The market for the Subbie is not the Audi crowd. It is for folks, young and old, who are outdoor oriented. They don't really fuss over plain gauges, styling cues, or being pretentious.
However, the base Forester skimps bad on normal 'outdoor use" items that were readily available prior; body molding, roof rack, mud flaps etc. But, nothing that Weathertech, Rally Mud Flaps, and Thule can't solve more cheaply than OEM.
I really think they went of topic. "Plastic Feel"? "boring Dash"? but a mercedes or a audi... besides, you should be focusing on the road not the dash! what else you want in it? No Sat Nav in it a negative thing? 2010 forester has it and the price is ridiculous, rather buy a tom tom or something and i can use it on any car i want... Subaru s***s on even some European cars
@JAYFROMHARLEM I agree! I've got a WRX and a Forester. I love them both and can say that the Forester is a very capable vehicle on and off road. These clowns are tripping, but they are also from Canada, where they can actually get the japanese versions easier than we can in the US. Maybe that is why they are complaining about the interior and such. Oh well, Subaru FTW!!!
Wow... these too are terrible. Some good points, but nothing we haven't heard from every other source. It is odd that they got the fuel economy wrong; the Forester scores better than the RAV4 and CRV, not worse. Not sure how they screwed that up.
The reviewers really missed the mark, I think. There is a large niche in the marketplace for this EXTREMELY functional vehicle. There are very few cars available with the functionality, value, MPG, practicality, and simplicity of the new 2010 Forester. If the car were to "stand out", it wouldn't reflect the qualities that this market segment would desire. I'm buying one this summer.
Everyone complaining about the center stack... you're completely missing the point. This entire vehicle is about function, not form. Ever heard of the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) method? Sure all the vehicles with a million buttons at cool angle look good, but try finding the button you're searching for without taking your eyes off the road for 5+ seconds. Might not be as pretty, but it's quite a bit smarter.
The new 2009-2010 Forester is for people wanting a simple and easy to use vehicle. I own a 2004 Outback SW and would seriously go for a new Forester to replace it if "Old Trusty" didn't still have loads of life left in it.
got a 2010 forester, its pretty cool. I like the styling, it doesn't look feminine like the CRV or ugly like the Rav 4 interior is just fine for me, I dont need flowers on my dash board.
The Centre Dash is awkwardly designed, most other cars have the A/C and Radio units built-in. The way the silver panels sweeps down on the passenger side also seems a bit forced and don't flow nicely enough compared to other vehicles say the Mazda 3. Otherwise Subaru uses good quality interior materials and their cars are very reliable.

The new Forester is on a more plain even field with some of the other compact SUVs: Ford Escape, Rav 4, & Honda CRV..
...RIGHT..
...AND NONE OF THOSE OTHER SUVs HAVE A TRUE SYMETRICAL AWD SYSTEM.
If you want a real AWD vehicle, get a Subaru.

GREAT CARS but you have to know you can afford the up keep.
My valve cover gaskets went, $400. A vacuum occured under the manifold $1000.
The turbo went $1400.
I wanted to keep the car but could not afford it, the dealer was 40 miles away and I had to take off work to get there and back.
Get one if you have the lifestyle to keep it running correctly.

Subaru needs to redesign the interior of the Forester & Impreza before I will even consider trading in my 05's
