@5kCAM I recorded this with a Sony DSR 200 DVCam and I used a cheap 800 watt red head to light the room as my DSR 200 performs very poorly in low light. I'd only just started using lighting and it's difficult to know what your shot looks like with the DSR if you're working alone because it doesn't have a flip screen. As you can see, the lighting wasn't very successful in this video. Some of my other videos demonstrate better lighting, eg. Halloween 2010, though there's much room for improvement.
@privatepavel I think the two mics sound quite different from each other. In the end you really have to make up your own mind which type of sound you prefer. I think the NTG-3 sounds smoother and richer, more like the sound of a radio DJ, but I haven't got the ideal voice for testing mics so it always sounds dull to my ears. I prefer the NTG-3 myself, otherwise I would've kept the ME-66, but I got rid of it and kept the NTG-3. I've used the NTG-3 for recording songs. Look in Music on my channel.
@dennisonearth Doh yes you're right about the word "tidy". I think it's mainly used in Wales to mean "good". The word "tidy" as "good" is actually in the online dictionary too, but as a 3rd meaning for the word, after "neat" and "organized". It's so easy to make the mistake of using local language. I thought you might have known the "taking the piss" one. Another expression we use in the UK is "pissed off", which means the same as "pissed" in the US. "Pissed" in the UK means inebriated!
@dennisonearth Yeah yeah, but you missed the funny point. In the US "pissed" means angry, but in the UK "pissed" means inebriated, so when we watch films that have characters saying "oh, dad's gonna be really pissed when he sees the mess you've made" - to us in the UK it means dad's going to fall around from having drunk too much alcohol haha! Another funny one is "fanny" - US "backside", UK "vagina" haha! Lot of funny mix-ups with that one as you can imagine! :)
@dennisonearth Hey, hello again, you should check out a video I just uploaded called "Someone Like You cover by Tara Fear (Recorded in my living room)". As the title states, we recorded the lyrics in my living room with the same NTG-3 shotgun mic, which was resting on a cushion on top of my sofa in the same sort of way as it is in this video (though you don't see it). I think you'll agree that it sounds pretty darn good, even if the method is weird ;)
thanks for the comparison, currently deciding which of these mics to buy, the mic I want and have used is the shure sm89 (best shotgun I've ever used) but have to watch the bucks so I'm leaning toward the ME66/K6, I owned the NTG2 once and it was probably one of the worst shotguns we'd ever used, not at all impressed with Rode mics but the this NT3 sounds pretty close to the ME66. thanks for taking the time to make and give us this video, it helped me out, thanks
@swissdude101 Well, I had the Rode NTG-3, used but like new with the pouch, foam shield and metal container, for £290 (pounds sterling). They go for around £400 brand new, or maybe less. The Sennheiser ME66 cost me £220 used a year ago. They go for around that price, or more. They're expensive new. You'll have to look them up. I think the NTG-3 is better. I havn't tried it outdoors yet, but I'm betting it'll sound better.
duuuwei :P
