beef... she's sorta been the most normal (or at least representing our real world) character so far. She's also (or maybe therefore) been unaffected by the Wired. The God in the wired (see 2nd post) wants everyone, or at least her, to be a part of the Wired. "Fulfill the prophecy" appears to mean "do what I say." She doesn't understand, so the God attacks her.
it might be on a pirated bootleg cd but thats extremely hard to find on the web. i found a russian site with it up for download years ago but i had 56k and was only able to download "track 44." its not official released.
Out of all the mysteries of Lain i found,,, ;O; This is the only episode where i cannot simply figure out what happen... I got 3 ways to see it but can anyone explain this to me ;;O;; Poor Lain's Sister
The discussions between Lain and the strange entities (the doll, the action figure, mom, dad) appear to be Lain's imagination, thought process, or daydreams, to figure out the wired and how the world works. The doll tells us that the world's events are always conceived by pre-written by prophecies. The action figure says that events are always made in cohesion with eachother.
The mom tells us that real life with its people is actually a virtual world for the Wired with its information (the two terms switch meanings: reality is now the electric representation of the true entity that is the Wired). When Lain asks if she's the real mom, the she leaves with disappointment because didn't get her point: the "real" world doesn't matter. The dad discusses the wired and reveals that god, or a godly figure, that makes the prophecies may have been born from the wired.
Yeah, I thought that, too. In episode four, I think, when she stares at her Navi's screen and doesn't really notice that the rest of her room is dark, that's what happens to me often, too. xD
I like this anime... But I don't get it. XD My logic is too sound. lol. We know it is, therefore it is. Things are, because they are, what happens will happen, it's destiny. We live, we die and go to heaven, or hell, and that's that. So... Could someone please explain this to me???? I don't get it. XD
Well to put aside my own beliefs and try to reflect what Lain is about. =P
It's like the matrix only backwords. Reality is the illusion in this case, and the Wired is some kind of new reality where everyone takes the next "step" in evolving.
I dont agree with the logic my self. =P evolution for one is more like 2 of a kind make one like their kind. In other words, if it lives to procreate then only those "kind" live.
Or.. there is nothing at the end of this life and you lay in a black, empty, thoughtless void. Who's really to say that belief in any kind of afterlife is plausible or even logical? Or even the concept of destiny. The idea that something bigger than you or I controls the paths we take. It's ludicrous to say that, before experiencing every aspect of life (and yes, death has a part to play) you truly know this life. For all we know.. we truly know nothing at all.
the logical thing to do is to not interpret this series literally. the things presented to the viewer are biased, allegorical, and only representations of the story. rewatch it and don't believe that everything presented to us happened as it was shown.
somebody worked on a UNIX based system looking like the OS from lain its called LainOS you can find the site trough the Wikipedia article of serial experiments lain
Lain's NAVI has a Psyche processor. This processor pushes a 133mhz base-clock to 400mhz, interpolating the memory controller at a send-rate of 1.6GB/sec. Do you think a processor like that could do the full-motion feature? It won't still be fast enough, right?
You mean the Psyche processor? No, I don't think it exists. I found this information in the Lain's Illustration Artbook. Maybe it's just a concept from ABe Yoshitoshi.
maybe lain's a knight(or the knight) working through hallucinations and making other people see them? but she has split personality or is playing dumb? that my guess oo
I think SEL is right. When you think about it, the internet is a world, isn't it? Does anybody really control the internet? It's not even real, you can't touch the internet... could all just an illusion...
you know,Everything we feel is just an electrical impulse sensed by our nerves and translated by our brain to say "it hurts" or "its cold"or anything else. This is why consciousness is unundestable : If someone goes mad,he may see some things we can't and heat some things we don't,but they'll be as real as ours. We're all nothing but an elctricity random stuff.and its the same for everything.
y'know, not to say that you're not being intelligent, but I wish somebody would come up with some new philosophy sometime; I do believe people have been having these ideas for ages: if all we have to decide what is real is our senses, which are simply electrical pulses (just the same as that of the internet, which is in many ways an illusion), then how can we know what is real? those who try to define what is real, can't be trusted as they are merely provided by our senses, as is this very idea.
I watched the first four episodes of this show sober. But now I'm a little "under the influence" and it's definitely a lot better. I think it was meant to be watched this way!
