Brian, thank you so much for everything you have always donewith Freddie and in Freddies memory. You are the silent support always with him. You sir are the unrecoginised talent of Queen.
I think this is the best "Too much love will kill you"-performance of all time. Not because Brian hits every note right, but because he shows he's human, and he's lost one of the people he loved the most, and he's not afraid to show how much it hurt him.
Theres several versions of brian singin this which are much more solid vocally, this was probably a very emotional moment for him, understandably. his voice is totally amazin, but right here u can here its a bit tough . rightfully. love u freddie and love u bri!!!
If I had a time machine I'd first go to the future, get a cure for AIDS, then go back to early 1991 and save Freddie's life. And you know what? If it's at all possible, I will one day. Also, I'd keep a number of other people alive, like Roger Zelazny, Kevin Smith (the actor who played Ares on Xena), and a number of others...
To address the content and history of this song: From what i know it was written in early 1989 by Brian. It was about his divorce "I used to bring you sunshine, but now all I ever do is bring you down" and the news of Freddie's illness. It was rejected by Freddie for The Miracle album. This is the first time it was played in public. But, Freddie recorded it before this and before its debut on Back to the Light. Freddie's recording is on Made in Heaven.
i saw this concert like a hundred times butstill this song makes me sad whenever i hear it.....it is such a shame that Freddie passed away....i wish he were still alive......reast in peace dear Freddie Mercury:|
some men were born to be great, some believe they were born to be great, freddie was neither... he was born to shake the world to its knees, but he stayed humble. that is the trademark of a great man... R.I.P.
You can hear the pain in Brian's voice. What it must feel like to have your best friend die...to WATCH him die for 4 years. I dont want to imagine it.
@FreddieRocksForever I know...I couldn't imagine it either!...I thought Freddy was so brave. He just wante to keep working......keep on a rolling....HUGE props to him....and WOW.....this was a great performance.....I watched one of the perfomances of him singing Love of My life after freddy passed....where the whole audience sang along....wow...tht brought me to tears....
the thing that made queen is that every single one of them had talent they all had amazing voices and had respect for their instruments, each other and their fans.
Long Live Freddie Mercury...Thanks for leaving us a legacy and you will always be remembered...Thank you Brian May for giving a tribute to one of the greatest singers in the world....
Maybe Brian's voice is not like Freddie's voice, but I think it is very beautiful, it's calming. Also we must not forget that Freddie had talent as singer, Brian has it on the guitar.
@Biegan88 still, this was Brian's song before it was a Queen song, and lstening to Brian's version has a whole different meaning, both are very poignant .
As I realise that the audience had most likely never listened to this before,it must have been quite a moment! Not that the rest of the concert wasn't..
@michelrpg Yes,that's what I'm saying. The concert was held back in 1992 but the song was publiced for the first time in 1995 on Made in Heaven.Or at least that's what I think!
@porock21gr "Too Much Love Will Kill You" made its public debut on Brian May's first solo album, "Back To The Light". The version that was recorded as Queen, in the late 80's, was released on 1995's "Made In Heaven".
@brightonrock74 Thanks for the information!I was familiar with the Brian May version but I thought it was released later than the Queen one.But as I see it was released (shortly) after the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert too,so still the people who attended it must have been the first to listen to it in public which was my initial point.. :)
I've got this on DVD & used to have it on VHS, What i want to know is why did they have to cut the first part of the concert out on the DVD??? it makes no sense & it's ruined a fantastic concert which i love. That concert was to help raise money for aids charities & also a send off for Freddie so why cut out the first part on the DVD....SHAME ON YOU!!!!
I always cry when I hear this song. It's very sad,but beautiful at the same time. You are so beautiful Brian inside and out,now and 4 ever...I love you....
Freddie Mercury was 'The Entertainer'. He spanned generations with his music. I only wish that I had the chance to see him in concert. I grew up with his music and my children will too!
