thats cute :D i only got to see the last two births of my platy babies, and now i have a few questions.. my 9 platy were born almost 3 days ago, and at the moment they tend to swim for a minute and then rest on the floor for like 10 minutes, is that normal? also, what are you feeding yours, mine are on liquifry, is it okay for them to have that for a week or so? and im doing 50% water change each day, is that okay?
please reply, im new at this and dont want to get it wrong :)
thats cute i have 4 angel fish ant 2 alguea sucker fish so i have 6 fish we makin a biger tank to have more but how do u know if a fish iz a male or female
How you can tell them apart depends on the species. As for angel fish, males typically have a more prominent forehead and on some of them, the forehead also has a yellow color. On sucker fish, if it's the normal ancistrus that you've got (bristlenosed catfish), males, when they have matured, have little whips or antenna-like things on their heads, which females don't. On other fish you can tell by the shape of the anal fins and such. It really differs between species.
Around 30-40 were born. I usually put them back when they are a little bit more than half the size of the adult ones. Mollies get pregnant pretty much right away. They are easy to breed.
I've got a liquid fry food called LiquiFry. You just put a few, small drops in and they feed from those drops, since they are kind of dense and sink to the bottom.
im sad after watching this i bought 2 of the same fish as this one and two other and just today getting out of work i went to look at my fish tank and notice that one of them was dead and next thing you knw there was little fishes swimming around out of the 14 she had only 2 made it plus she still had more inside of her :(
It's hard to tell when you're not used to seeing pregnant fish, but the more you see, the better you'll be able to assess when to do it. In mollies at least, their stomachs get a kind of square shape to them rather than round when there's only a couple of days left.
@Tinwelende is that the same with platys or only mollies, i think one of my red wag platys is pregnant but i just dont know when to isolate is because i want to keep the babies
not to be stupid or inapropreatate or anything like that... what the the circular yellow balls that are also coming out of the big fish besides babies?
Actually I'm not sure. I don't think it's undeveloped eggs, since they should be broken down inside the female. It might be extra yoke sacks or something, but I'm not sure.
did the fish give birth twice? in a span of a week? in ur video u have a comment which says 1 min old and 1 week old, i have a preg molly which i preg too, i was wondering after she delivers do i still keep her seperate expecting more baby fish after few days?
No, the older ones came from another fish. They can't give birth that othen. After she has given birth (which takes around 10-20 minutes, I'd say), you should separate her from the fry. She won't have more fry unless she's mated again. Good luck! :)
About 20 of them did. I didn't let them out into the big tank, though. I gave them to the local pet store once they were big enough, after being kept in another tank by themselves as they grew.
tnx !!!!! i already asked the pet store they have something like that. it said that they are out of stock how will i know if my molly is pregnant? well she has a big tummy .. but its been 3 weeks long that she has that big tummy and shes not giving birth... is she pregnant or just big tummy?
It's really hard to say anything about that when I can't see her. She might just have a round tummy. When they're at the end of their pregnancy, their tummies even seem to look kind of square-ish, if you look at them from the side, like you can see on mine in this video.
What's the name of the song? I just got a male and female (didn't know they were opposite sex till I brought them home.) and they already started mating. I love this video so much and can't wait to see if mine will have some too!
what do you call the place where the fish gave birth? i want to buy like that. what is that called is it called fish tank separator or something related? pls. reply my molly is giving birth soon
The best thing to do is probably to get some more females, so the female you have now will be a little bit more "confused" and direct her attention towards the other fish every once in a while as well, so that the male can have some time to rest. Plus, if he wants to mate, he will have to divide his time on all the females, so that the female you have now won't be exhausted from being chased around all the time... Not that you have that problem now, though, since it's the opposite. :P
thank you!!!! i just got a female gourami today and and the male is really happy. Thx for helping me out when i was just a beginner im am much more experienced and love my fish tank. =D carry on enjoying your fish as i am doing =D
It can't mate with any other fish than other gouramis, so if there's no female gourami in the tank, there just won't be any babies. He might have started building the nest because he got triggered by another fish, thinking it was a female gourami or something, but didn't realize there wasn't. Just let him be and carry out his construction. It's good stimulation for him. ;)
After having few fish giving birth, you'll learn how to notice when she's about to give birth. It's hard to explain, but when you clearly can tell that she's pregnant, the delivery is usually not many days away, so separate her from the other fish as soon as you know she's pregnant.
Which big fish are you talking about? The angel fish? They have been there since they were small and grown up with all the other fish, so that's fine. All fish go well with each other, and are still alive. No one's bullied and they all live in harmony.
About 15-30 minutes, I'd say, from the first sign of something sticking out until the last fry is born. She might be sitting still, breathing fast for a little while before the fry are born, too, though.
I have 4 mollys two dalmation two black Molly. But two died and I have a girl black Molly and a guy dalmation do you think they'll breed if not what should I do to make them when I get new fish
k i had like 200 fry 1 week ago but every day i see many fry's are missing problaby couse my big filter suck them up so i try to catch the fry and put it in a mini seperate box in my guppy breeding tank so i got around 100 in there they eat alot bloodworms and crushed flakes also have 10 guppy fry in there there are maybe 20-25 fry's left in the other tank whit there parents that i cant take will the parents get mad or something? its my first time .
