In the 60's I went to protests, some of which I didn't even know the facts about. I was young, stupid and rebellious. During one event we were in a park after hours, the police told us to leave, we didn't and they came in swingin' clubs and many of us were hurt, some seriously. Yes, the police over-reacted but I share part of the blame for breaking existing laws and we never even considered neighbors of the park and their rights. I say, bring attention to a problem but follow the law. Peace. :-)
@profwaldo Me too, Wally. I went to some anti-war protests, but mostly stayed out of range and never experienced anything beyond a little CS or CN. We agree on obeying the law. I think these kinds of things happen because of poor training and poor leadership. I hope cooler heads prevail on both sides of the barricades.
There's payed agitators in these crowds working towards this type of outcome.
They want another Kent State, innocents will get hurt in the process. We all have complaints, whatever happened to peaceful daytime protests ? When the police tell you to disperse, you'd best take heed. Playin' with fire, you're bound to get burned. These protestors need to get their shit together, it ain't a game man. Having said that, police need to practice restraint also. I hope the dude is okay. Good song !
@profwaldo We disagree on the paid agitators issue. I've heard the hate radio guys say it, but I haven't seen proof. You are 100% correct: everyone needs to calm down and practice plain old good manners. Don't throw things at the police, and police need to take a deep breath and use non-lethal weapons the way they are supposed to (there are specific ways, and shooting at people's heads is not one of them).
@RonIrelandmusic There is proof people are being paid. Violence, vandalism, intimidation, disturbing the peace, occupation and disruption of other's everyday lives is right out of extreme far-left and union playbooks. There will be more violence, they guarantee it. It's ironic that Obama backs the protests yet continues to take donations from Wall Street corporations he bailed out and demonizes. But he needs a distraction and a scapegoat. Not to mention he loves a good class-warfare fight. Peace
@profwaldo I think we simply disagree on this one, Wally. As for corporate donations: I like the idea of making ALL of our elected officials wear NASCAR suits with the logos of the banks and hedge funds and other corporations that gave them money to get elected.
@RonIrelandmusic Don't get me wrong, I agree that many things need to change and it's always good to see and hear people speak out. I just don't agree with the tactics being used and I think the anger should be directed at the White House and Congress(both parties) I'm for term limits on most all elected officials. I absolutely love the idea of logos on their suits ! hahaha Seriously, candidates should all get the same amount of money to run on, lets say 20 bucks. Have a great week Ron ! Peace.
@profwaldo I agree absolutely about term limits and the 20 bucks! Great idea. Thank you for the conversation, Wally. I always enjoy corresponding with you.
excellently written , a very sad situation, and beautifully performed Ron! somehow i missed the coverage of this, i have to honestly admit that there is so much disturbing chaos going on in the world...and it just seems to get crazier all the time!
@nllleonard We have, Nancy. It reminds me so much of Chicago, Berkeley, Kent State, Birmingham, and on and on. I hope it raises enough questions that our civic leaders calm down and stop putting police in lose-lose situations, and putting citizens in danger when they are only using the rights granted by the U.S. Constitution. Thank you for listening!
I'm glad that you have made a song for this Ron. Oakland police have a long shameful history of violence against the people. The time for change is upon us.
@archtopbrownie Hi, Lance. I heading for bed right now. I stayed up to watch the Cardinals game, and work on another song. I don't have a skype account. I just sent you a FB friend request. Have a good night/morning. You're keeping musician's hours!
