Not allways... there's nuclear, hidroelectric, wind, etc. AND, it's easier to control emissions in ONE thermo electric plant, than in 100 gasoline buses
The whole setup looks cumbersome. Why build a monorail, apart from the novelty? Switch points require massive movement. They don't look very comfortable at speed. As to not using fossil fuels or emitting gasses...where DOES the electricity come from? Magically from the air? Emissions are simply out of immediate view unless the power is generated hydroelectrically or by nuclear means.
Buring fossil fuels all over the roads is much worse than burning them at single place. Latter has the advantage that the exhausts can be scrubbed efficiently and carbon can be trapped using various techniques. Imagine fitting such this equipments in miniature forms to all the cars and buses ... is that possible? Hence (electric) rail technology is considered best form of locomotion ...
Im off to Japan in less than 2 weeks and am a train buff, I was intending to go on this Monorail and now after seeing this video I will make sure I do! Thanks.
Remember the other monorail train that passed the camera? It used that track. In the end, that station has a switch, which you see lighter in color. If the camera kept rolling you'd see the track portion in front slide left.

Environmentally clean? Not so much as burning Fossil Fuel is still required to run the mechanical equipment necessary to generate electricity.

The concept "Efficiency" and "Noise" is necessary for you.
It is more efficient to generate electricity in the power plant than it triggers the engine individually.
Moreover, electricity is quiet.

It is 45 years ago that this monorail opened a business.
It ran on the sea at that time.

Whether it seems like it to you or not, atleast you're not using fossil fuels and emitting gases on your way.

MAX Speed 80km/h
It has decelerated because it is a terminal station.

i wouldn't agree more ... i too miss japan so much ...
some spottings from video
0:50 - 1:10 some shinkansen on below right?Can someone identify that?yamabiko?
1:00 - 1:10 parallel to shinkansen i think we see yamanote sen
1:40 - 1:43 there is a terminated monorail track on left of one on which current train is. Is this track changing facility?
In both my Japan trips, I have seen this monorail from the shinkansen (as I mentioned above), but never travelled by it.
I miss Japan so much