@TheFishKeeper100 some cichlid fry are dying in the seperate breeding box, but still like 110 left that looks healty and they are 1 week old, should i release them to the cichlid parents, or keep them in the box untill they are big enough to go in the 10 gallon guppy tank that is very well planted.
@Tinwelende i'm gonna take the guppy fry out of the mini box out in the 10 gallon tank whit the other guppys and my betta when they are 2-3 weeks old and then keep my jack dempsey fry in the little box for a month before i take them to the parents or in the guppy tank. what do u think?
@Tinwelende i have around 120 jack dempsey fry 1 week old in a breeding box and 10 guppy fry at 3 days and they eat very well bloodworms and crushed flakes but dont know when to take them out in the little tank whit 3 guppys 1 female betta can u tell me when i should take them out and how whit a spoon or? jack dempseys grow big and the guppys and beta cant eat them when they are about a months old they are as big as a guppy then
First off, it's hard to understand what you mean when you don't use any puncutaion. Try to write proper sentences. You should use a fishing net or, if you don't have that, use a normal drinking glass or something and try to make them swim into there. I think you should use a separate tank for the guppy fry until they are almost grown, since the female betta will probably try to eat them if they are not as big as the other grown guppies in there.
@Tinwelende My english is not so good sry:/ My fishing net is to big i think, and i used my small net to put it on my filter. I can throw the female beta to my cichlids so i dont worry about the beta, but do u think that the 3 guppys will attack my cichlid fry? when they are about a month old, couse if they do i can move them to there parents instead, and problaby they wont eat them.
They normally lay there for a day or so - some of them. The yoke sack is weighing them down, but once they've used it up (it's their food for the first couple of days), they'll swim easier. ;) Some might be dead, though, but most of them are probably alive. The dead ones will turn white within a day if they're dead. Good luck with them! :)
hi my molly fish JUST gave birth and are lying at the bottom of the little tank.. i move back the mommy to the big tank .. i was just wondering if thats normal or are they dead because i notice some of yours are just laying at the bottom too? i hope theyre not dead:(
Where did you get that clear container for mom and babies? I only found the ugly mesh net container but that doesn't have the opening vent where the babies fall through. I want one like yours!
I live in Sweden, so I bought it in a pet shop here, but I'm sure you can ask any pet store if they know if any of their suppliers have them. Maybe they could order one in for you. I believe the brand of mine is "Marina", but I'm not exactly sure if it is... Good luck!
i got a balloon belly molly 2 weeks ago and she is pregnant. how long does it take for them to give birth. u seem really helpful. i got a net thing at petsmart and the mother is it it now in it. could you help me out?? Thanks,
I actually don't remember how long they are pregnant, but I think it's a couple of weeks. If you can see that she's fat, she's pretty close to labor, though, so just wait a few days and there should be babies. Once they're born you can take the female out of the net. Good luck! :)
They could theoretically live there for months, but you should only keep them in there from the time when you think she'll soon give birth until she actually does. So a couple of days. ;)
i have a question!!!! my molly is preggo and she is ready, but i think i can see like a string coming from her, area, like a fry is coming, but it hasn't come yet. is that what it is or what?
I don't know. Might be some pre-things... :P Don't know what, though, or what to call it in english. But just keep waiting. It seems like they're on their way at least. :)
I have a quick ques. I just got a dwarf platty from a pet store and its fatter than the other and has black spots near the butt did i buy a pregnet one? Btw love ur vid! I lik how the other fish were wacthing lol!
The black spots should have nothing to do with pregnancy. But if it's fatter, it might be pregnant. Make sure it's anal fin is triangular and not just a little slender one, which means it's a male. After that point you just wait. Though the other fish in the tank will probably eat the fry if you keep the mother in there as she's having them.
My Molly Recently Gave Birth And I Was Only Able To Save One.....I Took It Out Of The Main Tank And Into The Bowl And Now Its Just Laying There As If Dead....Is it?
Now neccessarily, if it was born today. The yoke sack weighs quite a lot for a little fry and it takes a couple of days for it to digest it and then it will swim easier. But if it's laying there tomorrow, too, it is probably dead, yes. You'll be able to tell by its color, turning more white and less transparent if it's dead.
It's a 25 gallon tank. No, the severums are friendly to all of my fish, fortunately. Other fish are cardinals, angel fish, bottom feeders and such. Don't really remember what more was in it when I made this video.
They grew to about three inches before I decided to return them to the pet store where I work, since they started tearing apart all my plants and they didn't really seem to like it in my tank. Their colors were very pale and they hid quite a lot.
thanks for the advice!! im also working on getting a bigger tank! i hate my mini tank :( but i cant tell if she actually has gotten even a little bigger, but i will keep watch!
HI, well you see i have an all white molly (female) and an orange and white-spotted molly (male) and they have been, well, mating i guess. Im not sure how to tell when they are, but i am POSITIVE. but the problem is, is i dont know if she will give birth or not, and im not always home to see if she does. and i need a bigger tank, but cant afford one right now-im desparate. i need advice.
If you have only those two, I'd say you should take the male out (and place him in some other tank) once you see the female has started to get fat. You'll see that her belly gets rounder. Keep the tank quite heavily planted so that the babies can hide and make sure the filter is not so powerful that it would suck them in. These little breeding-tanks that mine is in in this video is not expensive, though. About 5-10 dollars in Sweden, so it should be somewhat the same over there. ;) Good luck!

