This proves scientifically that sitting on the spot is not equalling 'doing nothing'. Think again... ;-) Great art and science here, thanks for sharing it with people who try to show that there is consciousness outside the mental prisons.
Adding to my own reaction below, I do really like to look at this and find it intriguing. So to add to the shear joy of it, allow me to throw this into the discussion for who is interested in this kind of thing : Look up here:
Pat Metheny - Orchestrion
He is a great composer who recently wrote (and programmed) orchstrations for machined instruments....
( It seems I cant post youtube links here, I tried)
It's a nice idea, I appreciate the experiment, but unless the performer and technology really eventually can team up and control the sounds into some structure and real performance, it's just a cool (artsy) way to semi- randomly instruct sound generating devices. I don't appreciate random music, because there are better ways invented to make noise sound interesting, like playing musical instruments, that were actually created for this. Nice try though...
@Misantropo04 haha thats real mature, your soooooo funny. -_-" im a musical performer in highschool and this dosent seem intriguing to me, so quit being such a pain in the ass first of all, and you can just shut up and not start some nerdy ass internet fight -_- so lay off dip shit
The sound choice is the key for this meditative piece. Also the layering of visuals. Black and white is definite. the brain connected to the sound source is the step into cyberpunk.
I was thinking. Is the performer actually learning to control the sounds?
The sounds happen whenever the performer emits alpha waves from the brain. That happens whenever he reaches a non-visual frame of thought. He can control it, sorta.
So the music in the video basically has no relation to what he's doing, right? It looks like the brain measurements are being translated into some tremory, random-looking jerks of the equipment.

I studied sound waves but I'm curious how the instruments vibrate. Is there a site to demonstrate how he hooked up the EEG to the instruments?

there's not even a constant beat.
the closest thing to consistency is the bounce from a big hit
