@nickrock12 no triggers. there are 2 mics on the bass drum and one mic in the back of the room that do most of the capturing of the kick drum. One is inside the drum aimed where the beaters hit the head to capture the mostly the clacky attack, there is one just outside the kick drum that captures the tone of the shell, then the room mic has a nice wide "view" of the kick drum and the low end of the entire kit. The mic inside is EQed to focus on a range of about 1kHz-3kHz. The outside mic has..
@nickrock12 the outside mic has a narrow bandwidth eq focus around 50Hz. and a sligthly less narrow PULL of around 800Hz. 800Hz is that really boxy not clean sounding bass. There is no other way to describe it lol. The room mic is tuned similar to the outside kick mic. What i did wrong here was i didnt roll off the extreme low end below 50Hz, and the tone that resonates is too pure for my taste. The compression helps keep the signal level and not louder in some hits and softer in others.
awesome drumming, dude. just flat out. no question. just- shhhh! drumming greatness is being viewed in this video, don't spoil it with cellphones or talking! *sigh* fine, i'll end the comment.
well they ARE being miced yes. but it involves properly tuning the drums first. But some EQ on the tom tracks will get them to sound a little more pure like that
You're not wrong, your room sounds great, nice playing man, love the tom sound especially, but it all sounds really good. Just a shame its that bloody Cubase! ha!
you can hear the close mics gating out the softer hits on the toms, thats what i hate about this recording, that and its off sync. and i learned alot more about production since this video was made. CUBASE FOR LIFE!
its called a long roll. only it was sped up a bit.. you start with double strokes and slowly turn them into double bounces into a buzz roll, then back out.
love you snare sound, your cymbals and ofc your play! is it a 13" snare? my 14" tama artwood custom sounds quiet similiar, but I bought die cast hoops and invested hours of tuning... i love this sound!!!
Hey HoboCabbage this message of reading a bible isnt going towards you, its going to a freaking spammer you said like 50 angels are praying 45 are on crack and 5 are having sex or something, not trying to offend you man! Go HoboCabbage, youre awesome and your drumming is sick man go HOBO!
nice work. screw the sound...the playing was tight. It is funny how a good miked kit makes you think you are better. Nice grove and build up, nice syncopation.
thats the beauty of audio, its all subjective, i hate the way i processed the toms a lil bit too. they get gated out on the softer hits. but i still love the kickdrum sound on this vid.
DING DING DING DING!!!! we have a winner nice ear man. it sure is, i wasnt sure if anyone would catch that, its such a sick part. that solo is basically a medly of other peoples solos with slight variations.
I RECOGNICE THAT ANYWHERE. good job man you are very talented man.i posted a few drumming vids too if you want to check them out.they are black metal but, they are still a little challenging. keep up the good work man.
nope, got a mic on the inside aimed at beater about 3 inches away, to get that attack sound. a mic on the outside of the kickdrum for the more bassy resonance. and another mic in the back of the room aimed towards the kick, to get a more full image of the low end of the drumset
dude you have to tell me how you made your bass drum sound like that. Ive been wanting to have that sound for a long time :P ( your drums sound great dude)
you dont know who he is?! ok... but yeah sort of from the side. idk. but nice solo i liked it you got some awesome grooves in there. and i like your shells what are they? nice cymbals too.
FIRST, i jacked off 9 elephants, and used their semen to coat my bass drum head, then i killed 2000 infants and used their hearts as muffle devices. lolol i explain everything in some other videos look through the comments on them
Hey, I just bought 2 cad KBM412's, is that what you used on your kick? It sounds great. What would you recommend, as far as where to place it, and how to tweak it?
I have 2 18x22 tama superstar kicks (the new ones) and I'm using emad2's. Any help would be great.
Also, do you recommend the tsm411, I'm looking at those for my toms.
theres no right or wrong, on or off axis in any of these areas. about 2 inches from where the beater hits the skin (very "attacky" sounding) halfway from resonant head and beater skin aimed at beater (round attack round low end) outside or at the edge of resonant side of skin (boomy less attacky)
thats just what i use, not what you need. i want to upgrade to either an akg d112 or a shure beta 52 for the kick. and EQ. 40-70Hz (BOOM boost), 100-800Hz (BOXY cut), 1Khz-6Khz (attack cut/boost to liking)
awesome job. i love how the toms mix so well with the bass drum. i often have the problem of mixing my toms with muchhhhh more low end and my bass drum having too much attack. that snare sounds great. what kind is it?
check out my two most recent videos of my drums miked up. let me know what you think :)
2 things i hate about this video, the vid is off sync, and it just fell apart at the end, i was trying to land on one with the bass drum, somehow lost it.