The guppies probably won't attack the cichlid fry as long as the cichlid fry are half the guppy size. ;) Cichlids are pretty tough.
Tinwelende 1 year ago
@Tinwelende think its more safe then putting the jack dempsey fry in whit there parents that are very big

Mollies are live bearers.
Tinwelende 1 year ago
wouldnt the mother eat the babys?
sabrinaandremi 1 year ago
Ya, if you don't separate them after birth.
Tinwelende 1 year ago
@Tinwelende oh cause i was watching planet earth and it shows african cichlids and the mother but the babys just go into her mouth for protection
sabrinaandremi 1 year ago
@sabrinaandremi it also depends on the mother. ive ehad some that dont eat them while others did.

hi my molly fish JUST gave birth and they are just laying at the bottom of the tank.. are they dead? i notice some of yours are laying ther too?
mzjuic3 1 year ago
They normally lay there for a day or so - some of them. The yoke sack is weighing them down, but once they've used it up (it's their food for the first couple of days), they'll swim easier. ;) Some might be dead, though, but most of them are probably alive. The dead ones will turn white within a day if they're dead. Good luck with them! :)

Where did you get that clear container for mom and babies? I only found the ugly mesh net container but that doesn't have the opening vent where the babies fall through. I want one like yours!
ladygodivachocolates 1 year ago
I live in Sweden, so I bought it in a pet shop here, but I'm sure you can ask any pet store if they know if any of their suppliers have them. Maybe they could order one in for you. I believe the brand of mine is "Marina", but I'm not exactly sure if it is... Good luck!

how long was the molly in the breeding trap?
tokyoj3 1 year ago
One day before she gave birth. Right after she was done, I let her out, so she wouldn't eat the fry.
Tinwelende 1 year ago
beautiful video. i loved the music that went with it, it suited the occasion.
they look like baby guppies when theyre born! i've just started breeding them. can i have some tips? like:
1. how long are they pregnant for?
2. how many babies will she give birth to?
etc. if ANYONE CAN HELP!
thankyou appreciate it xx
lilshortyk6 1 year ago
Thank you! :)
I'm not sure how long they're pregnant, but a couple of weeks, I'd guess. Try to google it. They usually give birth to 30-50 little fry, I'd say.

