  • 1986 all the way!!! I hate it when people make modern versions of 80s movies. 1986 version with c Thomas Howell=one of the best movies ever! End of discussion.

  • Actaully i like the first one better not because of the gore but because of the new hitcher, Hes darker got the voice for it...and hes a good bad guy, and not only are the young couple played by better acters and wasn't it suppost to be gory? i mean hes a insane guy who murders people in the most brutal ways i think their both good but the hitcher (2007) was better

  • The Hitcher 1986 with Rutger Hauer, There's no comparison!

  • Why bother with the comparison at all? The original was made with the genuine intention of entertaining the audience with compelling characters and an intense villian. The garbage Platinum Dunes remake was made as a desperate attempt to cash in on the popularity of the original and amounted to little more than a weak exploitation film.

  • 2007

  • 1986 FTW

  • The Best is the original movie of 1986

  • i liked both equally im a big fan of rutger haur and sean bean

  • god thats awful music

  • rutger hauer came from the netherlands just like me i loved hobo with a shotgun awesome movie and 2 days ago this movie came on tvi hated it then ive downloaded the directors cut fucking awesome (best badguy ever thubs up if you agree)

  • The new one sucked, there was basically no plot and only action and killing, don't get me wrong its pretty good but the first was completely awesome with a complete plot, better vehicles, better actors and music. The first one seemed to have more of a story and just better everything, its the kind of movie you don't get tired of.

  • ive only seen the remake wich was good still would like to see the remake cause i like c. thomas howell

  • The remake is a pile of contrived SHIT, had no way near the suspense of the original. The actors were shithouse, the changes to the story were shithouse. All in all a complete humiliating failure and a giant waste of money. How some of you retards can say Sean Bean is better in the role than Rutger is a reflection of your horrible taste and complete ignorance. I can understand why so many new movies are tripe, its fuckheads like you people that watch them and somehow like them.

  • i didn't like the way that the 2007 version ended

  • I recently met Rutger Hauer on set, we appear together in two scenes of a movie about the kidnapping of Freddy Heineken (you know..from the beer) he's incredibly down-to-earth and full of wisdom, very underrated actor!

  • The 07 remake was just stupid. The original would beat the crap out of the remake with a tire iron.

  • Comment removed

  • Well maybe remake is not better hitcher movie. BUT its lots of "scarier" and Sean Bean is lots of better actor and 'bad' guy

Also when sean bean doesen't care if he lives or dies "I .. Want To.. Die" etc. He is freaking great actor with replics.

  • @superbeast889 Sean Bean is a good actor but I fail to see how he is a better villain than the legendary Hauer.

  • All these remakes are loads!Like The Longest Yard. One I hate is the new Bad News Bears. So liberal.Tanner doesn't say jews spics and niggers and now a girl.and at the end they had to make it a point to say its non alcoholic beer.Hollywood has lost its balls.

  • i totallly liked them both and i dont think i have a favorite but the part i liked in the classic was that it had C. Thomas Howell in it but the 2007 one had Sophei Bush and i like her to so...=)

  • remake was enjoyable... but the older version just shades it.

  • I love the 1986 especially with c Thomas howell in it classics were so much better

  • i hated the ending for the 2007 one cause the woman did nothing where the dude got them so far just to be ripped in half by that doosh

  • The '86 cast looked more convincing. The '86 film also delved into homo-eroticism and masochism which are huge risks for a movie now let alone a movie produced in 1986. The remake seems to do away with that by giving the male victim a girlfriend at the start so it seems to avoid some of the questioning of sexuality that gave the original a daring psychological component. A remake should be more daring, not less.

  • Sean Bean sure looks like the postal dude in The Hitcher remake.

  • the orginall is better, but the remake had an Olds 442

  • "Gas stations have cigarettes! " What about gas? " iyyyedontneedgas!

  • 1986 all the way! Original is always better! C. Thomas Howell made a better "Jim Halsey" then Zachary Knighton. And I hated how they just changed everything around in the remake! The Hitcher made in 1986 will always and forever be the best! ^w^

  • 1986 version

  • 1986 is so much better. it had suspense and was chilling while the remake was just action and gore.

