what would be a good choice to get this tone in a usable setting, like 30 watts. I have played and like this amp but need a head that is more my volume. I have a Dr. Z Route 66 but it's voiced a little strange I think, would like to explore more options
@MrSandydillon First, there is no PCB in the Hendrix Marshall stack. It's hand-wired, turret board construction. Second, what the hell is this shit, you ask? What the hell do you think it is? It's an amp demo, you fuckin' moron.
our national football squad has just lost to armenia 4 to 0 I just wanted to bring back my will to live su I wanted to hear that guitar sound ... Now I have reason to live :)
The first thing i would want to do 2:06 when plugged into a Marshall full stack, 100 watts, non master volume... mmm... i that sound is just sheer pleasure to my ears.
The 50 watt plexi sounds better anyway.. Kind of a waste to get the full stuck unless your jam space is a hall. I have a 100 watt fender twin amp and I can't even put it to 7 things fall off the walls at about 5
@brakspbfun I have gigged with a Fender Twin on 1 before . . . not kidding, there at least 400 people in the audience and i filled the place, i think those amps are underrated at 100-watts, its more like 200-watts with the master on 10. My Mesa 50-cal had to have the master on 10 to get the volume i want thus giving no clean headroom and lacking clarity. The lesson i learned? Its better to be overpowered than underpowered. More volume just feels better too.
you are using using hyperbole, right? a fender twin, or any amp is designed to put out the amount of power, dependent on the tubes used. the 4 tubes in a twin or 100jh can only put out the specified 100 watts. the loudness, or SPL, you perceive is based on the number or type (efficiency; in db) of speakers used.
Listen to how it's distorting the recording mic. That amp is loud as hell! I have a 50-watt 1976 head that would kill small children from 100 yards as well as a 100 watt JCM 2000 that will sterilize cattle.
Hi, I bought a $6000 amp and I don't sound like Hendrix, will anyone tell me why?
@hacker506 yeah, you need to been born in seattle, then join the army, play guitar once in a while, listen to BB King, Albert and everyone in the back 50-60's, join the Little Richard band, go to new york and wait until that Linda see you in that cheap circuit... if you want you can try to win the guitar contest at broadway, but that just gonna give you $200 to get some ladies, enjoy your aids.
P fuck'n U! Get someone who is decent to demonstrate the amp. Who the Hell would the amp after that demonstration? I think I will buy a Mesa or some shit.
@13Musicmachine To be 100% correct, he played 10-38 Fender Rock n' Roll strings most of the time... But mufc0794 is wrong about hendrix, but right about Ray Vaughan. He used 13-56 or something like that :)
@Shiiheadbrett lol, thats just the way old amps are, youd have to crank the shit out of them to get any gain. nowadays gain knob on 1 is more than most of these amps had.....not that it sounds better tho. you'll never beat an old marshall :D
@etabone1 that comment was directed to the person that said that REAL strat players play with heavy strings i didnt mean it as you cant play good without light strings but the players that play bluesy like jimi hendrix eric clapton and bob dylan ..... play with light strings and im sure srv used light strings too but he did strum alot harder than alot of the players ^ i mentioned so idk about him
@bubbah12345 SRV used .13 strings. but i bet what he meant is that for the real deal blues tone u do need a heavier gauge string, .9's wont cut it, i use .10's so i cant really say that i use heavy strings either, but for blues playing like hendrix or srv u do need heavy gauge strings or used to need
hendrix used a top e for a b string and used light strings, at least thats what ive read but i didnt really ask him in person idc tho just read up on the strings he used and you may be surprised
@bubbah12345 i didn't mean hendrix himself but the style hendrix and people like Stevie Ray play, in general i think its pretty much the norm to play with a heavier sided gauge than a litter one
@Speedoman1978 aren't u people getting me, im not saying like exactly hendrix but the style he played, most blues players will usually use, a heavier gauge, thats all im trying to say.
@brooscaar The Gear plays a large part in the Tone make up of any Signature sound. Sure, knowing how to bend, and execute the notes in a similar manner to the artist you are trying to copy is largely important in duplicating the sound. However, you are not going to sound like Randy Rhoads playing a Strat through Roland JC. Sorry Brooscar. The Gear as even Hendrix explained PLAYS a Significant Part in replicating the Tone you're after. Single Coils add a Hendrix Element/ dimension that Nails it.