Hi there,
Very nice video, also very touching how the momma's fighting for her youngs against hungry discusses & angels, not knowing she's protected. ;).
Lovely video.

i got a balloon belly molly 2 weeks ago and she is pregnant. how long does it take for them to give birth. u seem really helpful. i got a net thing at petsmart and the mother is it it now in it. could you help me out?? Thanks,
Morgan
morganandmegan123 2 years ago
I actually don't remember how long they are pregnant, but I think it's a couple of weeks. If you can see that she's fat, she's pretty close to labor, though, so just wait a few days and there should be babies. Once they're born you can take the female out of the net. Good luck! :)
Tinwelende 2 years ago
about a month or so.
catandfish5 2 years ago
how long can u keep them in the breeding trap
louamypop 2 years ago
They could theoretically live there for months, but you should only keep them in there from the time when you think she'll soon give birth until she actually does. So a couple of days. ;)
Tinwelende 2 years ago
put them in after 3 and a half weeks after she got pregnant

I have a balloon molly in a breeding trap, can i keep her in there for 5 weeks or will she be to stressed?
tokyoj3 2 years ago
She will be stressed, yes. Why do you have to keep her in there for 5 weeks?
Tinwelende 2 years ago
2 or 3 at most. they could go longer but it is to much stress

i have a question!!!! my molly is preggo and she is ready, but i think i can see like a string coming from her, area, like a fry is coming, but it hasn't come yet. is that what it is or what?
kittygoesmeoww 2 years ago
I don't know. Might be some pre-things... :P Don't know what, though, or what to call it in english. But just keep waiting. It seems like they're on their way at least. :)

jeremyvill 2 years ago
I have a quick ques. I just got a dwarf platty from a pet store and its fatter than the other and has black spots near the butt did i buy a pregnet one? Btw love ur vid! I lik how the other fish were wacthing lol!
jeremyvill 2 years ago
The black spots should have nothing to do with pregnancy. But if it's fatter, it might be pregnant. Make sure it's anal fin is triangular and not just a little slender one, which means it's a male. After that point you just wait. Though the other fish in the tank will probably eat the fry if you keep the mother in there as she's having them.

My Molly Recently Gave Birth And I Was Only Able To Save One.....I Took It Out Of The Main Tank And Into The Bowl And Now Its Just Laying There As If Dead....Is it?
Metalhead641 2 years ago
Now neccessarily, if it was born today. The yoke sack weighs quite a lot for a little fry and it takes a couple of days for it to digest it and then it will swim easier. But if it's laying there tomorrow, too, it is probably dead, yes. You'll be able to tell by its color, turning more white and less transparent if it's dead.
Tinwelende 2 years ago
Very cool! Looks like the other fish want to eat the fry lol. Nice music choice too.

how big is your tank??? do the severums bother any of the mollies?? and what other fish u got in your tank??
FishingFanatics97 2 years ago
It's a 25 gallon tank. No, the severums are friendly to all of my fish, fortunately. Other fish are cardinals, angel fish, bottom feeders and such. Don't really remember what more was in it when I made this video.
Tinwelende 2 years ago
how big do the severums get or did get??
FishingFanatics97 2 years ago
They grew to about three inches before I decided to return them to the pet store where I work, since they started tearing apart all my plants and they didn't really seem to like it in my tank. Their colors were very pale and they hid quite a lot.
Tinwelende 2 years ago
oh i c!! do u still got ur fish??
FishingFanatics97 2 years ago
Yes, I do. Just posted a new video of them like a week ago. ;)

thanks for the advice!! im also working on getting a bigger tank! i hate my mini tank :( but i cant tell if she actually has gotten even a little bigger, but i will keep watch!
bnana9898 2 years ago
HI, well you see i have an all white molly (female) and an orange and white-spotted molly (male) and they have been, well, mating i guess. Im not sure how to tell when they are, but i am POSITIVE. but the problem is, is i dont know if she will give birth or not, and im not always home to see if she does. and i need a bigger tank, but cant afford one right now-im desparate. i need advice.
bnana9898 2 years ago
If you have only those two, I'd say you should take the male out (and place him in some other tank) once you see the female has started to get fat. You'll see that her belly gets rounder. Keep the tank quite heavily planted so that the babies can hide and make sure the filter is not so powerful that it would suck them in. These little breeding-tanks that mine is in in this video is not expensive, though. About 5-10 dollars in Sweden, so it should be somewhat the same over there. ;) Good luck!
