My personal ordering for the games overall is 3 > 2 > 5 > 1 > 4
It's VERY close with 2 and 3. There's just something I like better about 3.
As for why I put 1 so low, it's purely because it's hard to play now, not having all of the improvements that were put in in the later installments (Like only being able to have 1 rune. So annoying).
4 is the only one that I feel really meh about. It's also the only one I haven't beaten (Gotten to the final dungeon, though)
dunno how many of you know this, but Konami is making another (unfortunately, its another spin off on the PSP with nothing to do with the rest of the series)
If Konami decides to remake the Suikoden series, I think this is the one that could use the most changes. A story that feels abbreviated, 4-character party limit (the side parties were a nice touch, though), LONG sea travel--I wish they abbreviated this feature rather than the story.
However, the song used in the opening is one of the best features of this game. They should NOT replace this song.
Ocean encounter rate is insane o.O I had headaches sometimes, 4 fighters battle system EPIC FAIL!!!, and the major battle system is too much simple =/, not horrible but aganist his predecesors uhm leaves a lot to wish for.

the game had good graphics but the battles seem to be to repetitve and i enjoyed the music as well snowe becomes a real jerk throught the game and the game gets really hard unless you have enough money to strengthen yor weapon but good game

with that said, after watching this, i will still have to say 3 had the best opening. to this day i find myself listening to that opening intro. 1 and 2 were best gameplay for me. as far as storyline idk. prolly 2.

@PoisonMatch I know right, 3 is the best opening not just for the Suikoden series but for any game ever made. Some thing about it just get you all work up to play the game.
I actually disagree with you, I don't really like the intro of Suikoden V. Suikoden II definitely has a better opening....and overall, the best out of the Suikoden Series. =)

@Yuber108 Definitely not. Suikoden 5 had the best storyline ever in Suikoden series, the best way of delivering events, the best characters and the most emotion. It's true I started with Suikoden 2 and I love it a lot, but hands down, you can't even compare the simplicity of Suikoden 2 to complexity of Suikoden 5. It's simply better written.
Best Suikoden opening ever, worst Suikoden game ever (even though I haven't played 5 yet). Just got done playing Suikoden iv and this game lacks in so many ways, from the extremely high encounter rate to the tedious and non-user friendly ship traveling system. It should not take an hour to go from one location to another on the World Map. The storyline was simplistic and unimaginative as well. All the other Suikoden's are amazing!

People say they hate the traveling system... am I the only one who likes it?? Took me long time before I found the boost button on the ps2 controller (R2 or something) But I still love it :)
The one thing I hated about this game was travel. It took so damn long to get from place to place that I began to loathe the very thought of playing this thing. Thank God for Viki, I'd never been so happy to see her before.
i love the dice game in suikoden 4. Game breaking for the win. =p i keep saving my game on 15,000 potch intervals. 30 mins later................230,000 potch and not more then 45 minutes into the game and a person can buy anything they want and becaome overpowered with gear. xD

(I buy most of my games from the UK because they are seriously way too overpriced here in Australia, and their games work no prob in my aus console)

2 things bad about the game, the battle system only allowed 4 characters which means limited combo attacks and 2 it was too damned short. other then that it was a pretty good game.

this opening is a good song, confusing video, and suikoden 4 is just as good as suikoden 1. but dont get me wrong, they are both amazing.!!!!!! suikoden 1 is a little slower and harder to know what to do next. suikoden 4 is short but makes the sea travel long so the game seems long.
I have from this day on played and finished 1,2,3 and I own 4 and 5. I waited until I got the 4th game before I continue with 5 and this game is greatly underestimated! As a sort of Suikoden expert I can say that the game does follow the typical route as the others do. It also have the magics as it was in the good old second game thank god. (I absoulty HATED the third´s magic being able to damage your team) It´s story is somewhat choppy but is managable, though bosses are tough.
Further more there as a bit of typoes in 4 but the voices (voices weren´t in 3!) are top notch! The gameplay is as it should and don´t even TRY to complain to the NEW FEATURE with the ships! As you get Viki (she´s in every game) you can teleport where you´ve been anyways... the exploration is... up to you. Personally I think you earn a great deal of money and exp along the trip. I´m actually currently gaming this so I know what I´m writing here. 29+ hours in atm.
Also, not too importants but you get to fight with JEANE (everyone´s favorite runemaster) and boy are you going to be surprised when you get her... (clothes?) I´m willing to bet she and Viki are the best runemages.... I know Viki is since er... the three other games before this one. Oh yes, there´s one more thing... seems this game is 150 years before the first one... I think this is the ancestor to Tir McDohl... just a thought though...
i feel the same terra, tho i can play suikoden 3 just NOT finish it, i always stop at the very end, before the final assault right after we get sasarai, and i hate that, we get one of my fav character at the end of the game ah la la.