  • 1986.

    Rutger was chillingly awesome entertainment.

  • The original is soooo much better and more realistic...Did you know c.thomas howell was one of the actors who could of played marty Mcfly in 'BackToTheFuture'

  • rutger and c, thomas with jennifer. it could'nt get any better then it was, they would have been better off showing the old one and saved 1.000.000s

  • The Hitcher made in 1986 is the best one evar!

  • Sophie bush ruined it for me..

  • i would say the 1986 one is better even thought ive only so 3 min of it i realy wanna see tht lol and also cuz i heavy like c.thomas howell !!!

2007 isnt tht good tbh i watched it and it wasnt there for mee lol

    haha

  • 2007 was shit, 1986 ftw

  • 1986 of course

  • oh lets not forget that they only mimiced a few scenes off the older version and pulled the rest out of their ass. Why is it that in Hollywood, they have to make a wimpy 105 pound women the person that kills the "bad guy". in the original I thought the women was the one that died. WTF. Seriously, I hope the guy that remade this isn't making movies anymore because I just can't believe the stupidity of this remake. Texas chainsaw massacre = woman, The hitcher remake = woman, etc etc.PATHETIC

  • @Gypscrew Totally right.

  • 1986

  • remake=bad

sean bean was a great villain not as good as rutger thought

and I prefer sophia bush than the other girl

  • it must be a regulation in the film industry prohibiting to re-make succesfull films specially.

  • Become a fan of C. Thomas Howell's latest film 'The Jailhouse' on Facebook

  • Lets face it, folks: any today's movie remake is crap! Today's filmmakers lack critical thinkings and compelling ideas!!!...

Look what they did to the remakes of Carrie, Flight of the Pheonix and Assault on Prescint 13...raping the &$^%@!! out of all the originalities...

...I'd rather go watch gay porn instead!!!

  • They should remake bad movies instead at least they have a chance to make it better.

  • @grumpypant Yeah, and don't ever mention our childhood cartoons, turned into real poeple movies. it's worse what hollywood do to them XD!

  • The Hitcher (1986) was really great Thriller. Rutger Hauer was great as villain. C. Thomas Howell did a brilliant job. Great movie but the remake was ok. Sophia Bush was really impressive in remake

  • Its all about Hauer, no matter how hard hollywood tries they just cant remake these classics. Look at the new Karate Kid, good lord! They just ruin movies like these to try and squeeze out a few more bucks. Use the name and do a poor imitation remake. Never seems to fail, lol.

  • yeah, can't wait to see what they do to Robocop Redux :O

  • Original by a thousand miles!

Original- Great acting, good script, atmosphere, unbelievable cinematography, good editing and no crappy CGI.

Remake- Terrible acting, lazy cinematography, script written by a 14 year old, unneeded sex and violence and waaaay too much CGI.

Original rapes the remake. Hands down.

  • Original none the better for Reamake with realy horrible killer!!!thanks Sean Bean !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the scene at the rest stop where he has his finger in the barrel of the gun under the table and he goes " pfft " as if to shoot

the response from C THOMAS and the expression on RUTGERS face is simply magic

  • The original with Howell and Hauer FTW !!!

  • there is no better "bad guy" than Rutger Hauer...

  • @SireNahvas Agreed. Rutger Hauer played the psychotic role to perfection. He appeared to be genuinely having fun toying with Jim... small things, like the faces he made and the things he did. (Visiting him at the coffee shop)

Sean Bean, just played the role like some asshole who was picking on some college couple. He didn't look like he was having fun doing it. No disrespect to Sean Bean, but Rutger had him beat by a mile in the role of John Ryder.

  • @SireNahvas Yes there is, Sean's better for instance.

  • The original - hands down. There original was based on style and atmosphere. The new one like most re-makes nowadays add the element of more violence (or special effects) and that is all the "improvement".

