  • I remember this storm. The wind was stronger than any wind I had experienced prior. I went to the basement with my little brother with my aunt, we had no idea what could happen next. Thankfully, only trees and branches were down everywhere. I remember this storm well because it was on my birthday. I actually like severe weather so I thought it was a nice thrilling treat from nature. :D

  • wow strange shape

  • whats the light behind the storm?

  • Comment removed

  • when clouds have a yellow belly that means there is a big chance of a tornado.........

  • Your gonna need an F-15 or F-16...

  • Wow

  • Wow... That would have been awesome to see in person. x3

  • Wow... from what I remember at 0:43 that's a shelf cloud? Or a wall cloud?

  • @sushi064 Wall cloud

  • @sushi064 well actually its called an RFD or Rear Flank Downdraft, that means the cell itself is rotating, its what happens when 2 pressure systems hit one another, one low and high pressure system, High pressure contains cold air while low contains hot, because the L is rotation counterclockwise and the H is rotationg clockwise, one has alot of saturation probably off the great lakes because they are at Chicago, when both pressure and temps mix together, you get alot of fun...

  • @DeadTallyNo9 You need to do some reading up on meteorology and severe storms No9. You got the rotation bit right so that gives you 1 out of 7.

  • Megagangsta...nice grammar. I too live in Chicago and you must not recall the tornado of 2008 at Wrigley Field.

  • There ain't no tornadoes at chicago I live there

  • @MegaGansta24 * There were 86 significant tornadoes between 1855 and 2002

    * The deadliest tornado occurred on April 21 1967 during an outbreak of 5 significant tornadoes. This tornado formed in Palos Hills in Cook county and traveled through Oak Lawn and the south side of Chicago. 33 people died * The only F5 tornado in the Chicago area was on August 28 1990. This tornado formed near Oswego and passed through Plainfield and Joliet (a 16 mile path). The tornado killed 29, and injured 350.

  • @ShadowBlasko really??? oh and now we have a huge blizzard idk if you heard but its like 6 feet high!

  • wooo I wouldn't fly in that weather dangggggggggggggg.........

  • Green sky means TORNADO!!!

  • @96zacko its chicago, no twisters , not with that topography.... sorry to disappoint bro :/

  • @96zacko

    Hail anyway...

  • You think this is bad weather, we ain't seen nothing yet......wait til late 2011, and more so in 2012. It's gonna get WICKED....

  • @TimidFury ur fucking retarded 2012 is not true

  • @TimidFury idiot

  • sweet :D i wish i was there i love bad weather!!!!!!

  • at 1:40 it looks like a evil green eyes looking at the camera then he says "looks like something mystical" hahaha cool

  • @anthonygerman420 i think he says "looks like something biblical" look @2:00, it's a face

  • Ah, that was a funnel....and a tornado......

  • awsome....do u work for the airline?

  • i love sitting in my house beside the window closed..... at night and see the street lights while its raining and drinking somthing hot and watching outside the rain and just sitting there woooow i really love that

  • That is awesome! I used to see some really intense formations over Omaha. Sometimes the thunder was so loud, it wuold literally crack glass.

  • God, I LOVE severe weather!!

  • @ilovetogofast88 Yeahh!! So do I!!!

  • Also, that shelf cloud is developing rapidly towards the right end where this individual was often recording - this suggests some rapid inflow winds taking place, which could also signal tornadic development. It's a little difficult to spot any distinctive rotation along the shelf cloud, though.

    ~Trav.~

  • Excellent footage. I spotted the green hue near the beginning of the video, which often signals possible tornadic activity. I'm not exactly certain, though, as to what is responsible for the coloring - it may be attributed to shorter wavelength colors of visible light being rendered visible somehow, but then again the sun would have to be lower in the sky and at least somewhat visible for that to occur. Other explanations propose vegetation reflectivity, but that's not the case here.

  • The Tornado didn"t touch down because I live in chicago

  • At 2:41 theres a plane taxiing in the back! I hope it just landed!

  • WTF!!!!! thats some scary shit!!

  • 0:49 giant ass crack cloud from scary movie 4.

