  • Lovely! As one who has sung this aria many a times as a baritone, I can attest to its difficulty. Your garage's acoustics are better than most concert halls. For being self-taught, it's very nice - my only critique is that you need to watch your attacks at the beginning of your phrases so you're not scooping onto the pitch.; otherwise, it was one of the most enjoyable performances on youtube!

  • this song is already killing me!!! I have to sing this for my voice class/performanc lab.....ugh!

  • Really Beautiful, Ty you have really a great voice, you are a natural countertenor this is nor falsetto is head and chest voice (in this more Head) and this is not falsetto, awesome, congratulations!!

    Magros.

  • AMAZING I need help on picking an italian piece for my college auditions this year. I need it to be like a sad one, like this or o cessate di Piagarmi. It has to contrast from my Little Heart and Die Forelle. :)

  • I think you're wonderful!!

I do a small youtube contest on this Aria tomorrow, as part of a lecture about classical singing, i don't know if my class will pick you as a winner, but I'm quite sure you'll be one of the tops.. you are great.

I'd like to know some details if that's ok: what is your name? where do you live? When did you start to sing?

  • Thank you for honoring me by including me in your contest! My name is Ty, and I live in south-central Pennsylvania in the United States. I have been singing practically all of my life. My mother tells me that, at the age of two, I would sing for hours, using nonsense words if I did not know the real ones. I am almost completely self-taught, having had a only few month's worth of voice lessons as a Freshman in college in 1974. Thank you again for the honor.

  • Omg, I am studying from this same book and I am just blown away! I have to share this with my Italian/English diction class and with my voice teacher. I love, love, triple love it... and I am a bit jealous by the ease with which you perform all of your pieces.

  • BUMP!!!

Your versions should always be on the front page. They are crystal clear in tonality.

  • I love your trills--I'm very envious! It does seem like head voice at least some of the time, btw.

  • this is my nyssma song for this year =]

  • I actually really really really liked this video. OMG u would totally take my job away. lol anyway I was really expecting u to sing it in a male voice but to my surprise ur a counter tenor lol and im not making fun of u it just surprised me. Anyway Im learning this song right now for college auditions and well ya its hard. Im also doing Se Tu M'ami Caro Mio Ben and Oh Had I jubal's lyre.

U should learn Oh Had I jubals Lyre it be cool seing a dude singing this. Awesome job though I loved ur vid.

  • What ever it is labeled, it is wonderful. You give sopranos a run for their money!

  • are you a counter-tenor?

  • That is a very debatable point. Some would say that since I sing in falsetto and not full voice, I should really call myself a male alto, although the term "countertenor" is becoming more nebulous these days. Thanks for listening!

  • I am not so convinced that you are solely using falsetto. Sounds like it might be head voice. On the higher notes especially, I don't think it is falsetto.

  • Wow! I am running out of words! Fantastic...

  • This is one of my favorite art songs from that book... Nice "liete." I'm not sure why you set the tempo so slow though? You want your phrases to be smoother--one running into the other. "O del mio dolce" should be "sung" in order to get to "ardor." "Ardor" is the drive behind every aspect of the aria. You don't necessarily have to take it very fast to accomplish this; however, your phrasing is a little choppy. Also, watch your double Italian consonant in "petto," because "peto" means "fart."

  • And this is just a suggestion, but perhaps (if you don't already?) you may want to get your interpretation translations from another source-the ones in that Schirmer book are really off. I don't really see much interpretation coming through, but if you comb through the text and express the passion of the aria through your voice, it would be that much more enjoyable to hear. One last interpretation suggestion: the "Ah!" should be sung as an expression of feeling, instead of "Okay, here comes AH!"

  • And I noticed that when you breathe, your shoulders shrug :) Loosen up your shoulders, and you'll be able to support better. If you don't feel the air reach down to your pelvis, you aren't fully supporting; that may be the cause for your shoulders rising.

(WHOO! Long comment!) Hope this helps.

  • Oh my lord-- I did this solo for All-State last year and I believe you performed it better here than I did- and I got a 99..

Where you have the framata and the run though- you should make it as if a tear were about to fall there.. Start off building strong and the back of almost to nothing until the fall of the run- and the tear wher you crescendo on the way down to give a little more emotion in your presentation. Wonderful job though. =)

  • Wow, one of the most beautiful countertenor voices I've heard in a long while (and I'm an opera major in my master's program with two countertenors in the program!) Nice work walker :)

  • you need to sing in your mask!and no glottal scoops, those will kill your head voice fast!

  • Thanks for your excellent advice! I have taken what you have said very seriously and I hope to do better in the future!

  • is he lipsyncing?

  • mvconnelly has said it so well - believe every word. One of the best I have ever heard as well - exquisite - a musical jewel.

  • I think technically if he's singing falsetto he's singing male alto. Countertenor means that your voice is actually that high. BUt I tend to agree thatmen can sing high if they do it well, which he obviously does. And he looks very manly, so I wouldn't be dissin.

  • I've been trying to convince my music teacher to let me perform this countertenor this year for districts and state music festival. She is against the whole countertenor thing. I don't think she understands that these songs were originally intended for male altos. But that was really great. I can sing in the range with no problem. ALl the way up to a soprano C. But I'm sure that acheiving that kind of tone will take some work. Nice work sir!

  • Fantastic!

Great voice, you are one of the better Countertenors I have heard ;)

I love your vibrato! So pretty.

  • wow I sang this song for a competition last week and i also sang pur dicesti which i saw your video for a few min. ago. you are great! you make everything sound so easy! you have a very sweet voice!

    greeting!

and congratulations, yor voice is so sweet

this is better but keep studing

  • Once in a while on this thing, your pleasantly suprised. This is one such case.

Sir, you bring an intelligence to the music, your respectful of the period, your embellishments are not only creative, but absolutley approperiate and in the style. The voice is beautiful and the musicality you bring to each piece, so clearly demonstrated. A fine, fine, fine job. One of the best I've ever heard.

  • Thank you so much for the kind words. It is really an inspiration when someone takes the time to comment in such an encouraging fashion that confirms for me that maybe I am on the right path with intrepreting these magnificent arias. Not being schooled in performance, I frequently wonder whether the ornaments I "feel" are the appropriate ones. You have given me the courage to post more. Thank you again!

  • I second that comment!

  • nice.

  • You are very good. I like how u can go high.

  • Are you a professional musician or do you just do this for fun???

  • I have had very little formal training (about four months' of voice lessons as a Freshman in college). I am an avid amateur with a passion for baroque music in particular and have been singing countertenor since high school thirty-four years ago.

  • can you do some german pieces? please?
