ok im definately leaning on harry potter's side cus personally ive never liked twilight after i watched the first two movies and read part of the first book (couldnt finish it, got bored) sorry for not staying on subject but where was this debate? cus the lady on 1:53 looks a lot like my history and english teacher O.O

The portrayal of women is equally awful in both series (based on the HP books and the Twilight films). There's one gifted girl (Alice and Hermonie) and one useless girl with no personality (Bella and Ginny) in both books. Just like Bella and Edward have no chemistry, neither do Ginny and Harry. Both romances are akward and forced. Also, the way Hermonie was downgraded from a genius to Ron Weasley's squeeze toy in the final book was disgusting. Awful couples, all of them.

@ErnilEnNaur - I don't know. Yes, Ginny gets left behind, but really... Hermione is a rather strong character when it comes to life. She is sensible, smart, a lot of things Bella is not. Most people compare Bella and Hermione together, because they are supposed to be both smart characters.

No question in my mind, though I must admit to never having read The Twilight series. Still, Harry Potter went downhill after book four and the final book was an absolute piece of garbage.

I've read all the book and Harry Potter is definently a better choice for young teenagers. It is a great series that our generation grew up with reading. The story is full of twists and suspense which makes it a great read.

Twilight on the other hand is stretched out way too long and does not get to the climax (if you can say it that) of the story. It was poorly written and terrible, I mean Stephen King even dissed Stephanie Meyer.

@nonepeck - Actually, I've written plenty of stuff, some of which is online, some of which is not. However, you do not need to write a novel to be able to use literary analysis. As for it being a fresh vampire story, I suggest going and reading/watching more from the vampire genera before you say that. Many fans of the vampire genera have seen her stuff done before, including sparkling vampires.

umm... twilight is unoriginal because there are tons of stories that have the same plot; forbidden love. Twilight is just a cheap rip off of romeo and juliet with a stupid twist and a happy ending. Also the love triangle between Bella, Edward and Jacob is completely unoriginal. Ive seen that so many time and in the books it just drags it. A good example of an orginal story is Harry Potter maybe you should read it sometime if the story plot isnt too complex for you to understand.

Actually wizards are very original. I have never read a story like HP with wizards and you probably couldnt name one. Unlike this ive seen tons of stories like twilight with vampires so I dont think you did your little research. And FYI most of the vampires in Twilight did kill just a few did not so it is not really "fresh". and what truly make Harry Potter better is there is actually a message unlike in Twilight. Karin, Vampire Knight, sola... sure, these are all manga/anime, but those are the ones I'm most familiar with. There are other books that do this too.

Those that do, well... they tend to see Twilight as a flawed work. Being British has nothing to do with why the books are different either. Again, I say, read/research more into the vampire genera. Of course Harry Potter won! From the mechanics of writing to the plots and messages in the books, the Harry Potter Series is far greater than Twilight. Just in terms of writing, there are dozens of plot holes, basic facts she [Meyer] messed up, a serious lack of research, pointless and endless sections made of nothing but purple prose, and an actual conflict isnt introduced until the last bit of the story, and even then it felt like there was no motivation for any of it.

Twilight was written terribly, had a gag-worthy, cop-out, "and we all lived happily-ever-after" ending, its characters are all 1 dimensional cardboard cut-outs made to stand there looking pretty, the leads are both Mary sues, the series sends bad messages to its readers, there were copious amounts of purple prose...

... There is no end to the FAIL that is Twilight.

Harry Potter on the other hand, is a completely different story...
