This is the only time I found the short to be more interesting than the comments, which were mostly pretty lame here. I don't think they should have commented on this one.
Geeze, I was kinda taken aback by the one "bible thumping" girl's scene that also showed her pastor talking to the church youth in the flashback. Compared to her overly 'holier than thou' opinion on drinking her pastor sounded a bit more down to earth and civil about the whole matter, kinda a shame his behavior didn't rub onto her. Because he actually made very relevant and realistic points about teen drinking. Making it a responsiblity and about good choices, etc.
No one's gonna comment on the fact that these actors look and sound like the actors who portray teenagers in these types of films? Was there no legal drinking age yet??
@rania3830 That may be true. But some children of alcoholics don't want anything to do with alcoholism or only drink on very different occasions thus they won't become alcoholics. If they're aware of it and don't want to become one they take preventative measures to not become one.
@rania3830 False. Some contributing factors (addictive personality, etc.) may be genetic, but alcoholism is far more complex than just doing the things that your ancestors did.
@Phobos1313 "The things that your ancestors did" is not direct - the 'lineal' notion masks the fact that ancestry is actually multiple and, often, diverse. Which ancestor influences you? several? more? none, even?
Remember that though you don't have an infinite number of ancestors, you certainly - we all certainly - have and had quite a few. Past easy reckoning.
So in short: even just to do what your ancestors did, is tremjously over than complex.
Seriously 76 dislikes? Either you need a drink or your drinking to much, this is just a funny MST3K, if you want to argue the movie go somewhere else.
@all66books I never said that. In fact, I know many theists that exhibit clear thinking and have conscientious judgement.
The point of my comment was that I found it ironic that a religious leader condemns the use of alcohol on the grounds that it /can/ impede critical thinking, while there are many religious doctrines that can do just that. Look up "Opium of the people" to see where I'm coming from.
@MrDuncanBelfast No thanks. Anyway, I'd be interested more specifically in which 'religious doctrines' you think impede critical thinking. There are a lot of differing religions which have within them varying religious doctrines.
@all66books I am well aware that there are many different religions and doctrines. I wasn't referring to any specific doctrines (Although "Walk by faith, not by sight" comes to mind), but rather doctrines as a whole, and following them blindly. When one goes out and shoots a homosexual, for instance, citing that their holy book told them to, it is a decision based on faith, not reason. While under the influence of alcohol, your decisions aren't based on reason either.
Note: I am merely stating that reason is complimentary to faith, not that one is superior to the other, nor am I saying that everyone who is religious is a mindless drone. Also, yay! My first YouTube debate!
@MrDuncanBelfast "When one goes out and shoots a homosexual, for instance, citing that their holy book told them to, it is a decision based on faith, not reason." OR a heterosexual. Now
as far as 'walking by faith'; well, that depends upon who - or what - you are putting your faith in. If the object of your faith is solid and altogether trustworthy, than walking by faith is actually quite reasonable. I agree with you that BLIND faith is not a good basis for planning or action.
@all66books When you put walking by faith that way, I agree wholeheartedly. Now, back to the main argument. What Reverend Brewster (wait, what?) said pertains to alcohol at its worst, and is a bit unfair. Now if you were to take his comment and replace the word "Alcohol" with "religion", and you get a rather ironic comment on the worst parts of religion. i.e. fundamentalists who are also nutjobs.
You know, I know I'll be probably be laughed at if I say this, but as hilarious and out-dated as this video is, I have to say I haven't seen anything modern like it. By that I mean, when was the last time you saw an issue presented so fairly? That didn't demonize or hyperbolize anyone? That promotes an exchange of views as opposed to argument? That actively asks the viewer to think for themselves? All we get today is people telling us to think one way or another. So that just jumped out at me.
I actually agree--it's nice to be able to watch an educational film like this that doesn't have overly dramatic music or sensationalist imagery... I resent my high school and middle school health classes ._.
@ThaMahstah Yes, but remember, the "system" wants people to drink alcohol. They make money on it, and it keep people away from other drugs. So no wonder a educational video about alcohol is positive, while cannabis would be evil...
@ThaMahstah The only "instructional" films they show kids nowadays is made by The Tides Foundation, owned by George Soros, which teach the religion of environmentalism and the sins of capitalism.
Center for alcohol studies? How DO I get a job there! I would love to study some alcohol, I have all kinds of experiments in mind. I just need a smoking hot girl, salt, some limes and Tequila.

It's not about the alcohol itself, but the amount that one drinks. It's true that some people know what their limit is, but if they don't know or care it can cause problems. I think that's what the real issue is.

Back then, people hadn't discovered that an average of 1 or 2 drinks a day has health benefits

Jesus drank wine so it is not evil to drink alcohol. I'm Christian and i hate these up tight Christians who try to control what you do.

Except if you are a sperm. If you are a sperm and get wasted, god gets quite irate.

@stonewall97
It's not about the alcohol itself, but the amount that one drinks. It's true that some people know what their limit is, but if they don't know or care it can cause problems. I think that's what the real issue is.

@stonewall97 Well I'm not Christian, and I think alcohol should be illegal. It's literally liquid poison. It's one of the worst drugs available.
