He claims that capital gains tax would hurt the economy because it would discourage investment in the stockmarket. 99% of the transactions made in the stockmarket are speculative and in no way constitute productive investment (although the initial sale of shares does) The purchasing of tax deductible plant equipment is productive investment. Wages of the top income earners have been growing and lower income earners have stagnated. In periods of economic growth, individuals with resources (including education) benefit most. This has caused CEOs to earn 401 times the amount of the average american. Do you see any of that wealth trickling down?
