Are these sparkle, or regular root beer burst? We just ordered a set of regular, wondering what the exact finish will be since they didn't have one in the shop.
hey do you think the DR-80 would be confortable supporting three mount toms. I have a 7-piece and wanted to know if this rack would be able to accomadate a bigger kit
what do you think of this rack? are the clamps unoversal enough to fit pretty much any size cymbal arms or tom arms? i use a ludwig kit that has tom mounts similar to the ones I see on your kit, just want to make sure it is no problem using those instead of the tubes pearl uses.
oh. ok thanks. it was just cause you said only pearl or gilbraltar. well, i looked em up, and they said 7/8'' are perfect fit and they go a little smaller or a little larger. i measured mine and they are all around there so i should be good. thanks for all the info!
nice kit, i have a saturn myself, mine is green though. its a very nice kit. im looking into this rack(the pearl dr-80) but i dont quite understand how to put toms onto it, is it ok if you post a video of you showing how to put a tom on the rack or something. it would be very helpful. thanks
Hey BOOMER8700! I wanted to get the DR-80 rack, but I wanted to know what you use or reccomend for the the mounting harware such as the cymbal arms, tom arm holders, and clamps. thank man
HeyBad, the Dr-80 id a very functional rack and it sets up very quickly. The clamps for the DR-80 will accept only 7/8" posts. So, you'll need to make sure your booms and holders are that dimnesion. Naturally, Pearl's will fit, but I used the standard Gibraltar hardware an it works like a charm.
The heads are the stock Emporer and the resos are Ambassadors. I've tried Pinstripes, coated G2 and coated EC2s with the kit and I like the stock heads best. I've yet to try a single ply head.
I really need to know what tom-holders you use here, because i have the same rack and a Mapex set, but the tom-holders I bought does not fit the clamps... they are to thin....
Hey drumbum, the DRS80 is a very inexpensive rack, but it more than adequate to hold my 6-piece kit and 5 or 6 cymbals. I've not had a single issue with it's atability. I also have a Gibraltar rack but I prefer the Pearsl because it folds up quicker and easier than the Gib.
I'm confused about rack clamps and their compatability.I have mapex m birch series and want to get rack to hold my 8,10,12,13" toms so any help here would be great
Awesome Kit. Is that a carbon fibre rack? I Love my own Mapex Saturns. I'd Love a rack to go with it. You'll Love them too. Hard not to play them.....
Someone respond to this!!!! How are the toms clamped on to the holders? Do they go into the drums or make a different sound? SOmebody please answer me. If it sounds bad, I won't buy these. Otherwise I will.
The toms are mounted to the clamps via Mapex's isolation system. The tom holders do not protrude into the shell.
You can check out my "Mapex Saturn Sound Check" to listen to the original drums with faactory heads. Bear in mind that I'm no Neal Peart and that the video was recorded on an inexpensive camers.
I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thinks this. I really don't like what they did to their logo, they put some stupid circle around "Mapex" and I think it really messed it up. Also, what ever happened to the M series? All I can find is the "M Pro"
AWESOME!! I just ordered the Saturns in the same Root Beer finish but with black chrome hardware. It is the newer Studioease configuration for 2008. I also have a Pearl ICON 501C front rack.
I used to play drums all the time a few years ago, then one Christmas I decided to get myself a Christmas present and bought myself a $1700 (great deal) brand new Mapex Saturn studio kit. 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 toms, 22 kick, and 14 snare w/ hardware. That was two years ago and I've played it for about 10 hours total. I completely lost interest in drums as soon as I bought it. I think it was because I couldn't tune it and was getting depressed about it. Sucks
ha, I don't really know that I want to sell them. I've got an 8 week winter break from college coming up soon and I'm planning on playing them again since I'll have nothing else to do. Where do you live btw?

The clamps aren't very universal. The clamps only fit tubes that are 3/4" i.e. Pearl and Gibraltar
boomer8700 2 years ago
i thought yours were mapex? oh well, that doesn't matter, you seem to have got the clamps i need. you know, not pearl's rods, but the kind you have.
turquoiseguy 2 years ago
To further clarify...the Mapex tom holders are 3/4" and fit the Pearl DR-80 clamps

is that rack worth getting
menickperez 2 years ago
Yes, I would recommend the rack. It's sturdy enough to hold this kit with ease and it folds up easily.

Because friends in far away places wanted to see them. With 10,00+ views and relatively few negative remarks, others saw some value as well.
God bless.

sixpounder0666 2 years ago
Hey Sixpounder. The DR80 clamps use 7/8" post. If you are using standard Mapex tom holders (for the Staurn and Orion) they should fit.
I used the two that came with the kit and purchased two more from Musician's Friend.
boomer8700 2 years ago
Ahh Ok, thanks.
But could you tell me the name/number to those holders? Both the long you use for the floor toms and the ones you are using for the others toms :)
BTW I don't got a Saturn or Orion Mapes set.... It is Mapex but I'm not sure what type.. x)

BEOWULF282 3 years ago
Roughly $2000 for the kit, $400 for the rack, clamp and booms, and probably $1500 in cymbals (I bought most of these cymbals many, many years ago).
boomer8700 2 years ago
hahaha.
my beginners kit cost a tenth of that.

Hey Deep,
I've had this kit about a year now. Since then I've sold my Ludwig Classics and My Tama Starclassics. THIS is the kit for me!
BTW, the rack is Pearl's DR-80. It's their inexpensive rack and it works great for easy set up and tear down.

Anyway, im looking to buy this kit, how much did it set you back? (just the drums)

i didnt know the only 2 i ever posted that in were mapex saturn vids O.o
maybe all mapex saturn owners who post their kits on youtube also just happen to be creepy.
>.> think about it...

Yeh i was joking...and i agree, they are pretty creepy :)
jazz4 4 years ago
well all that aside, it's a nice kit.
even though 4 of your cymbals are blank! o.o what the hell is that about?
ZhasX3 4 years ago
The cymbals that are 'blank' are all A. Zildjians that I bought new back in 1976.
The China is an A. Zildjian as well.
The Hi Hats are a 13" Zildjian A/Z combo.
boomer8700 4 years ago
I got this kit (with the standard hardware pack) for $1750. The List on it was $3199, I believe, and the sticker price was $1899.
