  • its so common in malaysia almost every malaysian born chinese kid know how to make it....i know it too....and i think your paper is too small and had a hard time doing the part24....if you had clumsy hands it will break

  • @FlamerzZz

I apologize about that. I'm far from being perfect... I do my best, even when I don't realize that I could do better...

  • im having problems on 8:42 part thingy pls help me

  • @MegaDtour

    Oh, you mean Step 25.

    Here it comes its description.

Basically, after step 24 the boat has *outer* white bottom: with step 25 we have to make that white part an *inner* bottom!

Not only: at the end of step 24 you have those side walls: their inner parts must become outer ones.

In order to make step 25, you have to press all the white bottom and, at the same time, to reverse those side walls.

    Hope this helps.

    ^_^

  • thimmbs up if u think this guy's a guenius!!!!!!!!

  • @Sopwith16

You're too kind, thank you so much... I'm not a genius, for sure... but, well... I just need to click the thumb-up on your comment!

    ;-D

  • it hard

  • @jakema151

Feel free to let me know on what step(s) you'd like to have some help: I could write down a written explanation, for example!

    :-)

  • sampan? Wow thats a malay word haha

  • @asyrafxxx

...and, as far as I've read, the same word is also traditionally used in China!

    :-)

  • @danbergam ...and, as far as I've know, chinese people migrate here(Malaysia) long time ago... :P

  • @asyrafxxx

Well, that really explains it all! ;-D

Isn't that great when each single day one can learn a new thing?!

Thank you both for sharing your knowledge!

    ^_^

  • @danbergam sure :)

  • The sampan was awesome! Thank you so much for making these videos. They are being very helpful

  • @copafish1

Thanks to you, for such nice and rewarding comments! I'm constantly adding new tutorials... so, stay tuned!

    :-D

  • where is # 12 ?

  • @PN2269

Step #12 is the repetition of Step #11: only, Step #11 is applied to a side and Step #12 is applied to the opposite side!

Hope this helps: in any case, feel free to ask!

    :-)

  • Symbolizing: "may the dreams you had become your destiny". Through you i made a person happy. Isn't this an art?

  • @DMInfernoGR

Anyway... me I've only put down the instructions; but you, and only you, have found in yourself the idea, the intention, the will, the patience, the creativity and the time for to make that beautiful and meaningful gift real!

    ^_^

  • @DMInfernog gago

  • Art is not the knowledge of creation but the creation itself. Knowing to craft origami makes you a scholar at most. Creating something is the art itself. It is your art, not somebody else's.

You took a small piece of paper and created something beautiful so, at least in my eyes and the eyes of those sane enough, you are the artist and it is your art.

I tried to create a sampan for my girlfriend, wrote "i love you" in runic inside and "dream" in japanese in the back and "destiny" in the front.

  • @DMInfernoGR

    :-D

I never thought about the whole thing in this way... it's very suggestive, I have to say, and rewarding too... but I still see myself more like... an artisan, reproducing someone else's creation!

You're very creative too, for the way you've arranged those words on the sampan, I'm sure she has been appreciating it very, very much!

  • Incredible! Awsome! Perfect! There are no words to describe your art! Thanks a lot for all the hard work you do to teach your art and style to people!

And i really liked this boat, or sampan if you want (although i do not know what that really is). You know what to teach and how to teach. =)

    Superb!

  • @DMInfernoGR

Today it hasn't been the best day of my Life; nothing tragic, but it hasn't been that good, though.

Your words, as much as the ones from some dear friends, are now here, warming my heart and putting a big, rewarding smile on my face!

Do you realize how much it means each single word you wrote?! More than I can say!

    Thank you so much!!!

    :-D

    P.S.

It isn't really *my* art, so far I only have a couple of original origami figures... but it's my style, definitely!

    :-D

  • FUCKIN STUPID

  • @TheLuigiManFan

    What's stupid, in your opinion?

  • @danbergam uhhhhh.....anything but luigi

  • @TheLuigiManFan So... here it comes my reasoning. Me. You. We are *not* Luigi. Are we stupid, then? No! Nobody in the world *is* Luigi (I guess you refer to Luigi from Mario Bros): so, are all the human beings "stupid"? O_o Let's try again. Do you like to eat? Do you like music? Do you like summer? These things are not related to Luigi... do you really consider them "stupid"? One day you'll open your eyes and will realize that there's way more in Life than Luigi.
  • @danbergam OK UHHHHHH....OK

  • your hands ar huge or small paper

  • @fuzzyarmpits

Probably both of these... and the effect of perspective!

    ^_^

  • I cordially invite you to rate it, add it to your favourites and comment it!

  • AWSOME!!!!

  • @ibrahom051203

    Your words are awesome too!

    :-)

  • i made it...

