  • How did you get this bass drum sound ? trigger ? or its the compression ?

  • @nickrock12 no triggers. there are 2 mics on the bass drum and one mic in the back of the room that do most of the capturing of the kick drum. One is inside the drum aimed where the beaters hit the head to capture the mostly the clacky attack, there is one just outside the kick drum that captures the tone of the shell, then the room mic has a nice wide "view" of the kick drum and the low end of the entire kit. The mic inside is EQed to focus on a range of about 1kHz-3kHz. The outside mic has..

  • @nickrock12 the outside mic has a narrow bandwidth eq focus around 50Hz. and a sligthly less narrow PULL of around 800Hz. 800Hz is that really boxy not clean sounding bass. There is no other way to describe it lol. The room mic is tuned similar to the outside kick mic. What i did wrong here was i didnt roll off the extreme low end below 50Hz, and the tone that resonates is too pure for my taste. The compression helps keep the signal level and not louder in some hits and softer in others.

  • Groove at 1:37 is so badass. Awesome!!

  • WTF this bass !!! O_O

  • Hey, the bass drum sound like a joey jordinson (sliknot)

  • Unique drums

  • DUDE! I want you bass...

  • good sound

  • how long have you been playing drums?

  • dude tht was AWESOME with a capital A :D ur my hero hahaha

  • Very nice heads, love the sound :D beautiful kit by the way

  • what kind of snare?!?!?!

  • Hey when did you start drumming?

Fucking amazing. haha. You kept it interesting which is kinda hard for long solos :D

    Peace

  • is it fair to hate how awesome this solo sounds?

  • dude you're one of the best drummers i've ever heard!

  • Very very good.

  • awesome drumming, dude. just flat out. no question. just- shhhh! drumming greatness is being viewed in this video, don't spoil it with cellphones or talking! *sigh* fine, i'll end the comment.

  • what kind of drums do you use

    brand? wood?

  • everything i use is listed on my main channel

  • is that a 12" snare? ur kick sounds fat! just slightly over powering, but otherwise great!

  • 10"

  • it sounds amazing!

  • what kind of hats are those? nice dynamics and very clear playing!

  • the bass pedal could have sounded a bit different

  • your snare looks really small

  • its not the size that counts.. its how you use it

  • Haha, that's kinda funny. Like, you're right but they also say that about a mans junk. :P

  • that IS the joke.... lol

  • not funny.. at all..

    awsome solo though

  • thats hilarious.. what do you mean...?

  • Ahhah, true in drums yes ;) good drums, I watched all ur vids

  • I like the drums better than the drummer.

  • too bad we don't like anything bout you :O

  • compliments very good and specially your buzz roll

  • VEEEEERY NICE!!!!!

    GOOD JOB!!!!!

  • mierdaaaaa me encantO . . . besos

  • what set are you using. What wood also.

  • everything i use is listed on my main channel. its premier artist birtch

  • that was awesome

  • you should cover a song by the band rush

  • dude can u do any a7x stuff cous i just done this cover of after life and i was wondering if u can as well and see whos is better lol

    a lil compo lol

  • im a beginner at drumming

how do u get the toms to sound like that

is it a mic or smthing?

  • well they ARE being miced yes. but it involves properly tuning the drums first. But some EQ on the tom tracks will get them to sound a little more pure like that

  • How do you get a click on your bass with Cubase?

  • with EQ

  • do B.Y.O.B from soad please

  • LOVED IT!!

    great job :)

  • You're not wrong, your room sounds great, nice playing man, love the tom sound especially, but it all sounds really good. Just a shame its that bloody Cubase! ha!

    Cheers, Dean

  • you can hear the close mics gating out the softer hits on the toms, thats what i hate about this recording, that and its off sync. and i learned alot more about production since this video was made. CUBASE FOR LIFE!

  • litle snare but nice sound man!!

    drum on\m/

  • Cool work dude, very cool

  • Sweet man! Good meter. Funky set too. JJ

  • i hate your kit..sorry but it sounds hidious

    nice work tho (Y)

  • You should gate your snare, or trigger.. Then you'd sound like Mike Portnoy on Images and Words!

  • the snare is gated and compressed, screw triggers, theres no dynamic to them

  • No I mean, gate reverb.

