  • Domestic violence was endemic in those days, so much so that the family did virtually nothing to stop Michael Cleary. However, faery lore was still very much part of every day, there are several instances of changelings in the Irish press of the time, including one instance of a woman killing a 12 year old crippled boy in order to force the faeries to return her nephew.

  • it wasnt an excuse for violence, bridgets father,aunt 5 1st cousins 2 other relations and at least 6 other neighbours were in the clearys house at one time or another over 3 days. these were different times , folk lore and superstition along side religion,it seems to me it went to far,tragic ally
