Dunno what, but there's something fuckin magic in this vid;O
Its brutal and so calm in the same time...
Its just pure pleasure to watch mr. D dancing on his drumset with power and preccision of a robot ;O
Maby its just me but when im in a bad mood or im bored i just load this vid and watch it like 3-5 times and than imediatelly world become a better place :P
P.s. Good to know that not only I think that Kollias is sloppy;P
Why is it people always have to compare drummers and choose one over the other? They all play for great bands, so just enjoy the music and respect the musicians :) Some people will always be better and some people will always disagree. That's just how it is.
@slayermanbob Indeed. Kollias may be faster. But also alot sloppier in his playing. I like fast stuff, but i also want it to be clean and clear(If you know what i mean) That's where Roddy is the friggin man! Roddy is a better drummer overall, imo. Roddy keeps suprising me with new stuff and tecniques all the time, i guess thats why he's my favorite drummer along King Romain Goulon I. ;)
@Bultjaevel I agree completley. That's why I said, " I agree with you," in that past comment. Referring to how Roddy is Cleaner. Also Roddy seems to have a larger playing style than Kollias.
I remember seeing this video a whiiiile back, when I first started playing death metal..thought this shit was impossible, now that I've played for several years, it ain't that hard now that i watch this again haha
but its still pretty sick, real repetitive though
@dfnoonan A trigger is a device hooked up to the rim of a drum. When the drum is hit, the trigger sends a signal to a MIDI device of some sort, which generates a sound through an amplifier. The reason that metal drummers use triggers on their bass drums is that when approaching speeds of 220bpm or more, 16th note double bass rolls start to sound like mush. Triggering allows the rolls to sound fluent and distinct.
@Coreyf24 the ere are 2 reasons people use triggers; they like a lot of attack, or they can't hit the drum hard enough, and base drums don't automatically make 16th notes mush at 220+, case in point, angel of death unholy alliance 2, war ensemble rock am ring 2005, even the bootleg of Nile live in NYC 1-18-10 where you can't hear the triggers(some are clearer than others in the bootleg)
@BenHBX Ask guitarists if they can hear the notes live at 250 BPM without triggers. They will tell you they can't. It makes everyone's life easier if extremely fast metal drummers use triggers. Generally it's about note separation and timing. Ask guys like Derek Roddy, he certainly plays with enough power, and he tries not to use triggers unless at high speeds because he likes the sound of a mic'd bass drum better. He still uses triggers because it is necessary at those speeds.
@Coreyf24 I was talking purely from the standpoint of the listener when I said that there are drummers who are perfectly clear above 220, but I've never had to play along live, so I really can't speak to that, but if the rest of the band needs to hear triggers to play insinc, I would just put them through the monitors
This is to BenHBX......you do realize that Derek Roddy's signature axis pedal has a built in trigger, so his bass drums are triggered. And while you don't need triggers to play fast ( Dave Lombardo is a perfect example), it's very hard to play the bass drums at the same volume that you normaly would when you're going fast.
@pestarmageddon i admire and look up to uge,kollias and roddy but i would say most of my influence is from uge he is better than most deathmetal drummers out there especially for being only 16 and he getts allot more power ont the bass drum that allmost anyone i have ever seen at any of those speeds

In the Derek Roddy forums, Derek Roddy said that there really isn't a "definitive" swivel technique.
It's how the leg/foot naturally reacts when being pushed to the limits.
There's no short cut, magically instant technique for super fast and consistent double bass drum playing. It's all practice practice practice.

@benwcc what do you mean simple swivel?george uses swivel also.
Sorry if i sound arrogant,I am not meaning to be, I just dont get what your saying
pnutskater96 1 year ago
@pnutskater96
watch carefully the one-foot blast between Uge and George. just search some vids from them :-)
benwcc 1 year ago
@benwcc i dont see much difference but clearly george is better
pnutskater96 1 year ago
@benwcc
All three of them, Uge, Kollias and Roddy use the same swivel technique, and since there is only one swivel technique, there's no difference.
Derek used to play heel up, but he later switched to swivel.