  • oh i hear you, phil collins thing lol. i like the natural sound of this snare and this room.

  • wtf ur amazin on drums, wooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • I like how you started off with paradiddles. Im diggin your kit man. Great sound.

  • He started out with a double stroke roll, not paradiddles.

  • paradidles arent like that

  • its called a long roll. only it was sped up a bit.. you start with double strokes and slowly turn them into double bounces into a buzz roll, then back out.

  • A paradiddle is R L R R.

    He didn't do a paradiddle.

  • yo ur set sounds real gud wat kind is it?

  • i was expecting to hear a complete numpty to just play that dah-d-dah-d-d-dah over and over but that was really good. well done mate.

  • Dobbelslagsvirvel og greier. Ikke dårlig.

  • wow, nicely done mate!

  • great sounding kit, i love the bit starting at 1:10 :)

  • my favorite solo on youtube dude. not even kidding.

  • wow thanks a lot man.

  • ur not using a trigger lol

  • im not, the video is out of sync. all the sounds and this i EQued and Compressed to get it to sound like that.

  • can you do all the editing on audcity?

  • i love that bass drum sound! its just so awsome! love double bass man.

  • niceeeee

  • I like it

  • GOD YOU KICK ASSSSS

  • 1:37-1:50 sickest groove ever! GJ

  • still sounds pretty dam good

  • wow men i like thoso toms, the thnigs that make the mics :)

  • your drums sound amazing nice solo too!

  • i love the sound of those toms!

  • you know from an angle you look like Payton Manning, love your drumming man!

  • HAHAHAHA thats the second time ive gotten that!!

  • Really?

  • haha im glad im not the only one who thinks that.

  • haha, I hav that same hat.

  • love you snare sound, your cymbals and ofc your play! is it a 13" snare? my 14" tama artwood custom sounds quiet similiar, but I bought die cast hoops and invested hours of tuning... i love this sound!!!

  • mapex black panther

  • wow i loved your creation! soud with sticks were so great =]

  • wot kind of eq did u use on the toms mate?

and did u add the compression on the program of cubase or ur mixer,

    get back asap thanks

  • I love the sound of the drums!! I want to fucking jam with you, lol.

  • ????

  • Hey HoboCabbage this message of reading a bible isnt going towards you, its going to a freaking spammer you said like 50 angels are praying 45 are on crack and 5 are having sex or something, not trying to offend you man! Go HoboCabbage, youre awesome and your drumming is sick man go HOBO!

  • dude, I'm diggin your bass!

  • Nice snare, the ring sounds like a whistle.

  • hm,i oppose most the comments on here,i Love the sound of the toms and kick..they have a nice punch and tone to them

  • nice work. screw the sound...the playing was tight. It is funny how a good miked kit makes you think you are better. Nice grove and build up, nice syncopation.

  • 1:12 sounds like halo song/beat thing

  • i absolutely agree dude ;)

  • Nicely done. Hate the sound of the kick and toms like crazy, but everything else sounds good.

  • thats the beauty of audio, its all subjective, i hate the way i processed the toms a lil bit too. they get gated out on the softer hits. but i still love the kickdrum sound on this vid.

  • this is fuckin' tight.

  • Quite Impressive. Turn the Bass Drum down lol.

  • i like it where it is. "lol" noob lol

  • ...then keep it where it is.

  • man, those toms are awesome.. they sound sooo good.. and the d-kick n snare.. wat type kit is it?

  • every single piece of equipment i own is listed on my main page.

  • is that the part from " take the time"?

  • DING DING DING DING!!!! we have a winner nice ear man. it sure is, i wasnt sure if anyone would catch that, its such a sick part. that solo is basically a medly of other peoples solos with slight variations.

  • I RECOGNICE THAT ANYWHERE. good job man you are very talented man.i posted a few drumming vids too if you want to check them out.they are black metal but, they are still a little challenging. keep up the good work man.

  • thank you very much

  • nice sound and thoughts of d-base

  • nice. you can tell you're a portnoy fan lol. i love your set up.

  • ur bass drum is awosme

  • awesome drummin Hobo, you are pretty damn good.

    this is Bobo

  • i think ur bass drum is a little bit too muffled.

  • its not muffled at all

  • are you using triggers?