  • Well said. All they do these days is adding more violence,. more mobiles,. more sfx, ..more sex...more crap acting..and welll..more of all of that crap which is NOT what makes a film worthwhile. This movie has an atmosphere no other film can match, much thanks to desolate score which does more than 70% of the film in this particular case!. A true classic!

  • You're all retards if you think the new one is better!. Can't beat the atmosphere (read background score) from the Original, nor the superb acting from both Rutger Hauer & C.Thomas Howell. End of discussion!

  • Reamake is more violent. Better sound quality. Watching he privews seemed it like it was a horror film.

  • In a way, the remake could be the better film. For example, @ the end when Ryder broke out from the prison bus, it never showed how he escaped in the orignal. But it showed it on the remake. Also, the bit when that truck ripped that girl in half lol It didnt even show it on the original.

But the origanl more explains why ryder does these thingst o peope and why he has chosen Jim to be the one who is finally going to stop him . I would still go with origanal.

  • The new one wasn't as good, but nothing can compare to the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory failure. How can you screw up a movie with Johnny Depp as the main character??

  • I prefer the remake.

  • c. thomas howell soooooooooo sexy! lol original wins

  • Was Christopher Walken in the original? If so, any idea how I could find it??

    Thanks!!

  • i watched the remake before the original.

i prefer the original over the remake, and will prefer most originals over any remake today.

the problem with the remake, and most other remakes are, that they always use mindless violence and sex, and always fucking up the storylines making them retarded.

  • I saw both .The girl in the remake was better but Rutger definately wins

  • original for sure. It seems like you're trying to make it look bad in this. Plot wise, the origional wins but the new one does have good camera quality and a scarier hitcher.

  • definitely 2007, it has 006 in it!!

  • 1986 the origional

  • the original a million years better .

  • The remake was horrible. Original is a trillion times better.

  • The remake can't just beat the original! I like the hitcher 1986 way more..

  • why?

  • cause i think Rutger did a excellent job in that movie...:)

  • Yeh but, in the remake they showed the bit when the guy got him himself split by the truck. In the original they didnt show it. Noir the bit how ryder broke free from the prison bus in the orignal.

  • remake only cause i saw but i heard the original was better so i think that the only thing that was better in the remake was Sophia bush

  • 1986 isw way better!!!!!!!

  • u fink eyey

  • wat does that even mean?

  • Im jus sayin u fink inii.. yeh ur ryt, the old version is better

  • Remake movie for new than Classic move for old. Remake movie is AWESOME!

  • 1986 version rules. Not even seen the new one and have no wish to. Rutger Hauer is a God.

  • Funrunner, you're absolutely right !!!!!

    I couldn't agree more.

And there has been plenty of useless remakes for a few years : it's a shame!

  • 86 hell yeah

  • with respect to sean bean because i do like him , the remake blew dirty monkey balls... just like most of the crappy remakes they changed shit around that didnt need to be changed .. why not just call it the hitcher 3 ....

  • 1986 without question, its miles better,

the remake is aload of balls compared.

    - tommy howell is just amazing in this too :)

  • 1986 BABY

  • Comment removed

  • ponyboy <3

    no shirt, mmm

  • i hate when people redo 80's movies!!!!!!

Ponyboy is so much better then the actors then the new one!

  • If the 1986 version Vs. the 2007 version was a fight they'd stop it withing the 1st 30 seconds of the 1st round.

There is NO fucking comparison the original version blows the remake out of the water. The remake is a fucking DISGRACE, as are 99% of the remamkes made today.

And to the fucktwat below me, movies aren't based on actors looks moron, that's why today's movies fucking BLOW. ZERO TALENT, and ZERO creativity!

    RUTGER HAUER FUCKING RULES!!!!!

  • original is my favourite because I hate Sophie Bush in the remake...i think C.Thomas Howell was better in that role. Plus I hated how they made it 2 people in the remake...

    * some may disagree but there was certainly some funny gay undertones in the classic one..which made it that more enjoyable :D PLUS Rutger is hott...but so is Sean Bean

  • @elggoh i agree

  • @elggoh how could u hate Sophia Bush? I mean hate is a strong word. dislike fair enough. I think she's seriously the niceist actress ever! such a sweetheart and she was really good in this remake.

