The garbage Platinum Dunes remake was made as a desperate attempt to cash in on the popularity of the original and amounted to little more than a weak exploitation film.

The new one sucked, there was basically no plot and only action and killing, don't get me wrong its pretty good but the first was completely awesome with a complete plot, better vehicles, better actors and music. The first one seemed to have more of a story and just better everything, its the kind of movie you don't get tired of.
The remake is a pile of contrived SHIT, had no way near the suspense of the original. The actors were shithouse, the changes to the story were shithouse. All in all a complete humiliating failure and a giant waste of money. The '86 cast looked more convincing. The '86 film also delved into homo-eroticism and masochism which are huge risks for a movie now let alone a movie produced in 1986. The remake seems to do away with that by giving the male victim a girlfriend at the start so it seems to avoid some of the questioning of sexuality that gave the original a daring psychological component. A remake should be more daring, not less.
I always used to think the Hitcher film doesn't not need a sequeal but until now. I think they should make a sequeal. The plot could be after Ryder's death, Jim Halsey influences his ways and starts hitching himself. Really, he becomes the new Hitcher. If you think about, it does make sence to make a sequeal about it. That might turn out to be a good sequeal. What do guys think. Do you think they can do that???

Well said. All they do these days is adding more violence,. more mobiles,. more sfx, ..more sex...more crap acting..and welll..more of all of that crap which is NOT what makes a film worthwhile. This movie has an atmosphere no other film can match, much thanks to desolate score which does more than 70% of the film in this particular case!. A true classic!

I just watched the new Hitcher, and I must say, it was actually quite good. The original had some scenes that weren't believable: like when the girl escapes with the lead character.
And I prefer the newer ending, it gives the hitcher a motivation which wasn't clear in the original: he wanted to show an innocent person how good it feels to take a life, even if it's his own. But in the end he fails.
the original is the best the remake was pointless the only thing new it had to offer was gore and that's it, but It was ok at best, at least it wasn't as bad as most other remakes.

To be quite honest, i think Sean Bean did a rather good job in the remake. He's a great actor and i take nothing away from his talent at all. But....he's definitely NOT Rutger Hauer. And i don't think he tried to be, which made the remake watchable. Now in the original, that role was made for Hauer and there is, in no way, a comparison. Hauer and Howell made that film a classic!
Yes, I totally agree!! Mark Ishams eerie atmospheric music drove the intensity of the film. Many people over-look how important a score is to a movies over-all outcome.

This original is better. The actors seem more inocent, naive and believable. Jennifer Jason Leigh was awesome. There couldn't be a better actress for this part. She had the cute girl next door look. I liked how dramatic and emotional the move was. I was moved by the original more than the remake. Nothing like those classic actors from Fast Times at Ridgemont High like Jennifer Leigh.

The 2007 because its so much more realistic than the 1986 (If anyone would like to disagree then I would love to hear your arguments). I did not like that they killed the guy however, but I thought it solidified the girl's role in the end and only made her hotter.

original for sure. It seems like you're trying to make it look bad in this. Plot wise, the origional wins but the new one does have good camera quality and a scarier hitcher.

Yeh but, in the remake they showed the bit when the guy got him himself split by the truck. In the original they didnt show it. Noir the bit how ryder broke free from the prison bus in the orignal.

If the 1986 version Vs. the 2007 version was a fight they'd stop it withing the 1st 30 seconds of the 1st round.
There is NO fucking comparison the original version blows the remake out of the water. The remake is a fucking DISGRACE, as are 99% of the remamkes made today.

* some may disagree but there was certainly some funny gay undertones in the classic one..which made it that more enjoyable :D PLUS Rutger is hott...but so is Sean Bean

I just watched the new Hitcher, and I must say, it was actually quite good. The original had some scenes that weren't believable: like when the girl escapes with the lead character.
And I prefer the newer ending, it gives the hitcher a motivation which wasn't clear in the original: he wanted to show an innocent person how good it feels to take a life, even if it's his own. But in the end he fails.

To be quite honest, i think Sean Bean did a rather good job in the remake. He's a great actor and i take nothing away from his talent at all. But....he's definitely NOT Rutger Hauer. And i don't think he tried to be, which made the remake watchable. Now in the original, that role was made for Hauer and there is, in no way, a comparison. Hauer and Howell made that film a classic!

Yes, I totally agree!! Mark Ishams eerie atmospheric music drove the intensity of the film. Many people over-look how important a score is to a movies over-all outcome.

The original was way better in my opinion. Rutger Hauer cannot be beaten. He was so superbly scarey! The original film was ahead of its time, it was very under-rated when it first came out.

The original Hitcher is the best, hands down!!! The 2007 one don't even compare,though I love Sophia Bush in it. The actors in the original one were better actors and more believable. Rutger Hauer gave me shivers in the movie. And I love C Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh,great actors from the 80s!

This original is better. The actors seem more inocent, naive and believable. Jennifer Jason Leigh was awesome. There couldn't be a better actress for this part. She had the cute girl next door look. I liked how dramatic and emotional the move was. I was moved by the original more than the remake. Nothing like those classic actors from Fast Times at Ridgemont High like Jennifer Leigh.

The 2007 because its so much more realistic than the 1986 (If anyone would like to disagree then I would love to hear your arguments). I did not like that they killed the guy however, but I thought it solidified the girl's role in the end and only made her hotter.

It's got to be the original. The remake is a common horror film, the original has got style, baby. The only thing I was looking farward to in the remake while halfway though the film was to see sophia bush being yanked in half by the two trucks, because she was obviously only put in there to be cute. And anyway i've always thought that rutger was much sexier than sohpia anyway. also i think the music in this vid is a little inappropriate considering both hitcher films about a seriel killer

The 1986 Version hands down, it scared me when i was a kid. Rutger Hauer was more suspenseful and terrifying playing John Ryder. Even when hes offscreen you still know your gonna get creeped out. When it comes to acting terms i can never decide who steals the show - Rutger Hauer or C. Thomas Howell