  • nope, got a mic on the inside aimed at beater about 3 inches away, to get that attack sound. a mic on the outside of the kickdrum for the more bassy resonance. and another mic in the back of the room aimed towards the kick, to get a more full image of the low end of the drumset

  • Nice!Impressive for sure!

    Keep up the great work.

  • holy shit dude.....Awesome. what kind of double bass pedal...i got an iron cobra...just waiting for my cymbals to come in

  • I love your cymbals, HHX rules!

  • magic

  • portnoy jr. bih..lol..nice solo bro..peace.

  • Mike portnoy's rithm'

Very nice kit, nice sounding, well played :)

    good job

  • how did u get that that sound? teach me how to tune my drums like that.

  • nice man. ur snare looks tiny, like 10 or 12 inch.

  • yo nice drum kit and nice drumming

  • sounds awesome.

  • AWESOME!

  • kick ass dude! u play awsome and ur set sounds bad ass

  • i didnt know peyton manning played the drums?!?!

  • lolol lemmie google that name, do i look like him or what?

  • you dont know who he is?! ok... but yeah sort of from the side. idk. but nice solo i liked it you got some awesome grooves in there. and i like your shells what are they? nice cymbals too.

  • its a premier artist birtch series kit, and a mapex black panther 10" snare. got aax hhx aa and aaxtreme cymbals

  • this sounds awesome

  • That was cool! How did you make your bass drum sound so good?

  • FIRST, i jacked off 9 elephants, and used their semen to coat my bass drum head, then i killed 2000 infants and used their hearts as muffle devices. lolol i explain everything in some other videos look through the comments on them

  • Lol, that was freaking awesome man. Alright, I'll check em. Thanks. so, 9 elephants? Thanks.

  • haha that makes my day. Keep up the good drumming and the smartass remarks. it makes the boring internet more interesting

  • your awesome....btw your bass drums eq sounds sweet

  • that may have been the coolest drum video i have ever seen on youtube. out of the pros too man.

  • Hey, I just bought 2 cad KBM412's, is that what you used on your kick? It sounds great. What would you recommend, as far as where to place it, and how to tweak it?

I have 2 18x22 tama superstar kicks (the new ones) and I'm using emad2's. Any help would be great.

Also, do you recommend the tsm411, I'm looking at those for my toms.

  • theres no right or wrong, on or off axis in any of these areas. about 2 inches from where the beater hits the skin (very "attacky" sounding) halfway from resonant head and beater skin aimed at beater (round attack round low end) outside or at the edge of resonant side of skin (boomy less attacky)

  • thats just what i use, not what you need. i want to upgrade to either an akg d112 or a shure beta 52 for the kick. and EQ. 40-70Hz (BOOM boost), 100-800Hz (BOXY cut), 1Khz-6Khz (attack cut/boost to liking)

  • oh and 70-100 or so is thud, cut or boost to liking

  • could u tell me all ur microphone equiptment

  • here is a list of every piece of audio device i use, for anyones reference, as i have alot of questions about what i use.

    Software- Cubase LE

Interface(s)- Tascam FW 1884, Tascam US 122, SB Live sound card (for an extra stereo input) (out of word sync)

  • Cables - Monster, and a few random others.

Out Board Gear - Lexicon MX200 dual verb effects processor, Behringer Autocom Pro Compressor/Limiter Expander/Gate, Yamaha MG 16/4 standalone mixer.

  • Microphones- Conedensers- Audio Technica 3035, 2 CAD GXL 1200s, Shure SM 86

    Dynamic - 4 Shure sm 57s, CAD KBM412 (lg diaphram), and 1 CAD TSM411.

  • excellent solo. what kind of snare is that ?

  • thank you, a mapex black panther

  • awesome job. i love how the toms mix so well with the bass drum. i often have the problem of mixing my toms with muchhhhh more low end and my bass drum having too much attack. that snare sounds great. what kind is it?

check out my two most recent videos of my drums miked up. let me know what you think :)

  • Nice set up.

  • thanks

  • 2 things i hate about this video, the vid is off sync, and it just fell apart at the end, i was trying to land on one with the bass drum, somehow lost it.

  • mike portnoy. period.

  • hahaha, yea im not denying that half of that solo is directly off a mike portnoy solo

  • it does NOT matter. it's still sick.

  • The toms sound great...
