@wtg2989 as its the apocalypse, the weapons are rather poor quality and fairly old - a build up of dirt or grime can disrupt the aim of the bullets. You can see that the hitman looks at his gun afterwards, as if checking whats wrong with it. The bullet hits his bag the second time and deflects off something like a blade in his bag.

@pioneerz450 The blind (or other handicapped people), In the absence of one sense, the others are heightened to compensate for this loss and available brain capacity, blindness especially. I have talked to blind people who can tell where the sun is or whether or not there are windows in the room they are in because of the warmth they feel from it. You don't really have a very strong argument here.

Watch the bar fight scene, when the guy advances towards him he never turns to look at the guy. He grabs him and does what needs to do to protect himself.

I never understood this scene. Nobody could hit him! I started wondering if perhaps there were more blind people than I thought, since almost everybody that goes outside puts on goggles or sunglasses. I think that means that people have gone out without protection and their eyes got burned or SOMETHING.

@Knifegash I don't think people were blind in general. Most of the people lived underground during the "nuclear war" when the atmosphere had a serious hole and the sun rays were too much. But this is 35yrs into the future now so they're fine but had to wear sunglasses to protect their eyes. I think Eli lost his sight because of it while the one lady Carnegie was abusing said she was born blind.

@DylanMatthewB I think its because he had a sense he was protected by God. Notice that after that he started acting sort of weird. He knew there was something about the book and Eli? The one weakness this guy had was Salara. At the same time he didn't understand why he's even working for Carnegie but to him having Salara was worth it. But he paid the price when he died (by Eli's weapon). He starts preying before he dies and Carnegie is tripped out by it. But basically he knew Eli was protected.

@Poseidon500 Doesn't look like it. Goes directly through the center of the back of his neck. You can tell when the camera circles around and shows no hole. The bad guy shoots him in the back before that too, and looks at his gun because he can't believe that he missed. It is supposed to be a miracle, like Eli being able to shoot others while blind. Even a sighted person wouldn't be able to do what he does in the movie, but for a miracle, like walking away after being shot at the house. Miracle.