People say they hate the traveling system... am I the only one who likes it?? Took me long time before I found the boost button on the ps2 controller (R2 or something) But I still love it :)

The one thing I hated about this game was travel. It took so damn long to get from place to place that I began to loathe the very thought of playing this thing. Thank God for Viki, I'd never been so happy to see her before.

i love the dice game in suikoden 4. Game breaking for the win. =p i keep saving my game on 15,000 potch intervals. 30 mins later................230,000 potch and not more then 45 minutes into the game and a person can buy anything they want and becaome overpowered with gear. xD

@RobinNicoagain 4 got both a North American and European release. Your profile says you live in Finland and most PAL (European) releases cover Finland as well, so maybe you ought to look again?

@RobinNicoagain Well, you seem to understand english, so if the game truly is not in Finland, then ebay is your answer. Any pal game will work in any pal console as far as i am aware. (I buy most of my games from the UK because they are seriously way too overpriced here in Australia, and their games work no prob in my aus console)

@Crashandburn999 Hmmm... nice tip, I haven't tried any other pal things with my console, but it sounds little bit expensive and hard for me to get it (what I have read) since I don't have any cards (visa etc.). But I take a look and find out wich would be the nearest country where I could buy it. Sweden sounds like possible choice but: I will take a look.

@RobinNicoagain I don't have any credit /debit cards either. I use paypal. You just create an account with them, add your bank to it, then add funds from your bank account to your paypal account. It's pretty simple.

2 things bad about the game, the battle system only allowed 4 characters which means limited combo attacks and 2 it was too damned short. other then that it was a pretty good game.

@TKDmidgit i personally love the series coz of all de cool details like trading, the naval wars, 1 on 1 duels .... i mean it's awsome XD. besides the characters are quite cool ...... what really bummed me was that i never saw yubar after suikoden 3 ....

Omg, this music has always been sooo beautiful! I never get tired of hearing it! <3 5/5 one of the best openings of Suikoden(in my opinion), mainly because I love this song. xD

if you only have the ps2 then go for the 5'th its a great game, almost as good as suiko 2. suiko tactic is also awesome
Konami explained it enough, suikoden 4 was made to show that there is a pre suikoden 1

i just beat suikoden 3, and i got all 108 stars.
its the only suikoden i played, so i decided i want to try out another one, but this intro doesnt seem like theres any action, like suikoden 3 intro was awesome and really convincing to play.
so idk which i should play, btw do they have suikoden 1 or 2 on ps2?

I wonder y they make Suikoden 4 as the 150 years back from Suikoden 1....I think they should`ve made the story after Suikoden 3 saga so that us players could recruit Hugo just like Suikoden 2 recruiting Suikoden 1`s hero...,coz we all bust our asses to recruit all 108 stars of destiny in Suikoden 3..,hoping that we could recruit Hugo in 4.....n it`s a little bit sad that we can`t.....coz thats how I feel....but all n all Suikoden 4 is a great game to play........

this opening is a good song, confusing video, and suikoden 4 is just as good as suikoden 1. but dont get me wrong, they are both amazing.!!!!!! suikoden 1 is a little slower and harder to know what to do next. suikoden 4 is short but makes the sea travel long so the game seems long.

I strongly suggest playing the first two if you can. 1 will be a lot easier to find but if you ever get your hands on 2, you'll treasure it

Agree I have one burnt of 2 and just made 2 extra copies only to find my ps1 (mod) is dead.....surprised it lasted that long.. its a good game

I have from this day on played and finished 1,2,3 and I own 4 and 5. I waited until I got the 4th game before I continue with 5 and this game is greatly underestimated! As a sort of Suikoden expert I can say that the game does follow the typical route as the others do. It also have the magics as it was in the good old second game thank god. (I absoulty HATED the third´s magic being able to damage your team) It´s story is somewhat choppy but is managable, though bosses are tough.

Further more there as a bit of typoes in 4 but the voices (voices weren´t in 3!) are top notch! The gameplay is as it should and don´t even TRY to complain to the NEW FEATURE with the ships! As you get Viki (she´s in every game) you can teleport where you´ve been anyways... the exploration is... up to you. Personally I think you earn a great deal of money and exp along the trip. I´m actually currently gaming this so I know what I´m writing here. 29+ hours in atm.

Also, not too importants but you get to fight with JEANE (everyone´s favorite runemaster) and boy are you going to be surprised when you get her... (clothes?) I´m willing to bet she and Viki are the best runemages.... I know Viki is since er... the three other games before this one. Oh yes, there´s one more thing... seems this game is 150 years before the first one... I think this is the ancestor to Tir McDohl... just a thought though...

i feel the same terra, tho i can play suikoden 3 just NOT finish it, i always stop at the very end, before the final assault right after we get sasarai, and i hate that, we get one of my fav character at the end of the game ah la la.
anyway i still disagree with most of ppl, i love the whole suikoden serie, yeah the 4 isnt as great as the rest of the serie, but its still a good one, and i really loved the tactic

Only played II V and IV, stupid konami not releasing Suikoden III in europe, got kinda dissapointed when i played this one though the opening music is kinda nice