  • im scared

  • dude thats a shelf cloud

  • OMFG ITS A TORNADO!!

  • this gonna be on CNN !

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • that happened to me in new orleans, the clouds were green and dark, what does that mean?

  • some times it means that a tornadeo is coming i think, not sure i heard it on the weather channel when i was in the us.

  • yes if its green a tornado is coming but idk think they show in chicago

  • Wow! What time of the day was this?

  • is she stupid or what????

  • awesome video (lol) I don't know if I'd have the hutspa to sit and tape XD I'm usually under a table hiding in fear when I think a tornado's coming x3

  • lol, same here

  • It amazes me that you still get people at airports demanding that their plane takes off anyway cos they have a meeting to get to or something.

  • Well, you can expect all the flights at that airport were cancelled! lol

  • lol tornado... but awesome

  • was that really a tornado

  • no it was not a tornado it was the formation of a tornado give it another couple minutes and you would have some damage

  • looks like a shelf cloud to me

  • Um we have a promblem we need to make a crash landing

  • American 501 you are cleared to takeoff, caution wake turbulance developing tornado.

  • lol

  • Wow, could you imagine what it would be like for Chicago to have a tornado...such a HUGE city! Great video!

  • wat if a tornado touches

wat do they do with the planes?

they are not goin to let the planes get destroyed right?

  • eh, im not sure what they do commercially, but at PWK general aviation, we literally shove everything in the hangars and pack them as full as we can get.

  • Wow thats awsome

  • thats fucked

  • did a tornado touch down?

  • Was there a Tornado Warning issued for the airport area

  • it's not a funnel cloud...it's a shelf cloud

  • I saw my first funnel cloud that day in Carol Stream. The lightning, rain and hail was intense.

  • Wasn't that the day where they evacuated the pax to the tunnels connecting the Hilton and told all of us(FAs) to get out ***s to SW?

  • very normal.but quiet normal...daya fter which "tomorrow"? 2014 decmebr,22.? *hii*

  • yes

  • Any plane up there at that time was asking for a windshear event.

  • It's like.. "the day after tomorrow"!!

  • thats freaky

  • pretty cool

  • holy shit nice footage.

  • was there a ground stop?

  • That looks to be more of a shelf cloud, though the first formations made it look like one of those "side-winder" formations in what appeared to be a funnel cloud. The gust front was certainly prevalent as the storm advanced.

    ~Trav.~

  • A previous poster nailed it. It looks like either a roll cloud or shelf cloud. Bad news either way. Big time winds (usually over 50 mph..sometimes over 100 mph).

These types of clouds are usually associated with the leading edge of a fast moving squall line or Derecho type system.

  • wow that is crasy

  • I mean it

  • They canceled flights in that place, didn't they? BTW, that was fucking freaky.

  • didn't they evacuate the control tower?

  • thats scary i wudnt wanna fly in that weather

  • FREAKIEST weather ever. xD

  • Wow, nice footage. The camera doesnt capture it very well but that color green that the clouds turn that he's talking about... once you've seen it you'll never forget how fuckin scary that looks.

  • those clouds were moving very fast look at 2:20 to the end around, just to see how fast the clouds were.

  • Bloody awesome!! You did a great job of capturing it - both the big picture and what it was like to be standing there under it.

  • Sorry to say that was not a funnel cloud. It's either a shelf cloud or a roll cloud.

  • it was a short lived, almost horizontal funnel cloud. They don't always point straight down. It is not uncommon with shelf clouds to have funnel clouds form in them, but very rarely if ever do they touch down.

  • Well. Gotta board my flight

  • its normal here in our country every week we experience much more like that, the clouds is so dark and it rains so heavy with isolated thunderstorm..

  • i was just north of here when this happend

  • Very bad weather, I suppose that that is O-hare Intl and also that it was closed during that moment, right?

  • looks very bad weather

  • Where was this?

  • I have never seen such dark skies before, and I hope I never will. I would be terrified If I saw those clouds.

  • Yes. It was a funnel cloud. No question.

  • that was crazy

  • i remember that day

  • I cant believe this wetaher