  • @SuperRihanna17

Thank you very much for letting me know!

    :-)

  • @Neakiaro

Step #11 = in the sequence is the #11.

Repeat Step #11 = in the sequence is the #12.

Step #13 = in the sequence is the #13, not the #12.

So, there is not formal "step #12" in this video, according to this kind of numbering.

More and more origami tutorials will come! ^_^

  • my daughter and I just managed to make our first sampan boats while following your vid! thanks!

  • @sirtophamhatt

It's me, that needs to thank you for having put a smile on my face, with such sweet words: it's so great that you take your time to play with your daughter (sadly, we live in such a fast and busy life that it doesn't always happen), and just one of those traditional games that have so much to teach in terms of patience, will... imagination!

    ^_^

  • gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  • If you want to criticize someone you really need to find a better, more proper way; otherwise, you only risk to give a bad impression of yourself... just like happened now!

Please, ask yourself what are you doing (and *why*!!!) to this world: are you trying to making a better place of it or are you simply trying to ruin it?

Well, remember: this is the world in which you live... the same world in which, one day, your children will live too.

I wish you to understand, one day,

    Have a good day.

  • confusing!

  • I cannot help you, if you aren't more specific!

    What step/s is/are confusing you?

  • im six and i did it

  • And me, I congratulate with you!

    ^_^

  • wow ur not six, six year cannot typed and i dont think a parent would let a six year old have an account

  • also, what's that thing you did with your hands at the end? it scared me =(

  • Oh, come on, it's just me waving my hand and fingers at the end of an unharming origami tutorial!!!

There are so many real things, in this world, for which we should really be scared!

  • are you serious? you couldn't just grab another piece of paper to start over?

  • The final result isn't influenced by that.

And, there was no reason for to waste a piece of paper: in facts, I was going to exactly re-make the same sequence of folds.

  • Nice little boat :) For those who are missing the idea of the last step. You really need to turn the boat inside out. Don't be araid to break it. It takes a bit of pushing and pulling to get it right.

  • Thank you very much!

  • step 25 is impossible

  • If it was impossible, I wouldn't be able to do it... even more in front of the camera!

    Now.

Just pay a lot of attention, and once you've understood how I do it, try and try again.

    You'll succeed.

  • ur welcome = )

  • Cool

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial. I plan on making this boat for a social studies project i give you many thanks!

  • Now, this is interesting and makes me quite curious.

Please, if and when you want, keep me informed/updated with that project of yours.

    Thanks to you.

  • i can get all but the last step, where you have to flip the boat over and tuck in the middle... :( whats the trick?

  • Basically, after step 24 the boat has *outer* white bottom.

With step 25 we have to make that white part an *inner* bottom!

Not only: at the end of step 24 you have those side walls: their inner parts must become outer ones.

As you can see you have to press all the white bottom and, at the same time, to reverse those side walls.

    Hope this clarifies everything.

  • you suck

  • Criticism is always accepted... even appreciated, if it's politely expressed and argumented.

Sadly, it seems to me that the definition above ("politely expressed and argumented") doesn't apply to your words.

    Have a good day.

  • English is not my first language, and I'm not an origami experte: hence I'm not confident enough with both to the point of making the origami model and explaining it at the same time.

There's no really need, anyway, to make another video: look a step, press the pause button, then reply it on your paper model... it's all you need to succeed.

What are the steps giving you problems?

  • any time i can show u how to make an origami figure so u can make a tutorial of that so anyways thnx dam!!!

  • I like to chose myself the origami figures to demonstrate, but, thank you, anyway, for the kind offer.

  • 4:58 shows the boat finished for one second for no reason wuht so ever

  • I'm sorry, but I have to contradict you.

In the beginning, YT used to chose the frame at the middle of the length of a video for to represent it in the page and in the search result.

It was a very useful feature, because it used to give the chance to everyone to know in advance how the origami model was meant to be.

Now YT choses that thumbnail randomly, but for old videos that feature remains.

Hence, in those days I had a very specific reason for to intentionally put that image there.

  • man i cant do the last step.....

for some reason i cant make it stand!!!

it falls at one sid or at the other.....

  • I suppose you have to manipulate it a bit...

  • you know dan, next time in the video please dont pause and point the corners for a long time. it gives me a temper because it takes a long while to wait for you. pretty much a waste of time. oh and btw nice video

  • The problem is that I'm a beginner, so I wouldn't be able to make it faster than this even if I wanted to... ^_^;;

    Anyway, thank you!

  • This is my 8th origami figure, and I'm quite pleased! I've now decided to make some sort of a creative "plant-scene"in my apartment; I think I'd buy a tree and some fake plants around it, and then place my origami figures in and around it to create a cool origami/flora hybrid work of art! :-) Thanks danbergam for your time and patience and definite help!

