Like what rpdeethardt said, those cadences are played every year and handed down from one rookie class to the next. The final cadence is Spider. Practically every school plays it (still) and give their own interpretation of it.
All of those cadences go WAY BACK! I was a ZIT from '80-'84. 1980 was the first year the line turned corp style w/tonal bass drums, so we added our twists for tonal bass and tri-toms at the time. We travelled to many high schools teaching them our stuff and performing at the time too as well as performing at the Percussive Arts Society competitions were 12 of the BEST lines in the country were invited @ the time 2 compete! tamuscott is WRONG. UT even stole Tech's playing of Grandioso/etc!
I was affraid that the wooden stage that we were standing on was going to break. you could hear it groaning and creaking while we were standing on it.
Ever wonder where tech got some of those cadences? We played that last cadence back in 1987 at the University of Texas - Arlington. You're in college now! Write your own cadences!
Played in Tech / ZIT from 1975 - 1979. I know the guys that wrote them, they're all original and were ahead of their time. A lot of schools, obviously UTA one of them, copied them. Didn't even know UTA had a band.
Yeah, even though UTA dropped their football program, the marching band went on. We played different contests, football games (High School, College, and Pro). It was pretty cool traveling every weekend with 260 of your friends in the band.
