@Johnlindsey289 lol. Well, actually, i DID see this as a kid but not in theaters. My big brother rented it when it first came out on vhs and we watched it together. It didn't give me a fear of Santa Claus though because i had already seen Tales from the Crypt, which also had a killer Santa in it and i knew they were only movies anyway and that none of it was real.
This film, was widely criticized by the PTA. Protesters, were picketing the theaters with signs, and patrons were signing petitions to force Tri Star pictures, to yank the film from theaters. A week after it was released, Tri Star canceled ads, and other campaigns for the film, and after it's second week, the film had finally been expelled, from theaters. I will NEVER watch a film, like this. Sorry, it's for the birds.
I vaguely remember seeing this ad on TV when I was a little kid back in '84, and it freaked me out. Not that I had to worry about it; the movie never would have made it to the theater in the little town I grew up in.
Great low budget Halloween/Friday The 13th cash-in that is the third best christmas horror movie with black Christmas 1974 being number one and Gremlins being number 2.
I remember that! I can't believe a bunch of housewives had nothing better to do than rip on a good ol fashioned slasher. Stupid.

Interesting. As much as I watched TV back then (I was 16 at the time), I've never, ever seen this ad. How did I miss that?

it would have been better if they made it so it was just some maniac in a santa suit and you never find out who it is and he never talks.

As a fan of slasher type stuff like this, if I had been the age I am now back then and heard it got pulled- I would have gotten so mad!
