Another band I used to listen to on the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree while growing up in Toronto in the 50's. Jesse was the first to perfect the cross-picking style of playing on the mandolin. A great inovator. They sure are missed,
Banjo player is Garland Shuping. Jesse is a legend on mandolin no doubt. He was, and still is, so much more advanced on his knowledge of the mandolin. He is a first generation guy. The only other mandolin player when he started was Bill Monroe. Jesse certainly carved out his own path, and cannot be duplicated.
Garland was "groundbreaking" with his picking till the end.
I grew up with him picking with my father and took lessons from him for a couple of years. A great banjo player!
