Yes, of course I am a privileged person, but I also am quite modest. I have the privilege to live in a time where Jews have regained control of their own country and I am always grateful that I am so lucky, unlike many of my ancestors. But I am not a Jew from Europe. I was born here, my father was born in Israel, and his father came here from Baghdad. Baghdad is not in Europe. My grandmother was born here in a Jewish family that traces its roots in Jerusalem multiple generations.

Actually, there is a considerable Bahai community in Israel. Haifa is the home to the Bahai world centre &there are important shrines for the Bahai here. I am sure Israel would grant refugee status to Iranian Bahai, just as it did to Darfur refugees, but if we make a public statement it would just make things bad for the persecuted Bahai community in Iran--already many have been arrested for their suspected ties to Israel and accused of spying, but any who come would probably be welcome.

The Israeli settlements have rendered the West Bank a fragmented piece of land that is inaccessible to Palestinians. To get from Hebron to Ramallah it's a 3 hour drive (interrupted by many checkpoints) passing trough Bethlehem and Jerusalem when a direct drive between the 2 cities is less than an hour long.

Most recently I read an article about the Lacota who are looking into the feasibility of establishing a state within the US under their own authority. Aside from lineage the problem relates to property rights as they are legally. The simplest method would be for Native Americans to purchase property.