  • Does a psychopath really need motivation?

  • the original is the best the remake was pointless the only thing new it had to offer was gore and that's it, but It was ok at best, at least it wasn't as bad as most other remakes.

  • The 80's version is a classic, when it comes to horror cinema. It's obvious that I pick the old one!

  • i totaly agree with u faggyfuck01. the original looks like one of those cheesy 80's cop movies. i like how they have a strong female lead in the new one. new one is better hands down.

  • hell ya!!! i luv the new one!!! ive seen it over 80 times! and sean bean is sooo seXXy!!!

  • To be quite honest, i think Sean Bean did a rather good job in the remake. He's a great actor and i take nothing away from his talent at all. But....he's definitely NOT Rutger Hauer. And i don't think he tried to be, which made the remake watchable. Now in the original, that role was made for Hauer and there is, in no way, a comparison. Hauer and Howell made that film a classic!

  • Good mark Isham soundtrack in original

  • Yes, I totally agree!! Mark Ishams eerie atmospheric music drove the intensity of the film. Many people over-look how important a score is to a movies over-all outcome.

  • i haven't see the oringal complete but wasn't there no girl friend in the original i am not sure that was 2 years ago but i didn't think that the new one is bad it's oke i think there is missing a little bit pressure

  • The original was way better in my opinion. Rutger Hauer cannot be beaten. He was so superbly scarey! The original film was ahead of its time, it was very under-rated when it first came out.

  • i like the new one!!!!

  • i prefer the original; but thats just me.

    :}

    thomas howell rockss!x3

  • Its not only you, i prefer the original to.

  • 1986 is the best one

  • original better all u new comers step the fuck back 86 Hitcher was the best the new one? Um some good lookin actors in it ughhhh awful move on and leave the original alone please no remakes!!!!! Can u remake The Shinning? Rebecca De Morney is learning from thatr mistake!

  • The original Hitcher is the best, hands down!!! The 2007 one don't even compare, though I love Sophia Bush in it. The actors in the original one were better actors and more believable. Rutger Hauer gave me shivers in the movie. And I love C Thomas Howell and Jennifer Jason Leigh, great actors from the 80s!

  • sean bean over everybody!!!

  • i think sophia bush made the 2007 hitcher really good! better than jennifer in the 1986 version. but props to sophia bush!

  • 1986 is the best

but 2007 is pretty good to

    "Useless waste"

  • Comment removed

  • People don't give the remake enough credit. It was sick and the acting was really good for a horror movie. I loved it, so i advise you to see it =)

  • I havent seen the original, but seeing the one that's out now has made me wanna see it.

Sean Bean, was good. Phycotic but good lol, so will have a look round for the original.

  • The original was way better. The new one sucked ass. I was very disappointed with it.

  • Rutger Hauer really creeped me out more in the original. He was just insane looking with personality. Love that guy.

  • This original is better. The actors seem more inocent, naive and believable. Jennifer Jason Leigh was awesome. There couldn't be a better actress for this part. She had the cute girl next door look. I liked how dramatic and emotional the move was. I was moved by the original more than the remake. Nothing like those classic actors from Fast Times at Ridgemont High like Jennifer Leigh.

  • the original will always be better. The actors were excellent! They made it more realistic without all the nudity and boobs exposed. And showing some HOT girl prance around while screaming. The new one is no match for the original.People who enjoy good movies certainly would agree that the old one is better.

  • Original, no compitition.

I actually watched the 2007 version first, then the only reason I watched the 1986 version was because I found out that C Thomas Howell is in it (and come on, who would give up the chance to stare at him for an hour and a half?)

I was blown away by how much better the original is.

  • I love the original to this day, I haven't seen the new one I thought it was a sequel at first. The scope on the front cover gave me that idea, but the new one cant be that bad surely?! I mean Sean Bean's a quality actor!

  • The original is much better, the remake was shit.

