If Ford had bothered to update the Ranger in the last decade I might have bought one. @edlvsgng I just like smaller and more nimble vehicles. The lightest F-150 weighs 4700 lbs and the version everyone buys weighs over 5000lbs. New Tacos are porkier now but mine tips the scales at 2750lbs. Why drive around with 2000+ extra pounds and all that extra length and girth when I don't need it?

@edlvsgng I don't tow much either but I have managed to tow @6200lbs GCVWR from MI to UT through the Rockies while getting about 17 mpg average still from this little thing. I used to have 4wd's and off road a lot and smaller is always better for the type of trails I used to run.

@edlvsgng The new ecoboost engine Ford has is amazing but it's a waste stuffed into the giant carcass of an F-150. The performance and MPG numbers from that engine in an updated Ranger would have been amazing and I would have bought one in a second.

I pulled a 19 year old kid out of a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 this morning on Hwy 321 Granite Falls NC. He hit a guard rail square at 60 mph, cut the truck in half and rolled 75 feed down a hill into a creek. Despite all of that he had a small cut above his right eye. That's it. God bless Toyota and by the way I have a 1997 and will soon be upgrading to a 2007. P.S. Loved the way you stayed in good spirits just after your run in with the tree. Be safe out there.

i put my tacoma in a 8ft ditch last winter on a icy road doing maybe 10mph and the air bag went off... ruined my night to say the least... just depends where the impact is tho, as to if the airbags go off or not... saved you around a grand tho by not going off

no... i crashed my ranger offroad into a tree and they didnt go off. but i dont think i was going that fast. a just had to replace the left lights, fender, and bend the bumber back. how fast were you going?

not very fast sub 20mph but I was still on the throttle I think trying to get it to slide past. I missed the crash bar which goes between the frame rails so all the force went into the fender and fender apron until the suspension stopped it. If I would have hit the crash bar there would have been way less damage.

My frame failed the rust recall and I am getting a whole new frame installed.  Too bad it wasn't rusty enough to fail right after this accident. Oh well nice to have a spiffy new frame

Reason 1. Beer. Reason 2. It was really muddy and the "plan" was to slide to the right of the tree then pivot around the tree and make a left turn. Right before I got to the tree I caught a rut or something and instead of sliding past it I took an unexpected hop right towards the tree. You can hear me exclaim something like "Doh!" when this happens and I try to correct it but It is comically too late to do anything and blammo Taco meets tree.

Yep it did. New core support, fender apron, fender, headlight, grill, hood, frame straightened, new brake booster (the fender apron smacked the end of the master cylinder and crushed the booster leaving the brakes stuck on all the time), A arm, new rim and it's back to the way it was except the ghetto primer color body panels I am too lazy/broke to paint.
