seriously tho Layne looks so thin and frail here it is sad.. He still killed it tho on both songs but we die young especially.... I love Layne he is the man
I remember watching this on TV the first airing when I was 15 , I really wasnt into Aic yet at the time , but it came on and I started slowly getting up and moving closer to the tv until i was sitting on the floor 2 feet away in total awe. At that point in my life I realized what Rock music was meant to sound like. Then I started playing guitar and been playing ever since. That was 16 years ago.
@floydsteaks i second that. letterman goes for the handshake but isn't even looking at layne as he's talking to the camera. then he drags layne back as layne's walking off.
He always had great bands on his show, Alice In Chains, Megadeth, Sex Pistols, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Black Sabbath and others.
the gay letterman band is covering the main riff in Again. Jerry is playin from the A string and up not the low E string until We Die YOung, then he takes over the lead....
@facetoface0630 some stiff who is probably on the david letterman band. certainly wouldnt be the first time one of daves dorky band members performed with the music guests.
Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's while watching and listening to the birth of Grunge music that changed the music industry forever was just awesome! Alice in chains, Soundgarden, PearlJam,NIrvana, MotherLoveBone, and a few others im probably skippin over,(lots of drugs do that lol) wer all great live! Remember that history repeats itself, so lets see what trend comes next in "rock" "alternative"music.........2011 and still waiting.......
@zleo1074z couldnt agree more. think that the next big trend wont come under our circumstances. Its going to come when kids realize "hey man what the radio, tv and internet is feeding me is shit, im gonna start my own band". It almost happened with garage rock revival (Stripes, Hives, etc.) but didnt because they didnt have anything meaningful to say, which grunge had in a way.
me and this friends at "Church of the Reformed Druids" were going to form a band, anyways, he was doing security for the van Halen FUCK tour 1 night, and AIC were the opening act and still hadn't broken big...
so they were chatting and he offered to show them around the town(edmo -SNFU and SKINNY PUPPY's home),
they went out all night had a great time and were super nice super cool people...
I heard later that Layne had all the sex torture dungeons in North Am mapped out hahahaha
Layne Staley is not only an inspiration to all young rock and roll singers all over the world, but also to everyone who has found a conflicting interest that deters from their God-Given talent(s). God Bless Layne Staley. May he Rest in Peace!
Layne Staley is not only an inspiration to all young rock and roll singers all over the world, but also to everyone who has found a conflicting interest that deters from their God-Given talent(s). God Bless Layne Staley. May he Rest in Peace!
This is the real thing - Layne, I think, did fulfill his role here and left a powerful legacy and influence...this is an example of that rare total artist who's voice is raw power and emotion and control (when he was probably out of control), but you know he was an intellectual with a sense of humour, sensitive to what was happening around him and tough as f'n nails for sure. now rest - you made a difference - and we'll keep listenin brother.
Oh, just had to say,"I'd advise U 2 shut UP if U R going 2 criticize this band!" Obviously U don't qualify as a musician yourself, so UR 1 of the mindless millions paying 4 total crap!Dingleberry!!!!

A&C was badass back in the day I remember seeing them on the Clash of the Titans tour when they opened for slayer, megadeth and anthrax and Box was their only single at the time. I remember we all walked away impressed just like seeing Motley Crue and Metallica with Ozzy and knowing both were going to be awesome not really hearing them before the show.
@plankboi its a good question, maybe jerry needed to change effects and shit for the next song? i dont really know though it doesnt make sense to me either
One of Marilyn Manson's influences has got to be Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley's vocaling styles. If you listen to Marlyn Manson's songs closely, you can kind of tell that his vocal range is equivalent to Jerry's and Layne's.
His book wasn't titled "A look into the heart and soul of an incredible musician" for no reason. Despite his book receiving so many bad feedbacks, I do believe the author was trying to show some sort of respect to Staley, though his own privacy he craved more than he craved Heroin.
@jackman94 - I agree. If a band wants to play on Letterman, that little twit Paul Schaeffer insists his band play some role in the performance. Crock of shit.
On another note, this video would make the ultimate anti-drug commercial when contrasted with the youtube video 'Alice in Chains - Sunshine (Seattle, WA 1990)'. Every live AIC video in 1996 has Layne just standing, looking sickly, like the mic stand is holding him up. Sad. RIP Layne Staley, AIC is not the same without you.
down Down DOWN YOU'RE ROLLIN !! ! !! I never heard his voice sound so good live before,,,,,, His passing saddened + pissed me off way more than Hoon's, Hutchen's, and Cobains.......They all had talent,,,,,, But Layne was blessed with the coolest Orginal Voice...... .. R.I.P. Layne
@pappas99@BryanSMeyer I'm pretty sure Layne was just kind of pissed at how Paul Shaffer and co. tried to play along with them as if to undermine the simplicity of the chord progression. Hence, why they went into "We Die Young," with the first line being "watch where you spit!"
@paulph12002 i seen him shake his head like he werent empressed with himself even on die young. he prob just having a bad day with his voice or motivation.
lmao i love letterman. He may be a dork but atleast he shows respect to one of the greatest bands of all time. Unlike Leno who is a stuck up clueless cheeseball. Look up a perfect circle 3 leos live on leno and see what im talking about
How is scott weiland still alive and layne is not? i think scott did more heroin then he. If only layne was still alive too, it would be awesome. layne staley + stone temple pilots show.
I saw this back then. I stayed up just to watch it. I feel in love with Layne more but sadly he would pass onto a better world than this years later. RIP Layne
AIC without Layne,it's not the same.No one can replicate Layne vocally and especially personality. Just like Kurt Cobain, minus him ,success is not a guarantee.
Layne was in his peak, the band sounded so tight... AIC a legend & they still r ... that heavy doom, an infamous GRUNGE band then & for many years to follow!
AIC deeply influenced me in more ways then simple words culd relay... Layne will always b w/ AIC in spirit, he will live on as well as AIC's music forever, & Layne wuld want it that way!
Layne was the only singer who's amazing talent was able to rock the shit out of our heads, just by standing there singing (probably at 10% of his best) ... depressed and fucked up from the inside ... in a lot of pain ... barely moving ... this is real fukin music!
Stop bitching about the New Alice In Chains already. One comment I hear "Layne would not like Alice in Chains being around without him", and then another comment I read" Layne would be proud"!
Nobody knows what Layne would think or say about them continuing... BUT HIMSELF!! Quit acting like he was your fucking neighbor or something even though we all wish he was (Including me). Come on I know his lyrics and awesome singing make you feel like you actually knew him, but we all don't. RIP Layne
@RamonesSkater4life You should probably start sucking on trucks. Just go stand in the road with your mouth open and wait for a truck to suck. Don't worry; it is not bad for your health.
@RamonesSkater4life Layne learnt to sing like that when he didn't use drugs (or just a few), and he died because of overuse. Using drugs is not the way to have good music nor to have good artists leaving.
And Just 3 weeks after this performance Demri Parrott would die and it would kill off whatever was left off Layne... So sad, RIP both them x

Hello there fellow metalheads.
Instead of a Metal rebellion i propose a new plan.
1. Instead of bashin other metal artists, we need to unite. We cant fight against pop music if we arent even together.
2. Watch more and other metal videos to get it to the top of the youtube vid list
3. Instead of bashing pop, promote metal with logical reasons, not just "METAL RULES!!"
If you like this idea, thumbs it up JUST so people can see it, and also spread it around if you like this idea

RIP Layne

Today's generation of musicians might as well start doing drugs. They'll probably improve because they are that fucking terrible.

I want THIS VERSION to be downloadable for Rock Band 3, seriously, I'd play this song all day.
