LMAO I was actually expecting to laugh when I found out what that was they used to make this sound, man its like watching a monkey drink its own piss these old effects these days. :L
@explosionsfun If you listen to my piece, the FAMOUS bit comes first - but then it slides into a bunch of TONES that were new in '62-3 - but quickly became OLD.
Thus they took to ONLY using the first bit - FADING it BEFORE the tones. However, on a recent episode, the sound mixer kept it GOING, so you could hear those tones - for a few seconds - something I hadn't heard since the early Sixties.
@dwaynepipe59 well the plans for doctor who were made sometime in 1963, then all the preperation was done by July 1963 but delayed. so I think it was made in 1963. not 62
@animationdude56 To be honest, I put this up SO long ago, I can't remember where I got the info from.
However, while Wiki says ep 1 was screened in November, '63 - it says the "preparations" took "a year" - thus this sound effect COULD have been created in '62.
Brian Hodgson was the engineer responsible (he JOINED the Radiophonic Workshop in '62) and is only 73 and STILL LIVING. Maybe HE could shed some light on this? Anyone out there KNOW him???
@dwaynepipe59 I guess that until someone asks him we'll never know. I'm only drawing my evidence from the documentaries "Doctor Who : Origins" and "Masters of Sound" on the 'The Edge of Destruction' DVD.
@dearthcool223 i know where he got it. its on the doctor who album 'Doctor Who at the Radiophonic Workshop, Volume 1 : The Early Years'. is a great album, but its mostly sound effects. the other volumes focus more on the music. i would recommend it as its a good addition to any whovian's Doctor Who merchandise
@animationdude56 Nope! Actually, I got the audio off the Interweb, soon after I got my first computer - so I don't know WHERE it came from - only that it was the ORIGINAL effect, including later stuff that isn't used anymore. The VIDEO component I acquired from a device I also acquired - but have since LOST. The whole I put together for my friends - MONTHS before I started uploading to YouTube. Then I came across it while scanning m'collection for uploads - and figured others might like it.
@animationdude56 p.s. Of course, it might very well have ORIGINATED on the album you describe. I think it looks cool with the video though - and to date, 29 people agree with me - plus hopefully, the other seventeen thousand earthlings (and others?) who have stumbled across it too!
