@SuperEfexor No one credited this to Petipa. And actually, what the Mariinsky and other companies do are a "mess" by Sergeyev or Grigorovich. If you want to see the real Petipa, watch Vikharev's reconstruction for La Scala.
@SuperEfexor Petipa's choreography the same that the Kirov's version?! Are you serious? Watch better, you clearly weren't paying a lot of attention...
@SuperEfexor Gilbert is dancing Henriette not Clémence here. This is Henriette's variation and she's credited as Henriette, so no doubt about that. I don't understand what you're trying to say about Novikova and Legnani, but to me the reconstruction is anything but boring. And if you don't like Nureyev's choreography, that's okay, I don't like some parts of his Raymonda either. But you said that Petipa's and Sergeyev's versions are the same, and that's not true. Petipa's is much better.
This is one of the most difficult classical variations, yet when she dances it she's like entranced - so serene and controlled. I'm not a fan of Dorothée Gilbert, but I've got to admit she's a wonderful Henriette. Bravo!
@ChildofGod318 And if you want, you can find a really really great version of it by Sylvie Guillem - just write her name + 'Raymonda', it should be OK.
By the way, I'm pretty sure that Noureev's Raymonda is the only version where dancers really clap their hands. In Russia, the movement is more delicacy, more like a sort of fingers touch.
@MaliHannah You're probably right, I've seen a Russian dancer do this variation, but she didn't make a noise with her hands at all. I've found more videos with other dancers, but my favorite is still Sylvie
@MaliHannah. Nureyev danced Raymonda at the Kirov where, presumably, the clap was silent (as it is there today). When he brought the ballet to POB in 1983 he insisted that Raymonda's Act III clap should be clearly audible, although I am not sure why.

She has so much control to make this variation so good. Also what beautiful POB trained feet and footwork.

does anybody know the name of the Raymonda variation where you do a lot of hand claps?
ChildofGod318 1 year ago
@ChildofGod318 In French it's simply "variation de la claque" ("clap variation") from act 3.

@MaliHannah thank you very much! it's really hard to find these variations on youtube cuz of the copyrights and everything

maybe you're talking about uliana lopatkina, she doesn't make a sound, yes silvie is beautiful, but I suggest you also zakharova.