  • Thanks to you, for having taken your time to write such kind words and for share with us such a nice and creative idea!

    Have a happy origami time!

  • thanks for the help! i sub u, i rate u, and i love u the way u teach me!!!! XDDD lol. also got addicted to origami, at first i was quite slow and now i'm an novice :)

  • Thanks to you, for your kind words and support!

Origami always makes this effect, it's quite easy to become addicted to it!

    ^_^

    Thank you for everything.

  • SUCK IT

  • cool! :)

  • Thank you.

  • yeah btw i did oragami for a math project i wanna thank you for putting this tutorials, because they helped me ALOT in getting 100

    thanks

and i got addicted to origami in the process so thanks again

  • Thanks to you, for letting me know about it: it's always great to know to have concretely helped someone.

    Congratulation for your great result!

  • OMG I LOVE YOU YOU ROCK IT WORKED. EVERY VIDEO OF YOURS IS THE BEST EVER. I NEVER HAVE TO TRY MILLIONS OF TIMES AND THEY LOOK GREAT. Ive made a Iris Flower a waterlilly and now a boat from you WOW YOU ARE THE BEST I LOVE YOU IT WORKS WOWOWOWOWO

  • Your happiness and enjoyement are a great reward to me, really!

Thank you so much for your very kind words, you've put a big smile on my face!

    ^_^

  • I hate this Dumb Boat. It never seems to work for me. At 6:30 your to thing Make a V shape , They dont touch ... But On mine they touch and tthey go over each other Help?

  • Hm. One possible solution is to unfold it and to check out each single step, for to be sure to have made everything correctly...

  • how come when i made mine inside out i didn't have those two hoods over the ends of the boat? did do something wrong?

  • For to have the same result each step has to be made in the very same way.

    To repeat anything usually helps.

  • tank u tank u :) only origami lesson i didnt have to use 5 papers

  • That's a good thing, indeed: so you have 4 papers left for to make other ones!

    ^_^

    You're very welcome!

    :-)

  • You seem like a very calm person. You respond positively to negative comments no matter how bad and you never lose it.

Your instructions are clear and simple and it turned out great.

And so for that I am subscribing:)

  • You're too kind! ^_^

About the negativity... well, I've learnt the to reply to it with other negativity would not stop it at all!

About the instructions... thank you so much for your words, I do my best for to make it clear and simple!

    ^_^

About your subscription... thank you so much!

    :-D

  • i can make alot of things with paper can u danbergam?

  • No, I can't make many things with paper, but I'm ok with it.

I have a lot of interests (origami is just one of them): movie making, music composing and playing, novels and songs writing, cooking, paleontology... reading, thinking, meditating... understanding the human kind!

I think Life is really too short, if we consider all the things a person can learn, discover and do...

  • really have u written any novels?

  • Yes, I did it... mostly short and a few very long!

  • when i get a chance i will eventually make a video how to make a boat and a little better than yours you should whatch it to get an idea[im not trying to brag. your better than me at everything else!!!]

  • Don't worry, I don't feel bragged and I don't absolutely consider myself an origami master nor teacher.

I'm just a newbie, nothing more than this, and I'm always ready to learn something new!

Looking forward to see your version of the boat.

  • Another approach to showing the folding would be to do a stop action version without any hands at all.

  • For sure, stop action origami is spectacular.

But, honestly, I don't really think that he may be better for tutorials.

Because watches and folds... uses its hands and fingers!

To show the fingers and what they do is the closest thing to what who's watching and folding ends seeing and doing!

  • Very nice. I think it would be easier to fold and see what is happening if you used a larger piece of paper.

  • You're probably right. But, on the other side, a bigger piece of paper would force me to keep my hands at a greater distance from my cam... but, for the particular way I film, this would probably make more difficult for me to make the various steps... anyway, I'll eventually try to experiment with different (and bigger) sizes of paper!

  • Great job!

    You're welcome! ^_^

Hope this helps, even if english is not my first language...

  • this is nice and it really floats!

  • It's the best part, maybe: when an origami design not only looks like an object... but also (somehow) has the same functions!

    ^_^

  • how to do cute standing statue?any idea??

  • I've found the instructions for a human figure that can actually stand up... but it requires a special paper for to come out well...

I'm still searching for a nice (but not too difficult) human figure!

    Thank you for asking! ^_^

  • let me knoe if you discovered it.so fun to put the standing statue on study table.

    thanx again ;]

  • blu blu blu

  • shut up

  • Don't know if you noticed, but me I didn't tell you to shut up: I mean, I kindly replied.

    Guess what?

I'm not telling you to shut up even now!

