3)he used something like a crowbar to open two tanks before finding the third that worked ( it didn't require keys to drive)

Imagine a tank rampage with a full crew inside of a fully-loaded, fueled-up M1A2 Abrams SEP. :P Talk about utterly unstoppable.

I believe it takes a crew to operate the cannon mechanism, including loading and firing. Even if this tank were loaded, the driver probably couldn't fire any shells. If he could've, I'm sure those police would've backed off. O.o

Nor can I find much direct information regarding the thickness and composition of an M1A2 Abrams tank's hatch and surrounding, flat surface area... Especially given the "top-secret" nature of such specifications. I can't calculate whether or not an inert bomb could do anything.

Given the amount of ammunition an Abrams tank can store, I doubt it'd run out of ammunition before eventually running out of fuel. As for a modern AT system, I doubt any police officers on hand would be using anti-tank missiles. -.-' In a likely scenario, it'd run out of fuel before anything. Abrams tanks aren't efficient.

As for an airstrike... I doubt the military would use a full-blown airstrike in the middle of a city. O.o

@WassimSp - I don't think they LET him steal it, but they most certainly didn't have proper security where the tank was stolen from. Once he got in that tank, there wasn't a whole lot that one guy working in the armory lot is going to be able to do to get him out. As it was, the police had to wait for the right opportunity to make their move, which they did. He had a drug problem with meth (per his brother) and I believe he was strung out on meth at the time of the rampage.
