And if a country is based off of one culture, then it is still, however much it may change with the advent of other cultures. I would never call Amon Amarth a viking metal band. I realise it is easy to be taken in by their long beards, great shiny cover arts with glorious hammers and storms etc. The music industry tells you it's more viking than anything else, the pretentious lyrics makes all clear. it's catchy, nice and very melodic. Now listening to melodic death metal with some 'viking' melodies makes you a viking metal fan, why to pay more attention to this genre? Fail

Amon Amarth is definately a viking metal band. pretty much every song (with a couple exceptions) is about the gods or viking battles etc.. and every member of the band is asatru, so they go out of their way to write good viking metal lyrics. another good one is Unleashed, but they do have a lot of songs that arent about vikings.
