I have grown up, like many, only knowing the Donovan version of this tune which I have always loved. But this version seems to have more passion at certain points, I am so glad that I have now been able to find and listen to the original version.
yes, he has a beautiful voice -- Shawn's done many albums over the years, but "I'm A Loner", his first, from which this track comes, remains my favourite -- it's well worth searching out

when i knew shawn in the village, i used to beg him to sing this over and over again. he was very generous to do that.

@thatssamhesgreat -- yes, it was written by Shawn Phillips, and appeared on his first album, "I'm A Loner" (1965)
