For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9).
You certainly can make spiritual progress by what you do. Try this... get rid of your TV, and then use a portion of that time to read and really really pray. You will certainly be more spiritual and feel MUCH better in yourself. So, that is something YOU CAN DO to make spiritual progress.
The error blinkwater makes is that he divides the Law up into segments (something I learned in Bible school too but is false); the moral law, the ceremonial law, the civil law. While we may be able to discern these elements, the Scripture rather teaches us that the Law is ONE! So ALL of it had to be nailed to the tree in order that we have new life in Jesus Christ.
Hi friend, i love you with the love of Yahushua. 3years ago i started praying to God to remove my religeous glasses so that i can see the Word as He sees it.i really desired this cause i felt something is wrong in my christian life. The floodgates of Yahwehs revelations opened on me 6 months ago,now i experience His love and grace daily cause both is linked to doing His will(commandments)
Grace is not an excuse to sin but to keep the commands(Titus2:11-12) Matt.7:23 YahshuaActually said that the so called saved people must depart from Him cause they practise LAWLESSNESS.Jesus did not come because we cant keep the law,but to show us how to keep it(John15:10and 1John2:6).Grace is the ability to live righteous(Titus2:11-12).there is forgiveness for my sin when i walk in the light(1John1:7).i will always only give scriptures and not my own views.
Rom.2:13and 1Cor.7:19Paul say its important to keep the commands.Whats salvation?Ask Yahshua(Jesus)to forgive your previos sins(Rom.3:25)and then keep Yahwehs commands so that you sin no more cause sin=lawlessness(1John3:4)Yahwehs moral law is spiritual,so when your reborn in the spirit, you have the ability to keep His commands(Ex.20)Judgment laws are done away with cause Yahshua is our perfect sacrifice.love=keeping the commands(1John5:3and 2John1:6)salvation=keep commands(Matt.19:17+Rev.22:14)
It seems from both of your posts that you believe salvation is asking for forgiveness for past sins and then keeping the commandments from now on. That viewpoint stands in stark contradiction to the gospel as taught in the NT. Salvation is ALL by grace and has NOTHING to do with keeping the commandments. Jesus came precisely because we could not keep the law. I assume you surely wouldn't say you perfectly keep the commandments now that you've asked him to forgive your sins. Thats why it's grace.
@blinkwater Romans 10:4 Christ is the end of the law for every believer.
No one can keep the law with perfection, Jesus went beyond the law to count our thought-life. This is why Jesus had to come & save us. We have the better covenant if redeemed we have the Holy Spirit within, not outward laws on tablets of stone. If you break one law you were guilty of them all even your thought life sins.
@NotFlaking Say that to the legalist hypocrites who claim they keep the law. They don't keep all of the 613 laws, much less with perfection, so they are guilty of picking and choosing, and guilty of breaking a few laws, thus guilty of breaking them all. I pray that they will come to Christ to be healed of their hypocrisy...
@blinkwater Our position in Christ is what gives us right-standing (justification), not the law. Christians need a better grasp of the meaning of Grace (unmerited = unearned favor), paid in full by Jesus on the Cross, not by keeping the law.
@NotFlaking Gal.3:24 The law was our school master to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
Gal.3:25 but after faith (means faith in Jesus) has come we are no longer under a school master
Romans 3:20 Therefore by deeds of the law no flesh will be declared righteous in his sight, by the law we have the knowledge of sin. This law points out our guilt & inability to keep the law to perfection. Under the New Covenant Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to lead & guide us into all truth!
Law vs Grace: You speed until you see spot a Police Officer near by. You only slow down so you don't face the penalty of the law but after the Police drives away you continue to speed even though you had a knowledge of the speed law. The law did nothing to change your desire to speed, it only gave you the knowledge of the speed law. The Better Covenant is grace which includes the free gift of the Holy Spirit to empower us to change not just the outward law but the indwelling of the Spirit.
Re-read Romans 3:20 after you read the example of speeding, to get the meaning of the outward law vs the Holy Spirit. They did not have the Holy Spirit under the Old Covenant to dwell within everyone like we have after Jesus died and sent him to us, therefore we have the better Covenant under the New Covenant & Dispensation of Grace (Age of Grace).
Titus2:11-12 say grace is to live a righteous life. Righteousness=keeping the commandments (Luke1:6 and Deut.6:25)Which commands? The moral law(10 commandments)Paul was referring to the judgment laws which was the sacrifice laws, not the moral law which will always be in affect(Matt.5:17-20)Paul start ch.3 with Yahshua being portraid as crucified for he explained to them that Yahshua is there perfect sacrifice, they can not go back to sacrifice animals(Sacrificial laws).Yahweh bless you!!!!

Legalism refuted by one verse:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9).

1Jo3:4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
Rom3:23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Gal2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, IS THEREFORE CHRIST THE MINISTER OF SIN? GOD FORBID.
SIN = TRANSGRESSION OF GOD'S LAW AND ANY COMMANDMENT CONTAINED THEREIN. GET IT STRAIGHT!
