my family moved to puerto rico, in 1967, another stolen island nation.
all branches of the us military have bases there, for the obvious reason you cite here. the viet nam war was on. puerto rican citizens aged 18 and older were disproportionately being drafted into military service at the time, and corporatios setting up business on the island enjoyed federal tax free status, but puerto rico then and now has no voting reps in congress, p.r. residents cant even vote for the u.s. president.
the military is for the weak.
its real easy to survive in the military:
they feed ya
house ya
and clothe ya.
its real hard surviving in the civilian world.
