  • Great video, my door is locked closed, any advice on how to get the lock out to replace it please. Thankyou

  • @66jph

There are a few techniques but I have never tried any of them. Just search for lock bumping or lock snapping and it should show a few methods. I do not know which one works though!

  • @ultimatehandyman

thanks for that. I have watched the videos you recomended but I am worried about damaging the door. Can the lock be drilled out. Funny thing is I am a cabinet maker but have never used these locks or upvc doors, just wood.

  • @66jph

I have heard that you can drill directly below the key hole, which drills out the pins and enables you to turn the latch but I have never tried it, sorry I can't be more help

  • This was a excellent video, I have just replaced my lock as emergency took place did this in a few minutes. Excellent

    Thanks

  • @khanijan1

  • thanks, managed to get cylinder out got the measurements looking for a quality cylinder as so many out there.

  • @azz6014 ...Changed mine this morning, there are 2 different sizes a 35 and a 40 mine was smaller of the 2 at 35.Ended up going to B+Q which cost me £15.00 it even came with 3 keys so not to bad.

I hate to think what a locksmith would of charged me!!...

  • you make it look so easy,i can not get the cylinder out, it seems to get stuck, like its catching on something.tried turing key still stuck any help would be welcome

  • @azz6014

I have never had the same problem to be honest. Are you certain that the retaining screw has been removed?

Have you tried turning the key and moving the handle at the same time?

  • what to do if the fool who lived in the house before you has take the head of the screw?

  • @cdbils001

You can try a screw remover/extractor. You might get it with one of those!

  • the head of screw holding the lock in place has rounded,is there an easy method to remove the worn screw...

  • @ianrawson2

You could try a screw extractor, such as the JML screw extractor.

If you check out my other videos you will see it in use.

  • @HulkCH

    You are welcome.

I'm glad that it helped you ;-)

  • Big help thanks, you saved me a packet! However I had some trouble getting the cylinder out as one or two interior flanges on the inside of the PVC door were slightly blocking the removal

I had to cut a bit with a stanley knife and use a file.

I also noticed when removing and replacing the cylinder and make sure the locking pin was flush with the sides of the cylinder I had to turn the key slightly to the right.

  • @lffit

Glad you got it sorted in the end!

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • what if you have not got the key?

  • @zoewho38

Probably a job for a locksmith

  • Glad that it helped you! I try and talk when doing Videos, but sometimes It is not possible due to background noise, so sorry there was no commentary as well.