I have an original '71 JMP. Very, very similar to what Jimi used. The problem when using Hot Plates is that you do lose some tone. The Hot Plate itself doesn't change the tone, it's the speakers. Gotta remember that Celestion speakers sound best when the cone is bouncing around...and that takes volume. The only want to get Plexi/JMP to get that creamy sound is to crank it up (unfortunately). Greenback speakers need to get pushed.
Yes, JH moved to JMPs later in his career. I do agree Celestions does require punishment to sound their best. I'm running a 50W amp into a 212 w. M-greenies and God only knows for how long they will last... EL34s can produce creamier sound than KT66s too, I find, which break up more agressively and don't compress as much.
Seriously, once you are at playing at higher volumes with a band or drummer and you can't tell that the difference between a high quality amplifier and something pretending to be the real thing.....well, please, for the love of Leo Fender, Jim Marshall, and all things holy, by all means KEEP YOUR AMP IN YOUR BEDROOM BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!
Are they still making them? I think the output tubes they are using in there are KT66 s? I have a Major stack KT88 s with G12H 25 watt greenbacks. the coils where made with paper so when they got really hot they would go on fire LOL I Think thats why a lot of people started ramming the guitar into the grill cloth. enjoyed your video. Thanks ;-)
The "Plexi" setting on my Peavy Vyper, which allegedly models the Marshall, produces a flat dropping sound with almost a reverse sustain?? i.e. the notes seem to be pushed back???Is this how Marshalls sound on low volume with no gain or effects??
No, the 15000 is a clone made by other manufacturer. Don't remember whether it had the JTM or JMP circuit, now, but the JTM circuit one had a single OT whereas the JH has two.
Hendrix and Clapton used it but it was Townshend that was impetus for creating this amp. He was the first to start stacking his amps (using Marshall cabs and a Fender head) until Marshall created the JTM 45/100 for he and Entwistle. Townshend liked the speakers being at the same level as the guitar whereas the majority of his generation of guitarists had their amps on the floor at that time.
I'd be so shittn my pants crankin that amp... I have the 50w plexi re-issue and its a loud mofo through one 4x12 box already lol this is a pretty cool demo actually
It may be of interest for those watching this clip if you cared to elaborate on this statement of yours. ;) If Murfdog19 above is anywhere near the truth the guy in the clip knows one or two things we most likely don't.
He always had the amp set at "breakup", meaning that hitting all the 6 strings at once causes it to overdrive, but one string at a time = pretty clean.
in the studio, pretty clean, but on stage it was pretty much ALWAYS overdriven. as loud as these amps are, hendrix was known to push them as far as they'd go.
Great amp, the problem is... They priced it close to what you can get the originals for. So, if a person has a lot of dough to throw at an amp, which one do you think they'll get? I would pay the little extra and get the real thing which will only go up in value.
@Carthsgtr nothing comes easy my friend you have to work for..... just ask the greats, hendrix and vaughan can sound amazing through an epiphone special and a line 6
@Carthsgtr yes its true. i have a marshall jcm200 tsl with a 1960a lead cab and it makes a big difference. if you where okay, on a high end marshall head and cab you sound so much better.
he's banging the shit out of that guitar. I do the same thing haha. The finish lasts a couple of months after I buy it then it starts getting that "I beat the shit out of my guiars" look.
ye, adds clearence to the tone, treble but makes it kinda cripsper. and adding a gain knob would be retarded. youd have to add a master to that, and simply put, it wouldnt be signator, nor would it sound nearly as good.
what would be a good choice to get this tone in a usable setting, like 30 watts. I have played and like this amp but need a head that is more my volume. I have a Dr. Z Route 66 but it's voiced a little strange I think, would like to explore more options

he's banging the shit out of that guitar. I do the same thing haha. The finish lasts a couple of months after I buy it then it starts getting that "I beat the shit out of my guiars" look.

I would give an arm to play that.
alexledzepguy 3 years ago 2
that'd be a problem seeing as you'd only have one arm to play guitar with then.

Ah well, ill give a leg then.

what does presence do? and i think they should've added one more knob for gain.(not that its not good enough already)
ruffles272 3 years ago
the volume nob is gain
bubbabellums 3 years ago
ye, adds clearence to the tone, treble but makes it kinda cripsper. and adding a gain knob would be retarded. youd have to add a master to that, and simply put, it wouldnt be signator, nor would it sound nearly as good.
wareaglebabe11 3 years ago
Fender Strat + That Hendrix Marshall Sig + Dunlop Cry baby + Fuzzface = PERFECT TONE.
