i made it 3x4 and only had one lava and 2 waters the bottom one and the left side that way it makes one cobble sonte at a time but i had it in my house for when i was building my castle so it was much handier then haveing one outside specialy with critters and such running amok.

There's no point in creating water on lower layer. Actually, it messes up the current. Water from higher layer is enough, also it brings all items to you, not to corners.

I made one underground. This is probably the fastest cobblestone machine there is, and there's the least chance of the item getting burned.

However, I ran into a problem. The current in the corners has no way of reaching the middle. So I solved this by adding an extra 2 squares in the middle of the basin, digging a 2x2 square in the front middle, and adding water at the corners, making a current that flows directly to the front centermost blocks.

@DoutcheGaming Imagine that your colony/house/castle/small wooden hovel is surrounded by mobs. dozens upon dozens. Getting out of your house to gather cobblestone might present a problem.

Besides, This allows you to have unlimited cobblestone without tearing up the landscape or delving into caves.
