You guys are far too uptight. He's covered it. He's made it his own. That's what the value of a cover should be. If it sounded just like Chuck Berry's version (great as it is) it would just be a pale imitation. This is certainly not going to be to everyone's taste. But it's not just a copy its a true cover.
PT 3 Pat Boone? Not my style. I dont judge by color, referring to your "white boys blues". Plain facts. The song is a rocker. Written as a rocker. Performed as a rocker. Passed down as such. EVERY version Ive ever heard maintained this mantra. Yeah, some were great, some not so. But all of them, sounded like JBG. Sorry, this doesnt. The song is completely reworked, excepting the lyrics.
PT 2 Thorogood may not be a "true" blues guy, but he carries the spirit of those before him, and keeps their music alive for future generations. Ive heard lots of versions of Long Tall Sally. Boones, is FAR down my list of favs. But at least he maintains the spirit of the song, and THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED. Arkologist, I guess thats what it comes down to.
PT 1 Hey, I understand to each his own. Some people obviously will dig this. This is coming from someone who has spent a great deal of my spare time listening to Chuck, reading about him, hearing thousands of cover versions. So I guess Im a lay expert. No, I dont want a rote note for note cover version. But I think there should be a commonality in a cover. IMHO.

Im all for each artist interpeting a song in their own style. George Thorogood, Dave Edmunds, Stones, Georgia Satellites take several Berry songs, and put their own stamp on them. But this has got to be the worst Ive ever heard. Almost sacriligous to take this Rock and Roll National Anthem and turn it upside down like this. Let alone turning it into a rap song. Doesnt even come close of staying in the spirit of the song. Horrible.
Hey if you want the spirit of the original why listen to any but Berry's immortal version in the first place? If you want the same old rerun white boy blues versions go ahead, stick to George Thorolame to the bone. Pat Boone's rendition of "Long Tall Sally" might be more to your liking if that's is the sort of Right-side up "anthem" you prefer. Lighten up, buddy.
@Nunyabizquick Brilliant mature comment. You like it great, if someone else doesnt, great. This is a horrible, miserable, sad, zombie, slow, acid-tripping, version. Just my opinion.
Just discovered Johnny Dowd today...I have been missing so much...I think Beck has been listening to him at some point too...