  • thanks

  • You're welcome! :-)

  • hey danbergam! i made it with no doubt. i saw ther videos and it was hard, but u made it so easy! thanks so much. becuz of u all my frends are jealous becuz they dont know my secret trix of origami. hehe ^-^

  • Hey, Nariisul2!

I'm so glad that you've found my videos easy to follow!

Oh, I'm sure that one of these days you'll end teaching to your friends all these tricks!

But, for now, well... I guess that you are enjoying the power coming from the knowledge of these origami secrets! xD

    MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    xD

    :-)

  • that is BORING!!!

  • Origami in itself or this video?

Luckily, Life is various enough for to offer any kind of hobbies for all the possible tastes.

  • thank you, it made it "yay"...came out perfect alright!

  • Thank you very much!

It's always great to know it, when they come out well! :-D

  • WHOA, I HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE. its in my korean origami book too. but ive never seen it out on youtube before. just in my own book in my desk in my room. cool. and from the vids of this ive seen just now, people make many variations of this, usually just one step different. but really they are all the same in general. 5 stars!

  • As far as I know, even this origami is a traditional one!

And you're right, I think I've seen too at least one variation of it!

Thank you for stopping by! :-)

  • somehow, the origami world seems all in touch with each other, from origami in america, all the way to asia. cant wait for more videos!

  • You made a really good point, indeed!

Origami truly is a passion joining people from the whole world!

More videos will come, by the way! ;-)

And... "vai"? I know quite well the music of that genius!

"For the love of God" is my favorite in absolute! :-)

  • oopsy daisy. must have used my cousins account. what i said on vai6666's comment is actually me. sry, should have checked who was logged on.

  • ^_^

Don't worry, with multiple accounts this kind of things happens a lot of times!

    :-)

  • ITS ACTUALLY MY COUSIN'S! x)

  • Do your cousin could eventually login... with your account?!?!

    Oh, my... xD

  • now thats a scary thought! x)

  • Scary, for you... and quite confusing, for me!

    xD

  • i think its a better boat when its upside down and step 25 was hard i couldnt do it

  • I just followed the diagrams I had at my disposal: I'm not yet comfortable enough in doing variations of origami designs!

About step 25, try to read what I wrote to a person asking me about it...

After the step 24 the ship has a white *outer* bottom.

With step 25, you manage to make that surface become a white *inner* bottom.

Hope this helps: just... don't give up! :-)

  • if you put it in water, the paper would get all wet and rip...:(

  • I think it may depend on the type of paper: for sure, as you say, if made with the wrong one it could end in that way... but if made with the right one...

Actually, there are some types of paper resistant to water... anyway, this was a really good point! ^_^

  • thanks danbergam. i finally got it! it looks great

  • Yay! I was sure you would have got it! ^_^

Yeah, that boat really looks great... it's so 3D!!!

    Traditional origami models rule! :-)

  • okay. um i got everything except step 25. though the origami sampan is awesome. good job

  • Well, basically after the step 24 the ship has a white *outer* bottom.

With step 25, you manage to make that surface become a white *inner* bottom.

Some steps come out correctly after some tries... I'm sure you'll get it, just watch it again and try to do the same moves...

Once more, thank you for your kindness!

  • Daaaan..

    I Loveeed it.

Your videos are more and more interesting *-*'

This 'Sampan' is very bestiful, I did 2 ..

    one for my little sister..hehe

She is playing with one. ;)

    =*

    Fraan.

  • Thank you so much, Fraaaaaaaaan! :-D

Yeah, it's a really nice model!

And it floats in the water... what could we ask more?! ^_^

    You made me smile!

    Thank you!

    =*

    Dan

  • your clumsy like me then i recorded the whole thing for the fish then knocked the camera over

  • Yes, definitely! xD

Also, sometimes, when I wave my hands, as for to say - hello! -, I end hitting the origami model! xD

Now, this is funny, for persons that want to show how to do origami... a gentle, ancient and *delicate* art!

    [BUMP!] [BONK!] [CRASH!]

Oh well! Perfection is not of this world! ;-)

  • oh and another time when i did my box i did it all then deleted it off the camera =P

  • And me, when I recorded my improvised suite for guitar (the N.10, that I had to split in 3 videos!), I recorded the audio... but I forgot to press the "record" button on the camera as well!

    =P

Haha, looks like we can be very, very clumsy, sometimes! xD

  • xD

Oh, origami may seem complicated (and sometimes it is! ;-D)... but I'd say that it's also a lot of fun! :-)

    Thank you, David and Charmaine!

    Daniele

  • bro this is Genius i love it :0D

  • Ah, thank you very much, bro!

Yeah, it's amazing all the 3D figures you can obtain from a simple square of paper! :-D

  • wow quick reply... sure there is i did a lil paper foldin myself when i was a kid, never was any good will have to show my girl friend ur videos she wud love it!

you do a great job bro
