  • I thought it was 'I before E, except after C - but only if it rhymes with E' in which case, Stephen Fry's argument is invalid. Except for 'species'.

  • I'm looking for the ones I'm looking for

  • I've been annoying the crap about of people by constantly saying ceiling when theres an awkward silence :3

  • Durple? Vurple? Thurple?

  • Lee Mack really is that stupid.

  • 1:58 LOL

  • ahahahaha hahaha ahah aha ha ha. huh ceiling

  • ''Are you incapable of rational thought!'' hahahah

  • He's had so much practice annoying David Mitchell.

  • The rule is actually: i before e, except after c (when the pronunciation is long 'ee'.

So, alas for Stephen, the Qi researchers have misquoted the rule here ...

    :)

  • @flygweilo species has a long E.

  • @flygweilo what do you mean long "ee", i was always told when the sound is not "ee" but every time i mentioned this in school, no one believed me

  • Everyone loves Lee Mack!!!!

  • haha i love lee Macks humour, he's so obviously winding stephen fry up about the rule, to the audience's delight. i remember from this episode that stephen acctually apologises to lee later for the attitude

  • @alex6734 Finally someone who gets that Mack was winding Fry up.

  • @FlumblesMum I think he is genuinely confused at first, but cottons on around 1:10. That's where he starts winding him up.

  • @kisbie

Yes I agree. Anyone who thinks he is joking the whole time cannot read people very well. It was quite an idiotic thing to not be able to grasp more quickly, but we can all betray our true intelligence from time to time... The way he keeps it going for quite so long as a cover for his stupidity messes up his otherwise good attempt at redeeming himself.

  • @SingularSuperNinja Stephen really snaps when Lee gets genuinely confused after words wihtout a C (but with an E-I, thereby defying the 'rule') pop up on screen. One good thing about QI though is that it does prove that intelligence differs from person to person. It's ridiculous to say any of the panellists are thick or 'not worthy' of the show. They wouldn't be there in the first place if they were.

  • @SingularSuperNinja Let's not forget also that working class comics like Lee often come from a background where masking your smarts and cultural curiosity is a good survival tactic.

  • @SingularSuperNinja Lee's a very witty person, from his live DVD's and from his time as a captain on Would I lie to You, you can tell that. The sort of person he is too, leads me to believe that he would do that. My dad for instance would do that, deliberately to annoy you. Also, talking of stupidity, you used an ellipse incorrectly '...' is used for quotes when taking out certain bits of a quote e.g 'I am... stupid' it's used to change quotes into something they're not or to shorten them.

  • Such a joy to see the wonderful Fry berating the useless Mack for his unrepentant idiocy

  • @Dreddhead89a Yeah even if he was winding Fry up I still think he's a prick whatever he's saying, second only to Sean Lock

  • @chrish12345 Your an idiot, Lee Mack is hallarious