  • Wait a minute, you say the 2007 version is better, yet have't even seen the original?

  • The original was the best, and Tommy Howell was smoking hott, lol ^^

  • The 2007 because its so much more realistic than the 1986 (If anyone would like to disagree then I would love to hear your arguments). I did not like that they killed the guy however, but I thought it solidified the girl's role in the end and only made her hotter.

  • the original by far

  • if Sophia Bush was in the original, well no one wake me up from a perfect dream. C. Thomas is so cute in this :)

  • the original by far

  • The origanle Hitcher is the best one yeah i agree that the girl in the new hitcher is hot but the origanle is the best! The remake it just fucking sucks though. I saw the origanale first Ithoght it waz fucking awsome then i saw the remake on tv and I thought it waz the gayest one they ever made! The point is the origanle is better!

  • The Hitcher 2007

  • ok honestly half the people who hated the remake were just bitter becuz jim dies i no thats wut killed this movie for me i really liked the remake better up until the ripped jim in half and not grace...

  • It's got to be the original. The remake is a common horror film, the original has got style, baby. The only thing I was looking farward to in the remake while halfway though the film was to see sophia bush being yanked in half by the two trucks, because she was obviously only put in there to be cute. And anyway i've always thought that rutger was much sexier than sohpia anyway. also i think the music in this vid is a little inappropriate considering both hitcher films about a seriel killer

  • The Hitcher 1986

  • It's like making a remake of terminator with Vin diesel as a lead role... you know it would never reach up to the original

  • Who thought that Sean Bean could possibly outdo Rutger Hauer as a bad guy?

  • Rutger Hauer is the gold standard for this film - no, ruby standard.

  • The remake sucked. The old one is awesome, Rutger Hauer is the man.

  • The original is a film with soul the second is like an MTV music video. I mean, why are they still making vacuous remakes like this? They're utterly forgettable.

  • The 1986 Version hands down, it scared me when i was a kid. Rutger Hauer was more suspenseful and terrifying playing John Ryder. Even when hes offscreen you still know your gonna get creeped out. When it comes to acting terms i can never decide who steals the show - Rutger Hauer or C. Thomas Howell

  • 1986 version hands down its just got more suspence the 2007 was just lacking the only sence I liked in the remake the when Ryder pops up with t-bird shooting through all the troopers with NIN ''CLOSER''.But hands down Tommy ,Rutger and Jennifer are the better actors which sold it better then the cast in the remake IMO!

  • the 2007 alote betther...and sophia bush so cute at this movie!=P i love her=]

  • Please PLEASE tell me you're not human.

  • The first movie is always classic :) =).

  • thanks dude ;) well, it's strange that i've never heard it cos i like Duran Duran....

  • what's the title of the song in this video? Please tell me cos i love it !! By the way, i saw both of them and i also have the hitcher with rutger hauer in dvd and i prefer it because Rutger Hauer is perfect (with all respect for Sean Bean that's awesome too) but i prefer Rutger :)

  • Ohh it's called Falling Down by Duran Duran.

  • i say 1986 because its the original and i love the 80s!but mostly because it has tommy in it and i LOVE him!

  • fuck that! dude rutger haurer was waaaaayyyy beter plus the 1986 movie as a whole was better. im so mad i cant find a copy of it for rent or purchase anywhere...but 1986 def. better!!!!

  • lol i got the 1986 hitchers i like them both but i like the 2007 one way better its just so cool

  • Boo! Sean Bean is so much better!

  • I'm sure to be killed for this, but I like the remake. Sophia Bush was really great, and it felt a lot more real, as was the director's intent. I dunno, people. I like the remake.

Now, I'm gonna sit back and wait for the abusive comments to roll in...

  • Haha no that's okay.

I think alot of the time the only reason people prefer the original is because of C. Thomas Howell. Which is okay cuz he's awesome :]

  • No, no, NO. The remake, if anything, felt LESS real, and the shoehorned Mary Sue didn't endear the movie to me no further. The movie is HORRID.

  • agree ^^
