We do train our dogs to work on one side of the handler, although some dogs learn to work on either side. However, the zoo is a very challenging outing for dogs, with all of the strange animals and smells. For most of our dogs, this was their first experience at a zoo. On this outing, we focused on loose leash walking and staying calm around all of the animals.
I really hope these dogs are soon trained to stay more at the side of their handler... Even though they are in training, it looks like they are allowed to move all over the place and go to either side of the handler... that gets confusing for the dog.
