Back when it came out people were totally crazy about Virtual nalog Synthesis...Roland JP8000, Novations SuperNova,Access Virus and the Nord Lead were peoples favorites so this one pretty much went under - the Presets didnt Showcase its potential AT all plus people it seemed like a lot of people thought of this one as a updated Cs1x becouse of its looks...lol
I think with a little bit more Work and a different "Case" Yamaha couldeve really nailed it. I hope Yamaha will return this one as VSTi...
I have for years said that the An1x had a very warm and powerful DSP and now everyone is starting to coming round. I must say with many people they just did not know how to program it and use the internal effects and EQ to really make the most of this synth. It maybe not well built but it can really produce some pro-5 / juno 60 sound's. It will never be as warm as a pro-5 but run it into a neve or psp pre and add a little roland tape delay and you have the sound of the Horror films we all love
@Decimator7 Shit? Loool. Watch Jexus's Alesis Ion video (Exactly the same synth architecture, apart from the Micron having a DSP chip for effects, and the Akai having the chip and a better vocoder) and then tell me the same thing. Methinks you need to learn to program sounds properly. The AN1X will probably sound terrible in your hands, too.
@Docipede there's some great advice on Jexus's site which I 100% agree with. He says regardless of what he thinks you yourself have to check out the base-sound of a synth and decide if you like it.
Each synth has its own base sound, which permeates all its patches. I personally am not keen on what I hear from the Ion/Micron/Miniak...to me, regardless of patch, it sounds thin and weak. Others might describe it as clean and crisp. Just different perceptions and tastes, innit.
@Decimator7 Just seen your channel and it appears that you are somewhat capable, but still, by no stretch of anyone's imagination is the miniak shit. Thinner, perhaps, but no way at all shit.
got it today. spend more than 7 hours tweaking it without a pause...didn't even eat anything today except for some bread ;)
definitely wasn't love on the first sight but after i'd managed to create my first quite authentic 101 lead and discovered the feedback funnction it definitely started to grew on me.
Btw, this is definitely not difficult to programme. i'd excepted it to be much worse after after reading all those reviews..got it down after quite a short time tweaking..
Now, is the AN1X better than the motif es 6 (rack)? Or does it have a totally different sound? I'm confused because the the AN1X is more than 10 years old and the Motif Es 6 has the same price.
This might be the most impressive replication of DCO era analog modeling ive heard from a VA synth, while still having it's own unique nasty sound. Definatly considering purchasing this or the cheaper AN200 desktop module.
AN1x is so versatile... I doubt there's a type of sound it couldn't generate well. It can sound PHAT or mellow if you want. Also built in effects sound great. If you tweak the patch properly, everything fits great in the mix. This piece of equipment motivates me so much. No VST can give you the feel/sound of a real synth.
One more thing, DON'T ASK JEXUS FOR PATCHES, MAKE YOUR F**KING OWN OR PLAY THAT VAN HALEN "JUMP" PATCH UNTIL YOU DIE! ;)
analog, digital....who cares? this thing sound like a monster....It's sad it can't be used properly by many people and the most of them do some cheap trance stuff on it.
The things that came out of this synth is partly a manifistation of your thoughts. The sound is I think 30-20% Instrument and 70-80% people's imagination what it sound like.
Olo. I have been watching your vids now for months. You have to be one of the best programmers out there. Why don;t you work for these companies. The problem is, that people here the word "synthesizer" and immediately relate it to their perception of what a synth should sound like. Classic sounds. You are changing that idea! please can you make your an1x sounds available for download??? I have the an1x editor and i crave these sounds! Id appreciate it. Thank you so much!
there super fat and i have 4 of them because there so damn good > even the effects hit top marks great eq super filters work very nice , you can make very nice analog songs
there just the bizz. an1x is the top all all digital synths for me. they just hit everything i want from a digital in the form of analog. there so close that when you program them right you cannot tell them apart . just an amazing synth. and forsure a classic that will only make more value in the future have value
Pretty cool sounds, I wish I'd never sold my AN1X. And yes Dreamfish you are right, a totally underrated VA, looks cheap and cheesy, but sounds like a real Vintage!
if you take the terrible filter and other paremeter knob´s aliasing as a part of the instrument´s charakter, this is one of the really greatest digital analog synths
it is such a symathetic, inspiring synth, and i am pretty sure to get another one within this year!
it was back then overshadowed by the nord 1 and the roland jp 8000, but this little toy is just a personality of it´s own! BUY IT AND LOVE IT !!!
Korg m1 and the yamaha an1x and you have the prefect rack - they complement each other M1-ambient, organ, strings, spacey, An1x - great synth, techo, electronica, korg has stick, An1x has the wheels -- you can bend solos either way (korg also has great snyth if youc na program and get cards) put this together and you got it ALL.
this has always been one heavily underrated synth.
i really love its sync and fm possibilities and as an owner of many real analogues i think it sounds quite analogue....and what is more, really interesting and unique.
any analog synthesizer would do the trick but here are some recommendations: Jupiter 8 (hehehe), Prophet 5, CS80, Oberheim, Fairlight (hehehe), ... and last but not least the minimoog !
Thanks for posting your video, from this I decided to buy one. It's on it's way! Some of the other videos from other people didn't really show off it's potential like you do here. $300 USD if anyone was curious what I got it for. That was a buy it now on ebay price.
For those looking for these AN1x sounds but don't want another keyboard, I suggest the Yamaha AN-200 (Loop Factory) which has the PLG150-AN card inside with these sounds. You won't have all the same knobs to 'tweak' (adjust), but with some effort they can be found.
If you put it in poly unison (low detune), turn up the feedback in conjunction with the VCO edge then drive the Aphex Exciter but turn down the top en on the EQ it sounds just as chunky as most analogues.
I dead seriously think that even though it was built a little cheap feeling, the AN1x is one of the top 3 most realistic and best sounding virtual analogs ever made. When you really get into it and program it, it sounds warmer and fatter than even the Nord Lead IMO.
Well, the good things is that the An1x can be had for a few hundred US dollars. For mine, I paid the equivalent of 1000 euros, but that was in 1998. Never regretted it once. I considered buying a second one when there were the blow-out sales, but it's like buying two cars: a bit useless.
very prophetic at the pads, then, typical jupiter8/4 sound at 4.50 and later.5.40 goes juno60 .amazing.
